Single player... hmm... Mass Effect got pretty intense when you turned up the difficulty. As for MP, probably Gears Of War 1.

BranKetra

True. I'm replaying ME2 on Hardcore and will again on Insanity. It's tough.

I didn't even try ME2 on insane because I never finished ME1 on insane lol. I think the insane difficulty achievement for ME2 is the only one I'm missing.

In Heavy Rain, the fact that screwing up can lead to permanent death makes it infinetly more intense than anything else.

Putting this mechanic into any sort of game would make it so much intense.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Seriously, check it out. Extremely underrated game that kept me on edge throughout.

Either Heavy Rain, or Fahrenheit.

I see a lot of others picked Heavy Rain... glad others found it as much a blast to play as I did.

I hate it when people say its just a movie, and barely a game.

If anything, the story and the acting is the worst part.

The gameplay is the best; Precise actions that effectively mimick the real actions (steering with six axis during the highway scene, terrifying).

I'm sure Catherine and Demon's Souls is on someone's list. I'll say Gunstar Heroes, as it's pretty much non-stop action and your thumbs and fingers are crying by the time you finish the game (if you finish it).
