Microsoft 180: Xbox One will NOT have ANY Used Games or Online DRM.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

• An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

• Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.Don Matrick

Multiple sources inform me Microsoft will announce what amounts to a complete reversal on its DRM policies for Xbox One today.

What does this mean?

• No more always online requirement
• The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
• All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
• Authentication is no longer necessary
• An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
• All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
• No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
• Region locks have been dropped

They willl still have a weaker console that retails for an extra $100, but it's a step in the right direction.They have the games so this might just get me to buy it when it drops to $400.

Amazing news. Good to see them thinking smartly for a change. The announcement is supposed to happen sometime today, so we'll know soon enough if its true.

so what about using the cloud to beef up performance? Is that just gone?

Anyway, news like this, if it's true, is why I preordered an X1. Figured they might have a change of heart at some point and if they didn't, I could always cancel that preorder.

I'm glad to hear this, if true of course. This upcoming gen of consoles I'll probably lean towards getting a PS4 first (Buy it in 2 years) and probably get the Xbox One 5 or 6 years from now.

I still have to catch up on the PS3 and all the great exclusives that have come out since I had to get rid of my PS3(I still shed tears thinking about it).

I'll believe it when it's confirmed. Even if there's a reversal, there's always that "blablba subject to change at any time" fine print. 

If this is true, it be great. Console competition is always beneficial for us, the gamers..

UIF dies a little inside.

I may consider it now, I would like KI and Halo5.  However, this doesn't change the fact these guys in charge are a bunch of fckng a$$holes. 

It's good for the fans of the Xbox if this is in fact valid, but I don't know if this will be enough to bring back some of those fans who decided to go in another direction as far as getting a next gen console.  Honestly, it should have never gotten to this point in the first place.  I can only imagine that there's gonna be a number of people at Microsoft who're gonna be shitcanned before this this is all said and done.

They still have a weaker console that costs an extra $100 so I still wont buy buying it Day 1, but this is a step in the right direction.

It is kinda sad that it took Sony's domination and loads of angry people for them to reconsider that filthy plan.

I folks truely believe that the power of the consumer is null, this is an example of consumers making strides with their potential dollar.

I have a feeling MS thought Sony was going to apply similar DRM and also sell the console for $500 and when they dropped the bombs MS was caught flat footed, now they have no choice but to "180" their policies.  The preorder numbers musta been such a landslide in Sonys favour, that was the tipping point.

This is an excellent piece of news, just like someone above mentioned the power of consumers shouldn't be underestimated.
