McDonald's Boss Claims Video Games Cause Obesity

lol. That is...just amazing. Ofcourse the had of one of the biggest food chains in America is going to blame games instead of food, but realy. How can you take the blame off of greasy foods and blame the Wii, one of the most interective game machines ever?

Actually it was the UK McDonald's CEO who said that.

All I have to say about this story: The definition of irony is...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... *scratches chin*

Isn't that some form of... oh what is it called again... oh yeah! that's right! IRONY!

I really don't see anything in this world that could be more ironic than the CEO of the fast-food chain that pumps people so full of calories and fats they die from heart disease claiming that video games cause obesity. Has he ever heard of Dance Dance Revolution?

Sitting around putting puzzles together for four hours a day can make you fat if you're not doing something active. Got to love people who always put blame on video games. And here's this guy who works for a corporation that serves food so bad for you that if you eat it day and night, you'll die before a month passes (see Supersize Me). Ugh..

That's quite a revelation: I thought obesity was caused by depleted uranium!

Seriously now: McDevil's dead-rats-burgers are a big cause of obesity, like all junk food. Yet most games (excluding Dance Dance or some Wii games) require long times of motorial inactivity, resulting in low calories consumption. The same can be said for reading, playing piano and all those things you do in a sitting position ('xcept the bathroom ones).

I think you kind of summed it up here. I would never say that there's 1 thing that causes obesity. It's about moderation I think. Is gaming bad for you? No. But it could be if that's all you do with your life. Is McD's good for you? No, but it's not going to kill you if you only have it every now and then, and balance it and similar foods with healthy food and healthy activity. Maybe it was making a stab at BK. Buy your crappy food here, and a game to sit and play while you're eating it.

Does he realize a big part of his customers are enjoying video games and by attacking video games, he alienate his own customers? Afterall, if someone play video games and want to eat fast...what is he likely to do?

Guess this guy didn't think before talking.

lawl McDonald's purposely puts additives in its food and other toxins to make people physically addicted to it. I know it sounds bizzare and a conspiracy theory but its 100% true. Just read fast food nation or watch super size me. And sadly they aren't the only fast food corporation that does it..

Hmm, I guess the bastard is trying to shift the blame off their chemically pumped garbage onto video games.

Wait, does this mean that Monopoly causes Cancer?

I'm wondering if he thinks anyone is going to take him seriously. Then again, there's still general ignorance. If everyone would watch fast food nation and supersize me, they'd just burn down every mc donalds, burger king ect. they could find.

People need to stop blaming one single thing for big problems like this. That said, I wonder why the lack of active parents who play with their kids is never a factor in child obesity, yet video games are...

actually neither cause obesity. its a combination of the two in excess, which is caused by the CHOICES of the person.. too much food and not enough physical activity make for weight gain.

videogames do in fact cause obesity though it is indirectly. People who participate in videogames are less likely to excersize or go outside in their spare time. They are more likely to eat while not doing anything to burn the calories and are more likely to eat junk food.

How many gamers sit around and eat rice cakes and salads? Its an indirect psychological coincidence. Its not the videogames causing the obesity just the usual habits of those who would usually be classified as a game player.

Videogames however are no more responsible than Film and Television and less responsible than the "heart attack in a box" fast food sources. When they begin to make a concerted effort to lower the fat content and make their meals more healthy they will have a place to talk ill about an entertainment medium. Untill then they can shut it.

What ever happened to being responsible for your own actions?

I am not calling out anyone who is heavy. I mean, for those of us living in first world nations ( if you have the money and time to game you are well off) we are living in a world our bodys have not adapted to yet. But come on, it is nobodys fault but our own for things like this.

I understand what your're saying but in many cases Mcdonald's can cause obesity alone. if someone were to eat there weekly every year they would be fatter and unhealthier than the person who wouldn't have. Even if they did a lot of physical activity they would be much fatter and un healthier than need be.

People just don't know about the man made chemicals being added to the food. So they cannot make the responsible decision not to eat there. Like I said the info is there, it just requires a tiny bit of researching.
