MGS4 June 12th (MGS4 PS3 Bundle, GOW PSP Bundle Too!)

This picture is from the newest Famitsu apparently... I couldn't be more excited if this is true. I will have had plenty of time to enjoy GTA4 before MGS4 hits. I will update when I find out more.

The Playstation Blog has confirmed it, as well as a $500 MGS4 PS3 bundle that includes an 80GB PS3 and a DS3.

The Dual Shock 3 also returns on April 15th for $55.

Also announced is a God of War PSP bundle which includes the game, a PSP, Superbad on UMD, and a voucher to download Syphon Filter Combat Ops for free.

From what I understand the game is getting a worldwide release when it comes out.rragnaar

Outside the US, the 360 does poorly, and even in JAN the PS3 outsold the 360 and nearly the cheaper Wii.

Destination Playstation, which is a conference Sony holds for retailers, is going on now, and the early word leaking out of it, from 3 different posters over at NeoGAF is that the game is coming out June 12th, and that there will be a PS3 SKU with MGS4 bundled with it. There are also leaks that there will be a red PSP God or War bundle. Sounds sweet!

Word from Destination PlayStation, a retailers-only conference for all things PlayStation related, is that Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to the PlayStation 3 on June 12, 2008. According to sources there now, the release of Kojima Productions action-stealth game will arrive on a Thursday, oddly enough. Even more interesting is that we're hearing word that Sony will be offering a hardware bundle that features MGS4, an 80GB PlayStation 3 and a DualShock 3 packed-in.

We're checking with Konami for official word on the matter and will update with additional information soon.Kotaku

Oh hells ya! Now that's a bundle that I want. I definately want the DualShock 3 controller, 80 GB is a decent enough size, and Metal Gear Solid 4 is a no brainer. It looks like I'll finally be getting myself a PS3 in June.

Yikes! I feel for people who already have a PS3 and will have to pay almost the price of a full game to have rumble...

I'd say it's real. The date jives up in that it misses hitting too close to GTA.

However, a bundle doesn't make a lot of sense. When you look at Sony's bundles historically, they've been borderline games that didn't light the world on fire. Bundling MGS4 with a system seems like an odd move, because there is a contingent of people that would buy the system for it regardless. There's also the issue of price, and seeing as the last 80 gig sku was $499, I'm expecting the same unit with MGS4 and a Dual Shock 3 to hit the dreaded $599 pricepoint again, which is a bad move on Sony's part no matter how big the game is. If anything, the game should be bundled with the 40 gig for $439 or even a window of time price of $399 just to move systems. I don't think Metal Gear will move a $599 sku (no game will), I think most will end up buying a 40 and a copy of the game, and if they were going to do a bundle, that would be the way to go.

Shooters are the new hotness, and having a well-rounded shooter library is integral for Sony to take Microsoft head on. I think it's even smarter seeing as they'll be going up against Gears 2. I don't think (based on the first game) that Resistance 2 will be able to steal Gears' thunder on its own, but when you pair it up with Killzone and Socom, it takes some of the sting out.

And the price for that controller is a rip, but they're all expensive. I forget what a Wii remote with a nunchuk runs, but I think I paid pretty close to that.

$60 for the Wiimote with Nunchuk ($40 for the Wiimote + $20 for the Nunchuk), unless you find them bundled together in some special package.

Cool, same day as GT5 Prologue. Going to be an expensive day for me :P

If they space those games one each month, they should be okay. They need those games to compete with Gears.

It will not be $600, the controller has no impact on the price, all consoles come with a controller. The last 80G as $500 at most it will be $550 but I highly doubt that. The price of the PS3 has gone down I expect $500 max or $450 for the bundle.

They are going to try to make this deal look great to all non PS3 owners. They know MGS4 is the game that will sell the console, so this makes it so much easier for those people to get it all in one package.

I hope this SKU stays around for a while, MGS4 deserves the sales. I have no clue how this bundle thing works, especially with third party games but does Sony buy out a ton of MGS4 games, I assume Konami gets the same cut they would if they sold it at retail.

It'll add something to the price, otherwise they'd already be sticking them in the box for every sku. I could see possibly $550, but I'm still going with $599.

I also just thought of something. Metal Gear is going to be a Mature-rated game, has an M-rated game ever been bundled with a system before? That gives me pause in thinking this whole bundling rumor is real.

i disagree, I think Sony needs ot do what they did with PS2 in terms of variety. If all you have is shooters, you can't attract a wide range of people.

Anyway, at the very least, im thrilled MGS is coming out in June and not delayed. I was really hoping for Killzone in the summer as well, so that a bummer.

I don't think they'll drop the price that much. Disregarding any extra costs of the DS3 controller may or may not contribute then that is almost equivalent to a price cut of close to $150. That would be awesome if they actually did that though but I highly doubt it. The cheapest I expect it to be is the current $499 because I think the inclusion of the game and the new controller would basically be somewhat of a pricecut anyway.

I wouldn't mind picking the bundle up at that price though. Of course any cheaper and it's gravy.

I'm predicting we will see a $50 price drop on April 15th. All the pieces are there for it to make sense. The format war is over. Rumble comes back that day. People should be getting their tax returns, and GTA comes out in a matter of weeks. I'm guessing we will have a $350 PS3 on April 15th and a $450 MGS4 bundle on June 12th. I will wager $1 billion dollars of fake money that I'm right. :P

Yeah that's what I was fully expecting which is something I'm comfortable with. Metal Gear Solid 4 is definately a game I would have picked up on it's own so with that included along with a much better controller and a fairly roomy 80 GB of HDD space I consider this to be a pretty good deal.
