If you don't include those, then Mario doesn't have a "fail". Simple as that. We're not exactly talking about Sonic the Hedgehog or Crash Bandicoot here.

The problem is that he, indeed, deosn't have a "fail" in the main series ;)

Now Sonic, that's a different matter :P
