RE4. Hiding behind a villagers house with shotgun ready and hearing zombie moans for 10mins, then one comes behind and chokes me. nearly crapped myself

Bioshock. Especially while doing Sander Cohen's masterpiece

Well I would say Sillent Hill is one of the most disturbing games for me.I dont have anything against it,really its a fun game(somewhat confusing),but theres too much disturbing content. That one,and Sirene.Siren becouse you always have to be alert for those shibitos, and you cant kill them, just nock them out for sometime, and even thats hard.Yeah well thats about it for me.

The Suffering. Talk about an underated gem. This game oozes atmospere and scares... awesome horror expeience. The only other ones would be Silent Hill (the first ones) and maybe ......Manhunt. Yeah definetly Manhunt.

I think Silent Hill ,it's pretty scary, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. when you are in the dark, with you nightvision and your flashlight, and suddenly a bloodsuckers pops up, i jump from my chair to the ground.

Right on. Games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Condemned have freaked me out, but Dead Space is the only game to ever truly disturb me.

Cradle in Thief 3 A mental institution where the patients were experimented on, that became an orphanage until a fire broke out killing many inside - oh and it still has some of the victims haunting the corridors. Definitely the scariest set of levels I've played.

I have a weak stomach so a lot of games make me grossed out and scared. Gears 2 grossed me out when you where inside that giant worm. I was playing Dead Space at a friends house the other night and we jumped every time those things came through the vents.

I could'nt wait to get out of that level. What was so scary was the subtelty of it, it wasn't just based on horrible undead, it was so dark and threatening an environment.

Either Manhunt, Fatal Frame, or Silent Hill. Bioshock is in the honorable mention. Only problem is that once you get a gun you're not as scared as you were before.

Probably Phantasmagoria, although that was when I was younger. Back then it kinda bothered me but now I think it's silly.

The first 3 Silent Hills, the Fatal Frame trilogy and Forbidden Siren 1-2 are all scarier than Dead Space. A truly scary game relies on things other than well timed noises and jump scares.

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 3

Dead Space

Nothing else comes close. Horror themed FPS just doesn't do it for me.

I haven't actually played that many horror games but there's been stuff like somewhere in the Half-Life 2 series when the zombies kept getting burned to death for like 20 minutes (not by me) and I have Eternal Darkness which is the only game that's ever made me jump.

Since he was asking for disturbing, not scary, I'd go with Condemned on PS3. Seemed like the devs were satanic, making such a disturbing product.

Gotta go with Manhunt here. Not as disturbing as most people would like you to think, but still one of the most brutal games ever made.

dead space, but it wasn't that disturbing. It was surprising, really, and only more if you let it. FOR EXAMPLE, it made me jump a lot, but it never made me lose sleep or become freaked out while playing it. If you let it, it can come close to having that effect, but for the effort required, it falls much heavier into the category of 'entertaining' than 'disturbing'. For me, this is not at all a bad thing: if games are truly disturbing, then I probably don't want to play them.

4. DEADSPACE - i guess what makes this game more disturbing than others is that it leaves the ending equally ambiguous / scary, so it leaves gamers thinking

3. SILENT HILL 2 - 2 words: Manequin Rape

2. BIOSHOCK - hands down, the most visually disturbing game ever made

1. PORTAL - I know its a strage choice, but in my opinion, disturbing games are the ones that leave you thinking, rather than leave you with cheap scares (which is why RE4 is not on my list). When you try to piece together what happened at the facility, who your 'helper' was, and tie the entire experience with the Half-Life games, its downright disturbing in the purest sense of the word.

Dark Seed was pretty freaky back in the day. Especially part 2. I'd go with Dead Space as well for new games, some of the imagery was pretty intense.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. It totally destroyed the football game franchise.

It was quick, relentless and frightning to watch/play.

Seeing PES was once so great, this was hugely disturbing.

I'm going to have to say Manhunt. Few games have managed to deliver a sadistic and psychotic experience and fewer still have managed to do this with an amazing sound effects system.

manhunt screenshot

The grungy presentation of the entire game felt very visceral and real to me, especially playing in the dark, at home by myself with the surround sound turned up. It was an awesome experience.
