I didn't get into the series until Super Metroid, but it seemed like forever (8 years!) waiting on the next Metroid. We've been pretty fortunate with several releases in the last 8 years. The Nintendo 64 and Virtual Boy are the only Nintendo systems without a Metroid. It's makes one wonder just what a Metroid could have been like on the Nintendo 64. I'm sure it would have been named Metroid 64 and maybe Rare would have taken a stab at a sequel at the time. Of course, Donkey Kong and Star Fox have been the only Nintendo series that Rare has changed. Despite the changes with each title, I like them all, but Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are my top picks. As for why, well, Super Metroid was the first one I played and it was just as exciting as playing Zelda: Link to the Past. Metroid Prime had that same great fealing that Super Mario 64 brought to Nintendo 64 (bringing a game we all know, yet, making it a totally new experience). As for Metroid: Other M. It's a great game that I just recently beat and it's really close to being up there with Prime. The only thing this game lacks is that it's too short, but still fun to play again.

NES- Metroid

Gameboy- Metroid II

SNES- Super Metroid

Gameboy Advance- Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission

Gamecube- Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime II: Echoes

DS: Metroid Prime: Hunters

Wii- Metroid Prime III: Corruption, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid: Other M

The Prime series was meant to be on the N64 but then they just scraped it cus the the technology at the time wasn't enough for the kind of game that they wanted to make.

It's probably good the Gamecube got it instead. I don't think that type of game would have worked on the N64. If it was like Zelda, then it would have worked.

I got into Metroid for the first time the other week with Super Metroid myself and absolutely love it. Funny because I've had MP2 for a year and a half and haven't really touched it = /

Metroid is a great series. The only games I were not crazy about were Metroid II and Metroid Prime Hunters.

I'm a huge, huge fan of the Metroid Prime trilogy.

By contrast, I've never been able to get into 2-D Metroid.

Metroid is a great series. I was never able to get too into the original for NES or the sequel on the original Game Boy. But I fell in love with Super Metroid. And I've loved every subsequent release on GBA & Gamecube. Metroid: Other M is a reason why I want a Wii now. I didn't when the Wii was released, but between Metroid: Other M, New Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country Returns, and the 2 Super Mario Galaxies, I'm wanting one now.

I think you'll love it. I loved Super Metroid and Metroid: Other M kind of brought those memories back with the enemies and bosses. Minus the final boss, Metroid: Other M is not nearly as challenging as the Primes. However, I'm not one of those finish-in-a-couple-of-days player, so, it was well balanced for players like I. In fact, I'm usually one of those people who make it until the last boss and don't finish because the boss is near impossible. Games that come to mind- Metroid Fushion, Metroid Prime, DKC, Zelda: OoT, and Donkey Kong 64. It stinks, I know. However, I have finished Super Metroid, Super Mario 64 (I don't think I could now as I tried to revisit it; I must have had very good skills back in the 90s), Banjo-Kazooie, DKC 2 & 3, Super Castlevania 4, Super Mario World, Super Mario 3, and Legend of Zelda: LttP.

Metal_Mario99, have you tried Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion on GBA? I can understand the first two because those games (while good for their time) seem to move way too slow. I love the Prime series too. Those games seem to never wear their welcome.

I actually haven't played MP2 much since 2006. I play the multi-player all the time though. I'm one of the few who have all three as well as the Wii Trilogy game (only b/c I found it for under $40 though and it just looks too cool to pass up.

I love that you said that, I tried for about a month to beat that last boss, but never could do it. After playing Other M, I think I'm gonna give Fusion another go soon. Maybe this time I'll actually be able to finish it. :P

I think my GBA SP is glad I took a break from that game as I was looking for walls and floors to toss the system at after being humiliated time and time again. But how could I stay mad at the GBA.....lol

Yeah, I downloaded Super Metroid for the VC. Just didn't have much fun with it, though.

I'm actually playing through the Metroid Prime trilogy again right now.

I love the Metroid series. Though I am ashamed to say I still have not played Super Metroid... We bought it on the Wii, it's been on the Wii unplayed for a while, but we had to replace the wii and we lost the games we had saved it. we are going to rebuy it soon though, then I will play immediatley. Other M really makes me wanna play super metroid, lol.

But ya know why we replaced it? Our old Wii will not play Metroid Prime Trilogy...

2-d sidecroller metroid games are the way to go man...I like prime as a FPS but its nowhere near as good as the 2-d sidescrollers

Only metroid game I haven't tried is Metroid II on GB.

I enjoyed Metroid and Super Metroid more than the rest, especially Super Metroid. I couldn't tolerate the Metroid Prime series because it wasn't like the Metroid I knew, that'd be like turning Final Fantasy into a rail-shooter. Super Metroid was definitely the best to me though, because it was so in-depth, there was so much to do and find, and it was just an overall epic game. The first Metroid was also awesome, despite the fact it was probably the easiest game to get lost in. Metroid II felt weird to me, didn't care much for it.

I've only played Super Metroid and the very first one on NES. I thought the NES game was good but honestly...it really could have used a map.

For me Metroid Prime 2 is the best one. It had the perfect gameplay with Dark Aether and Aether loved it the bosses where the most awsome. Metroid Prime 3 made me a little dissapointed cause everything is to easy even on the hardest mode Dark samus battle was not that epic as I fought it would be. But the game is still awsome:) Metroid Prime 1 is great but not as great as Prime 2.

I've beaten all the Metroid titles except Metroid, Fusion, and Return of Samus. 7/10 complete. Metroid Prime > Super Metroid > Echoes > Corruption > Other M > Hunters...and then zero mission somewhere after super metroid, before other M.

I agree that Prime 2 is the best in the Prime series! I wouldn't say it's the best Metroid game though. Super Metroid still holds the throne for me :P

The Metroid Series is brilliant, to date I've played Super Metroid, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid: Other M. I love them all outside of Hunters, which I just couldn't get into much. Now, all I have to do is get the original Metroid and Metroid II. The latter is very hard to find outside of Ebay, but the GB Virtual Console on the upcoming 3DS should, hopefully, make it available.
