I worked in the creative field long enough to know there's NOTHING original...none whatsoever. sorry...whatever you think is "original", it has been done before. Nothing is "creative" in creative field, all we're doing everyday is taking what's already out there, break it down, take something away, add something up, and put it back together. and there you have it, something new.

But that doesn't mean creativity is dead. New is always created based upon the old. That's how human creativity works...but enough about all these good for nothing cynical argument. for me, the most original game is Myst. A puzzle game that doesn't collect trash or push levers. The game world is build upon its unique logic system, and every puzzle is different, yet the underlying logic remains the same. And eventually, when you figure everything out, it all make sense. I've never played anything like it before or after.

hm, is myst still playable today? i've heard of it, but never played it.

i guess you're kind of right, but the way i like to see it is that every human being is original, so each one has the capacity to be unique, and that can never be taken away from you or me or anyone. it's the un-cynical view.

I think Myst is still playable. There's this collection of the first 3 Myst games all together, if you can find it in Best Buy or gamestop, I'm sure you can find it on Ebay. It contains the first 3 Myst games (which I think are the best): Myst, Riven, and Exile. Myst 4 and 5 are definitely still on the shelf and shouldn't be that hard to find.

Myst is a very special game, figuring out what you should do next is a major part of the puzzle. And it requires a lot of patience and observation. I still kept my note and map I draw for Myst 2 and 3 somewhere, LOL. those are the good old times.

IMO, MGS. I have never played such a cinematic story game before. And it has spawned a great many more. The vibrating of the controller...I was awestruck at that game.

Shenmue is one...QTEs, an interactive world, it's all there.

Now, this isn't of the past 3 generations but I think SFII is the most perfected idea of a game ever. So perfected, that over 20 years after, every single fighting game is a copy of it.

...and NO ONE has mentioned The World Ends With You...?

SHAME ON YOU, PEOPLE.

One of the most original games EVER, with the most original gameplay and an amazing storyline... It was my personal GOTY last year.

I couldnt agree more. I got the most enjoyment from playing that game than any other I think. Another game that should be in here I think is Eternal Darkness.

Monster Rancher 2 for me. Sure, Monster Rancher 1 existed, but it wasn't released in Europe.:P

I also have to mention Portal.

As soon as graphics went from 2D>3D, there's a million plus one original titles unto itself. My pic would be Ape Escape.

MGS1, Assassins Creed, Portal and Dues Ex.

Oh and Ape Escape, maybe it's the fact it's the first analog controlling game I played and I found it extremely difficult.

Portal (gameplay)

Shadow of the Colossus (concept and creative approach)

Braid (artsy and risky but rewarding approach)

That's just my top three though; there are many more

Shadow of the Colossus, Mirror's Edge. Have been playing those two recently so that's basically all I can think of:P But they still are very unique.
