I would be ps'ed because there are some franchises i would rather play on ps3 than xbox..i have nothing against xbox infact i am saving to get a halo 3 edition xbox but still even if it did came on 360 i would go buy the ps3 version instead of the 360 version. That makes no sense. MGS4 being ported to the Xbox does not stop you from playing the PS3 version, same goes for DMC4.

Whenever a gaming developer attempts to bill their new game as a _________-killer they are always off to a bad start (see Killzone). Why not keep your mouth shut if you've got nothing to show, and then later try marketing the game on it's own merits.Solid_Cobra

In their defense (as well as in defense of Killzone's devs), its usually the MEDIA that makes such comparisons and not the devs. Or, in some cases, marketing or execs that know no other way to describe something than such comparitive expressions.

I own a PS3 and an XB360 and I don't accept it. If the PS3 continues to sell poorly then Konami might opt to put MGS4 on the XB360. They are in the business of making money and by not putting MGS4 on the XB360 they are potentially losing millions.

I don't think so. It's a possibility but until either company confirms such an agreement it's pure speculation on your part. Also, I don't think Sony is in a position to doll out large heaps of cash given the current financial straits their videogames division is in.

As for the popularity of MGS, go look up the sales numbers for MGS3. It did significantly worse than MGS2, selling about half the number of copies worldwide. The franchise is not as popular as it once was and it will not increase the sales of the PS3 by the types of margins you are predicting. Truth be told, Microsoft's GTAIV deal for episodic content is probably going to generate greater consumer interest than MGS4 ever will. At therate PS3 console and software is selling, I'd be shocked ifMGS4 could generateanywhere close to the sales Halo 3 made on its first three days of release.

Calm down. Just because Grammaton and EasyB have a lower opinion of the commerical prospects of MGS4 than you do doesn't mean they aren't hardcore gamers.

The X360 has a higher installed base and a higher attach ratio, so the notion that a port of MGS to the X360 is in Konami's interest is nothing more than common sense.

Halo can be played by anyone, on easy difficulty one can simply charge in while holding the triggers down and make their way thru the game. Halo's appeal also relies heavily on its MP component, excluding online where most players are hardcore anyways, a good percentage of Halo MP is played split screen where the difficulty only depends on the skill of the other players. Traditional Mario titles are only SP games but they are easy to pick up and very forgiving. Again, anyone can play it.

So while I agree that a franchise can gain popularity just as easily as it can lose it, the MGS series is not one that I can see gaining it. I like to consider myself a hardcore gamer but even I am intimidated by what I played of MGS2 and can't imagine using all the game mechanics they've inevitably added as the serieshas progressed. MGS is also a very plot driven game and I feel that unless one has play the previous MGS titles, jumping into Patriots won't be a pleasant experiance.

My credentials aside, I've been playing Metal Gear since the NES original and I consider it one of the finest series within the medium. I also agree with Carnage that MGS4 could sell better than MGS3 assuming certain factors materialize. However, given the poor sales of the PS3 thus far, I think you might be setting yourself up for a significant letdown if you assume MGS4 is going to be the great white hope for Sony's console.

Personally, I hope it goes to the XB360 so that more people can experience the quality of this series, much in the way I was happy to see DMC4 land on the XB360. Your own rationale seems rooted in console loyalty rather than what best serves the developers and publishers of MGS4. Like Carnage already pointed out, MGS4 on the XB360 means more money, period.

I'm not sure if anyone read or heard of this, but Kotaku wrote about a rumor, apparently someone who works closely with Konami saysthat Konami is planning to bring MGS4 to the 360 after a year of MGS4's release on the PS3.

I believe this could happen, kind of like how MGS2 came to the XBOX a year after it's release. But we'll see. It would be the dumbest and stupidist move on Konami and Kojima's part not to bring MGS4 to the 360. It would also showcase the bigggest arrogance if Kojima thinks MGS4 is going to cause a major spark of PS3 sales...same thing goes with Square-Enix and FFXIII. They should realize by now that the western market is where the profit is with these games.

Agreed. MGS might not be the name it was, but its definitely still one of the biggest in the industry. I actually think that part of the reason MGS3 didn't do as well is because it hit stores the same christmas as both GTA:SA and Halo 2. When MGS2 hit stores it pretty much had the spotlight to itself, Halo was there but it was a brand new franchise on a brand new console.

If GTA drops early in the year, then I think that puts MGS4 in a similar position as MGS2... so itll be interesting to see how things play out.

This coming holiday season looks to be as jam-packed as the last. MGS may have to play with all the other big boys this year.

I'm not trying to say appealing to hardcore gamers is a bad thing. I love the depth and difficulty generally associated with "hardcore" games. It's just that being a game of such depth and difficulty can be intimidating to many. Intimidation is a lousy trait to carry if a game is trying to reach a broader audience.

Except for Grand Turismo, I'm not seeing anything in the 2nd half that carries the same weight as the MGS name. I see plenty of games that may match or exceed its quality, but purely in terms of hype I don't see anything that will match it right now.

After seeing MSG4 at CES I want it that much more. I will not buy a PS3 for 1 game. So if Konami makes the mistake of keeping it PS3 only that will be more so there loss then mine.JAMullins

One game isn't going to put me over the edge and at this time I am currently getting my fix on games that are coming out on the 360, with Splinter Cell being one of the games that is filling in the MGS4 gap, much like GME said. With that said though, Splinter Cell is no MGS. I think it has to do with more of my emotional attachment of the series growing up than it does anything else and to have them bring it over to the 360 would be a very welcome edition in which I would have no hesitation is scooping up.

I don't currently own a 360 but I plan to purchase one in the future. I am a PC gamer. I have Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Bioshock, Crysis, plus a few others to hold me over for quiet a while. I was actually going to get a 360 for Christmas but then realized that I wouldnt have time to play with all the PC gaming that I am doing. I bought my wife a WII and I play it from time to time. But the point is people buy systems for games. The only thing that turns me towards the PS3 is MGS and free online play. But as far as games, you can get everything on the 360 plus more. GTA4, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5 all ps3 and 360 future games...

I am going agaisnt what I have been saying all along. I will buy a PS3 after MSG4 releases...

If you ask me MGS's gameplay broken for a game that calls itself tactical stealth compared to games like splinter cell or even theif. And I don't get why people say the story is good, it's just non sense about cyborgs and fox die and and and....yeah, and no the message the story is trying to convey does not justify the quality of the story.
