Hi everyone.

So basically, is there any section/boss fight/whatever in a game that made you go "holy s***!" like very few others? There are a couple that come to mind, mostly from the MGS franchise:

1) Psycho Mantis boss fight - Metal Gear Solid

2) Big Boss appearance - MGS4

3) That one time a video game told me that I spend too much time playing. AI Campbell, MGS2.

It doesn't have to be a 4th wall breaking moment or anything of the sort. Could just be a plot-twist or something related to visuals.

Well?

I remeber a moment in Soul Reaver where I threw an axe and then switched to the spectral realm. The axe stayed floating in mid air (time stops in the spectral realm). When I switched back to rhe material realm, the axe continued on it's trajectory and hit a wall. First time I'd seen something like that in a game.

Also in Soul Reaver, late in the game after getting the abilities to swim and shoot energy blasts, I was able to break a stained glass window in a flooded cathedral, and this lead back to an area from earlier in the game. That's the moment it dawned on me how interconnected it's sprawling world actually was.

Swimming in Quake. It just opened up a lot of possibilities for the level dessign. So many secrets hidden in that game's water. I explored every puddle to make sure I didn't miss anything.

There is a lot of these moments but its too spoilery so I will try not to spoil any.

1) Ludwig(Bloodborne: The Old Hunter)

It was pretty cool when he regained his humanity and picked up his sword and starts to blast you with sword waves accompanied by some terrific music.

2) Lynx (Chrono Cross)

He has a pretty cool twist in the story, last boss.

3) (the whole twist) Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time

The twist of the game probably rendered the whole franchise meaningless and make every game since is a prequel to this game.

For me it was probably the final cutscene from Doom Eternal's main campaign boss fight. Memorable fight, boss and ending!

@judaspete:

Props for a fellow Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain fan.

My most memorable moment would have to be playing Legend of Dragoon.... just the storyline in general had me hooked, and the gameplay was addictive albeit repetitive (I was only 11 or 12 at the time so I didn't mind). Even the graphics blew me away, which looking back now is kind of funny, we have came a long way since then lol.

@ratchetclank92: Yeah, I love the Legacy of Kain series, but Soul Reaver especially seemed like a lot of care went into it's design.

OG FFVII comes to mind. Aside from that one obvious scene, I remember being wowed in the beginning when you transitioned from the FMV title immediately into gameplay. Hadn't experienced anything like that in a game before at that point in time.

There were a lot of moments throughout the original Half-Life that still stick in my memory all these years later.

The fun house in Max Payne 2 is a great bit of level design that doesn't feature a single enemy.

The Scarecrow's fourth-wall break in Batman: Arkham Asylum was great. I had just built a new computer, and Arkham Asylum was the first game I played on it, so it freaked me out when it looked like my video card had overheated!

The ending to Freedom Force 2 is amazing, but it sucks that the cliffhanger will never be resolved since there is almost no chance of a Freedom Force 3.

Your first time stepping out of the vault in Fallout 3.
