Most Overrated and Underrated Game Franchises

Overrated:

• Mario (same every time)
• Call of Duty (really starting to copy and paste just like Mario, when Modern Warfare 6 comes along it will probaly have the same maps as Call of Duty 4)
• Any Sports Game (same game every year, but then again, they can't don't really have much to build on, but really?, all that praise for the same thing as last year)

Underrated:

• Saints Row (Passed off as a GTA clone, these games are a hell of fun)

Overrated: Call of Duty Halo Gears of War Final Fantasy Fable Resident Evil (there have been just as many misses as hits in this series, but it still gets major hype) The Elder Scrolls Assassins Creed Underrated: No One Lives Forever Persona Penumbra Killzone ( particularly 2 & 3, which were both great FPS games and two of the best looking games this gen, but ignored or brushed off by many)gamerdude375

The later games have really shallow story lines with too much emphases on the US side, they are biased. I can see how they are fun to play but I lack too see the need for new entries in the series without any significant changes. It may work on the business side, but as a costumer that's not my concern at all.
-sports games

I'm also getting the feeling that people think this is a popularity contest. Saying a series is overrated because one doesn't like it. I wanted to write halo as an overrated series but I couldn't think of anything wrong with it really. I could say the same for Uncharted but I've never played the games and cant offer any opinion. Personally I'd love to hear WHY people believe something is overrated. Offer some insight as I did.

Overrated:

Call Of Duty (It's on the top of my list because if you drive by gamestop the night before release you would see a line from the store all the way to the main road and the games jut don't seem that special to me.)

Assassin's Creed (I love this series so much but they really need to step it up the gameplay is getting really repetitive.)

Skyrim (Own the game myself love it but I personally think for a game to be game of the year it should be almost flawless and what Beth released has been a buggy mess and almost unplayable for certain PS3 owners)

Underrated:

Dante's Inferno (God Of War clone it is but I found it fun and the story while not true to it's source material was pretty good)

Well I played AC2 I beat AC1 , Watched a buddy play ACB. I just don't think it deserves the all the praise it gets. While the story is original and innovative , I didnt really care for it at all.

Well I played AC2 I beat AC1 , Watched a buddy play ACB. I just don't think it deserves the all the praise it gets. While the story is original and innovative , I didnt really care for it at all.

Yeah, I only played Assassin's Creed 2 and both combat and traversal felt incredibly clunky and unpolished. Each aspect of the experience felt very half arsed, but mostly incredibly tedious.

Because I can only comment on that which I have played. But, yeah, Uncharted 2 was so scripted that I felt like I was barely even there. Especially when there was "platforming" that had to be done. Then the gun fights were just tedious. You have almost no weapon variety and there were about 3 types of enemies you could encounter...

Overrated:

• GTA IV - Gamespot gave this a 10, and the game was universally praised. It has excellent qualities (especially physics), but the world is small, bleak, and limited. Missions are not very diverse. I would have given it a 9 - it's nowhere near the perfect game, as much as I like it.
• GTA: SA - Not my favorite (which everyone seems to love) - police helicopter spam every five seconds that have a ridiculous amounts of power; "The Sims" elements such as eating, socializing, which I did not care for; almost everybody having guns that really shouldn't (it's the GTA universe, but still, it was a bit annoying). However, the open world is incredible.

Underrated:

• "Delta Force" series - build your own levels with an easy-to-use mission editor, rank up in stats, the company hosts their own forum, open (and endless) world, gameplay is sometimes even more fast paced than COD, or sometimes slower paced than Battlefield, more game modes than you can sneeze at. The elements are all there. However, the company that makes the game sucks. They don't care about their fanbase, their games are full of glitches and cheaters, and they haven't put out a good (or full) game since 2005. Basically, the games are vastly underrated (and should have way more players), but there's no players because that developer sabotages itself.

I don't know how anybody can call COD overated anymore considering its always hated on. If anything, it's underated by the gaming community in my opinion. It gets unfairly hated on just because its Call of Duty, and people will bash the game for something, and then praise another game that has the same thing in it.

AC is overrated. I've not heard many people be showered with praise.

And i can see why people hate on the current RE franchise.
