This system doesn't get nearly enough love. It was the powerhouse of consoles last-generation. It had the best version multiplatform games in most cases. It had XBox Live when Gamecube and PS2 were struggling with the online thing. And the hard-drive was great for having tons of room for game saves rather than managing miniscule memory cards, and it was great for in-game personal soundtracks.

But more importantly is the library. I hear it talked about around here like it had the library of the Jaguar or 32X or something. It has a huge a library of great exclusives and the best multiplatform versions of games. And it has a great selection of action-RPGs, which is great for me personally. My favorite genre:

Great Exclusives:

  • Arx Fatalix
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • The Chronicles of Riddick, Escape From Butcher Bay
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dead or Alive 3
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition
  • Fable: The Lost Chapters
  • Far Cry: Instincts
  • Halo 1 & 2
  • House of the Dead 3 (exclusive until the Wii got a port a few years later)
  • Jade Empire
  • MechAssault 1 & 2
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Panzer Dragoon: Orta
  • Project Gotham Racing
  • Shenmue II (exclusive in the U.S.)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
  • Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
  • Tecmo Arcade Classics Collection
  • WWE Raw 1 & 2

Great Multiplatform Games:

  • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2
  • Capcom Classics Collection
  • Darkwatch
  • Destroy All Humans 1 & 2
  • Grand Theft Auto Series
  • The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
  • Mortal Kombat Series
  • Mega Man Anniversary Collection
  • Need For Speed Series
  • Red Faction II
  • Sonic Mega Collection Plus
  • Soul Calibur II
  • Spider-Man 1 & 2
  • Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2
  • Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection
  • Tony Hawk's Underground 1 & 2
  • X-Men: Legends 1 & 2

During last gen, the PS2 stole the show for me, and when I wasn't playing that I was usually playing my Gamecube. However, especially over the past year, I've come to really appreciate what the XBOX has to offer. Over the past 3-months, my XBOX collection has probably grown the most by far, mostly because I keep on finding great games for it in various places, or online when researching the console. In fact, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis is at the top of my XMAS list this year. I know it was a multi-plat, but it was by far the superior version in comparison to the PS2 version (PC version was best however). Definitely a must own for any last-gen enthusiests :)

I realise I bang on about it, but Amped 2 is the king of extreme sports games that never gets any love. Sooo much better than any of the SSX games, and it was an original Xbox exclusive. Its a shame that extreme sports games have been forgotten about during this gen. Also: JSRF Halo 1 and 2 Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2 Quantum redshift Best version of Rayman 3 and Burnout 3 Crimson Skies: HRtR Midtown Madness 3

IDK. It was a pretty good system, but I aways felt the PS2 and Gamecube offered exclusives that the Xbox simply couldn't fvck with, exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Final Fantasy X, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, etc. I had all three systems last gen, but the only games I would have missed if had to give up the Xbox was Halo 2, Shenmue 2, and Ninja Gaiden. On the other hand, I would miss sooooo many games if I had to give up the PS2 or the Gamecube.

If you don't like wrestling games. If you do, then they were fantastic games. Full roster, plenty of match types, and good controls. It was especially awesome to see their true entrances complete with the actual video footage on the TitanTron behind them playing like you actually see in Raw. In a wrestling game, presentation is a big deal, and that was sweet to see when you first saw it.

I'm curious to see what else you think is bad in that exclusives list. Because I did only post ones I enjoyed. I left out ones like Sneak King and Mad Dash because they really were mediocre games.

What was the point in having the Xbox if you had a gaming PC? ;)

j/k, but it's true that there were a lot of Xbox ports on the PC and a lot of PC ports on the Xbox.

Which is not a coincidence since the first Xbox was basically a PC in a console case (a bit low on RAM tho, but still the most powerful console of it's era).

But it's also true that it got some exclusives that didn't make it over to PC and that it had the best console multiplats and best online.

And the season mode in WWE Raw 2 was pretty fun, and they should have built on that for future games, you could basically do anything from intimidating, calling out, setting traps, etc.

lol again you. before ever commenting again, just look at the wrestlinggames in my collection  I'm an absolute expert on the genre and the raw games sucked. even smackdown was better and day of reckoning was a lot better. not to mention the n64 wrestlinggames or fire pro.

by reading your post you know just as much about wrestlinggames as about anything else... real entrances with titantron videos? they've bene in since the 32bit era. not to mention every smackdown game had it as well and day of reckoning

Glad to see that there are other original Xbox fans besides me. I still prefer the original Xbox since the original XBox games are still fun to play such as Far Cry, Fable, Jade Empire, Crimson Skies, Doom 3, The Suffering and others.

I was under the impression the XBOX was the second best-selling system of the last generation. Way below the PS2, but outselling the GC and DC.

The system got lots of love from how I see it.

unless you go to Japan , then its hardly noticable. I think Microsoft bundled DOA3 with the Xbox in Japan , clever choice, but sadly it didn't help them.

Even more remarkble it outsold the other systems without Japanese support. Specially since Japanese games/systems dominated last generation.

Just goes to show the system got more than it share of love. I don't know what makes people think otherwise. Maybe because you don't see it referenced in gaming forums often? But that doesn't really account for reality.

The XBOX also had insane homebrewing, which also increased its popularity.

The Original Xbox is one of my favorite consoles of all time. The first System to include a HDD is what sold me on the idea of the first Xbox. I have lost many memory cards or loan them to a friend only to have them lost. So way back at the turn of the century Xbox having on broad storage with a then massive 8GB HDD was a great advancement.

I had 102 games for the original Xbox during my first time having the Xbox. But I sold my Xbox and Games. (Life happened and I needed the money) So I bought another Xbox currently I have "just" 34 original Xbox games. This is a great time for collecting for the Original Xbox since the games are easily found and are inexpensive. I snapped up a still in wrapper "new" Taito Legends for Xbox for $5.00

Lucky finding Xbox games is easy for me as I live in a city with plenty of Used Videogame shops. MicroSoft killed off the original Xbox way too soon. 4 years which is a very short lifespan. I understand that MS was in a rush to beat PS3 to market with Xbox 360.

The original Xbox could have at least gotten a redesign. A Xbox slimline for the original would have been excellent. The original Xbox does have the best Mulitplatform games over its 6th Generation counterparts Gamecube and PS2. With a library of about 789 Games released between 2001-2007 Their is a lot of games to discover.

The Xbox is overlooked but it is a great console. So even though Xbox 360/(S) can play original Xbox games. If you can find an original Xbox then buy it since it is basically a Pentium 3 computer. So if you are tech savvy you can do wonders with this Console.

That is true. I still see alot of old original Xbox games at pawn shops. Even at this popular multi chainer pawn shop that I go to every once in awhile every time. I see alot of old original Xbox games real cheap. Even the original Xbox console in the glass cabinet for just 20 bucks.

yes I know XBox Live for the original Xbox might be dead so people claim but it wouldnt hurt to just try to check it out to see if anyone else also tries to pop up online on the original Xbox's XBox Live.

the grand theft auto games that are ported over for the Xbox do they look better graphically or about the same as their Playstation 2 counterparts?

For what it's worth, I don't think I've seen an inordinate amount of Xbox bashing on the legacy platforms forum here--or any at all actually. Great system. I just got mine a few months ago and the only game I've played through all the way is Fable, which is only decent by current standards but I can see how it'd be mind-blowing at the time. That said, I feel drawn to it more than any other system that generation. The graphics are great and more importantly I absolutely love the S-style controllers. (I want to love the giant duke controllers but just can't get into them. I really like big controllers in general.) Next game I play on it will probably be Crimson Skies, which is fun as hell based on what I played so far. It is totally going to be the system I buy multiplats for in the future even if they are more expensive--and that says a lot because I am a cheap bastard!

Same here. If any system got the most flak that gen, it was the GameCube (the Dreamcast sold even less, but not even THAT was bashed to the mass extent the GameCube was).

this one came out long before raw on the xbox. also who the hell cares about titantrons being shown in a wrestlinggame. I rather have good gameplay, which the raw games lacked. ever read any reviews of the games? nobody likes them, not even back in the day. and again the looks? yes it looked really good, but no wonder, it was exclusively on xbox, yet it played like crap. I rather have good gameplay again.

the roster of wwe raw games were much smaller and worse than the smackdown games that came out at the same time, or even the n64 and psx games before them

http://www.giantbomb.com/wwe-raw-2/61-13445/characters/

wwe raw 2 roster

wwe smackdown shut your mouth roster, both games came out around same time

http://www.gamespot.com/news/wwe-smackdown-shut-your-mouth-roster-revealed-2896097

I rest my case

I was under the impression the XBOX was the second best-selling system of the last generation. Way below the PS2, but outselling the GC and DC.

The system got lots of love from how I see it.

Emerald_Warrior

I meant around here. I see people bashing the console on a regular basis.

the system sold best in the US if I recall , so if anything, its reputation should be best there. it did decently enough in Europe though.

Here as in Gamestop Legacy Platforms. I constantly hear things like "there's only a couple games worth playing on it". "All the good games are on PS2" or "If there are games on PC, then why should it matter."

lol again you. before ever commenting again, just look at the wrestlinggames in my collection  I'm an absolute expert on the genre and the raw games sucked. even smackdown was better and day of reckoning was a lot better. not to mention the n64 wrestlinggames or fire pro.

by reading your post you know just as much about wrestlinggames as about anything else... real entrances with titantron videos? they've bene in since the 32bit era. not to mention every smackdown game had it as well and day of reckoning

bultje112

They had entrances with music in the 32-bit era, but they didn't have the actual TitanTron videos playing behind them. You're right about Smackdown games having them, but that was after WWE Raw on XBox came out, the ones before it didn't.

The controls were good, when the game came out it was the best looking wrestling game out there graphically, and the match types, roster, and ring/arena options where a plenty. The roster especially was fantastic. This was when WWE was full of both WWF and WCW stars right after the buy-out. I just don't see how it was a bad wrestling game. How about you, "the expert", tell me what you think was bad about it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=597zjYE1BUA

this one came out long before raw on the xbox. also who the hell cares about titantrons being shown in a wrestlinggame. I rather have good gameplay, which the raw games lacked. ever read any reviews of the games? nobody likes them, not even back in the day. and again the looks? yes it looked really good, but no wonder, it was exclusively on xbox, yet it played like crap. I rather have good gameplay again.

the roster of wwe raw games were much smaller and worse than the smackdown games that came out at the same time, or even the n64 and psx games before the

http://www.giantbomb.com/wwe-raw-2/61-13445/characters/

wwe raw 2 roster

wwe smackdown shut your mouth roster, both games came out around same time

http://www.gamespot.com/news/wwe-smackdown-shut-your-mouth-roster-revealed-2896097

I rest my case

There's a big difference between JUST the video playing between them, and the WWE Raw entrances which were EXACTLY like the T.V. show entrances. Smackdown 2 does show the Titantron videos, you're right. But WWE Raw 2 entrances had the video playing behind them while they walked down the ring, on the ramp, with the crowd around them just like the T.V. show.

And the Smackdown roster again, doesn't include the big amount of WCW stars that Raw did, which is what made it so cool. You could play matches against guys that you never could before. Freaking Goldberg in the WWF!!!

And what's this about everybody saying bad things about the game? IGN gives it a 9.1 out of 10, Electric Playground an 8.5, and it's an XBox Platinum Hit

Obviously you aren't a fan of the game, as I can see. Which is fine. But you're acting like it's a complete piece of crap when there's wrestling games out there like WCW vs. The World, TNA Impact, and Legends of Wrestling which are truly bad games. And you're also claiming that everyone out there is on the same page as you. Well, Platinum Hit sales and reviews seem to say differently.

oh I see, I personally never saw it, but you could be right. the Xbox is worth it though , just because a game is on PS2 or PC doesn't mean its not worth it on the Xbox.

It was the last system to see a new JSR or Panzer Dragoon game.

Bubble_Man

More like it was the system that effectively killed those franchises.

SMILEBIT always regretted how SEGA was conned into making those games for the XBOX. They said that if it had been up to them they would've put them on the GC.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is an amazingly beautiful game, though. It's a masterpiece, IMO. I'm bit sure GC could have produced the sheer beauty in the graphics that XBox did. It's surely possible after seeing games like Resident Evil remake and Metroid Prime. But it seems that games that looked THAT good were few and far between on Gamecube.

Okay WWE Raw 1 and 2 are terrible games. Plus Phantom Dust is missing as a great exclusive.

not sure REmake can be counted here ,its mostly pre renderd. Orta does look great though I wouldn't surprised if at one point it was a Dreamcast game that was upgraded.

Phantom Dust is great, I never got the chance to play it online, but still, singleplayer is hella fun anyway.

Okay fine, you guys win. You guys can declare it as a crappy wrestling game. But I'm gonna continue to play Goldberg vs. HHH and other dream matches in glorious XBox shine & polish.

Got a link to that? Hearing regrets from game developers, movie actors, ect always fascinates me.

Sorry, who knows where you could find those old articles nowadays.

That was way back (9-10 years ago) when SMILEBIT was set to be restructured (i.e. disbanded) after GUNVALKYRIE, PANZER DRAGOON ORTA and JET SET RADIO FUTURE sadly ended up as complete commercial failures.

They might have sold a little better on the GC in Japan but those games likely would've failed the same as on Xbox. I've never actually played GunValkyrie. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for it.

wouldnt have been so bad if wrestlers didnt get tired every ten seconds. Imagine GTA if Niko Bellic had to pull over and rest every few seconds.
