overrated but definitely good games are ff7 and ocarina of time. ocarina of time however is nothing great, ff7 is like 9/10 ocarina of time 8/10 at best. incredibly overrated as 90% of nintendo's games are and almost all of miyamoto's 3d games

What a terrible opinion you have. Why is OoT nothing great? Yet FF7 is? FF7 aged a lot, OoT has hardly aged aside from graphics.
all games made by Sega except for Panzer Dragoon series
Final Fantasy series
Mega Man series
Castlevania series
Contra series
Tekken series
Wipeout series
Metal Gear Solid series
Spyro series
Crash Bandicoot series
Diddy Kong Racing
Crash Team Racing
Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Vagrant Story
Everything I like more than you. Everything you like more than me. Everything somebody else likes that we don't necessarily agree with. Hopefully that saves some time.
Ico - Over-glorified escort mission game.
Mercenaries - Terrible AI which ruins the game.
BG Dark Alliance 1 + 2 - Okay but always more sought-after than the Norrath games which are two times better.
Odin Sphere - Can you say decent frame-rate? OS can't. Also possesses colour-coordination of the vomit variety.
Prince of Persia (new) series - All flash and no substance. They're not even fun.
Devil May Cry 3 - It's a 2.5D Hack 'n Slash which had the difficulty ramped-up in place of any imagination or compelling gameplay.
Red Dead Revolver - Now more popular because of the sequel, but after the first hour's fun becomes dreadfully dull.
Soul Reaver 2 - Managed to lose all of the things that made the first game special.
Need for Speed Most Wanted (PS2)- Considered by most to be the series' pinnacle even though Carbon had better modding, a stronger car list and better modes. And also the time-slow function was simply a ruse to give the game time to think and mask the massive framerate issues it had.
Burnout Dominator - Proof that going 'back to your roots' after you've had a better idea in the previous game, is a really daft decision. A step backwards in every way for the series. Wasn't even a match for Burnout 3.
F1 Career Challenge (PS2) - Designed for a steering wheel, so they simply didn't bother making the gamepad's controls work. Same could be said for Richard Burns Rally (PS2) too.

I'll stop short of naming the Final Fantasy series because i haven't played them enough to know if they're overrated. I just know i don't like them.
I actually agree with OoT and ALttP, but not because I think they're bad. I love them both, easily some of my favorite games of all time. However the stock answer for "What is your favorite Zelda game" seems to be either OoT and ALttP. Meanwhile, Both Majora's Mask and Wind Waker topped OoT in terms of everything (except maybe sound track) and Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages are both better than ALttP. Don't get me wrong... I love all the Zelda games (except 2) to varying degrees. Easily my favorite series. But OoT and LttP are both overrated in that there are better ones than them.
I disagree. LttP and Ocarina are better structured games. I do like the Windwaker combat, though.I actually agree with OoT and ALttP, but not because I think they're bad. How is Ocarina of Time overrated? It's a bloody fantastic game! As for Pokémon, the retro games are great, but the modern ones ain't impressive at all. Tetris is fun and addicting too.FFVII

Ico I just didn't get the fuss over the game it was a pretty dull experience for me.
I would also throw in Mario Kart 64: In my opinion it felt slow compared to later entries in the series.
Star Fox I mean sure it'sa good game but it can be beaten in an hour.
Megaman yep their good but don't hold a candle to the 2D Sonic or Mario games.
Ocarina of Time + ALttP

Can't realy say anything about Ocarina of Time but definitely thing that A Link to the Past is overrated as far as 2D Zelda. It's middle of the pack, really. I like Minnish Cap, Oracle of Ages and Link's Awakening all better.
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country 2
Metal Gear Solid
Shadow of the Colossus
Kingdom Hearts
Half-Life 2
Golden Eye
Wind Waker

This, everyone is gonna hate on something for 0 reason. Overated didn't exsist back then, it only exsists now Via GTA MGS Halo COD <-- These games are hyped past anything humaly possible to create.
There are great games out there that maybe don't deserve praise in all catagories, FF6 is fun as hell, but the combat system comparative to now a days RPGS is pretty much hold A button until the enemies died. Last I checked though no one played RPGs for the hax gameplay, talking to you FF13 an whatever the hell you are tring to accomplish.

Exactly. I want people to put insightful reasons as to why they think a game is overrated, because it was well received.

Too much work. Just ask individually if you want to know why.
Sonic Adventure 2. I tried getting into it recently, but I just couldn't stand the Knuckles and Tails sections and the fact that the game forces you to play as them. The first Sonic Adventure got it right by letting you play the whole game as a character of your choice, but the way SA2 made it feel so disjointed and sloppy, because Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails all have radically different feels and it kills the pacing.

SonOfChewbacca
I've never played the first one but I thought Sonic Adventure 2 was borderline unplayable for pretty much exactly the reasons you stated. I didn't even really like the Sonic sections though.
Beyond Good and Evil. Not a bad game, just unremarkable.
Business_Fun
I tried to get into that (recently) and wow, I was expecting more. It has that feeling of being very lackluster and plain. SOme good ideas and design choices, but overall very underwhelming.

BarbaricAvatar
Very, very true. I found my copy of BG 1 and 2 for about $3 each and would probably not spend much more on each considering their were as awesome as the Norrath games which are worth less respectively.
tc's opinion is garbo

Aside from graphics and very minor camera issues (due to the N64 controller) how has it aged? The combat could be deepend a tad with some of the newer zelda mechanics, but even then, that is more of a preference thing. There isn't a game that does the 3D open world adventure genre better than OoT.

yeah my opinion is terible because you don't agree
why do I care about graphics? ocarina of time is nothing exceptional. the size of the world is inmensely overrated, the storyline sucks(as always), the gameplay, while good is nothing genre defining either(bland combat). if you want a game that defined a genre, it was shadow of the colossus for instance. zelda was basically mario 64 in a bigger world(miyamoto has even said this) with some added features. mario 64 was inmensely overrated as well.
keep in mind btw I like ocarina of time I might give it 7.5 or 8/10, that is very good, but it's supposed to be the best or one of the best games ever. well no way in hell. not in my top 50 and I've played thousands of games
A lot of names dropped but not much explanation. Okay. Mine is Azel: Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn. I think because so few people have played it that the game has amassed a cult following by the few who have been able to play it. The status of the game has helped elevate it to a kind of ill-gotten critical mass. It's not a bad game by any means (far from it). The problem is that the story feels weak. The Panzer Dragoon games have really deep stories and world lore when compared against their peers in the shooter genre, so it isn't that strange that SEGA felt this could be capitalised on for a fully-fledged RPG. Thing is, when stretched over a full-length RPG that level of story and lore suddenly isn't so vast and compelling, but simply spread thin. The game still has some things going for it though, most notably is its unique world which is a mixture of apocalyptic-meets-dangerously-primitive that I've not seen in almost any other game. Sadly for most people this game is too expensive to indulge so many will never play it.Articuno76
panzer dragoon saga;s story feels weak? you got to be kidding me. pls explain the story to me then as I doubt you understand any of it and I doubt you played the other panzer dragoon saturn games to understand this inmensely complex storyline that is somewhat comparable to nausicaa of the valley of the wind, only with a better setting imo.

Ocarina was the definition of genre-defining. I know the game isn't your traditional RPG, but the story is told in the fairy tale sense--letting the player assume the role of the protagonist. An adventure game should leave room for imagination and let the player dress part of the role. The story arc is still second to none.[QUOTE="Articuno76"]A lot of names dropped but not much explanation. Okay. Mine is Azel: Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn. Perhaps 'anemic' is a better term. And I think what I am talking about more specifically isn't story so much as narrative (which is weak). If you want to include interwoven world lore (across all the Panzer games) as 'story' I guess you could but that wouldn't realistically reflect the experience most people would have with the game. As for the story..I don't really remember it. You are working on a digging site for the empire that is digging up ancient things, one guy in that empire has actually defected and turns to have the interests that go as deep as the maintenance of civilisation (zomg big twist). I think there was something about the player being the disembodied spirit of a dragon warrior or something or other (zomg another big twist). There wasn't anything not to get or anything complicated...it just wasn't interesting enough toremember (and I only played it a year or so ago). I'm sure you can list loads of details not listed here but I highly doubt they are details I missed...rather details that simply didn't make much of an impact. And that is really what the problem with the story is. It might be an amazingly detailed and complex tale, but at the end of day if that impact doesn't hit the player it doesn't matter and the developers would have been betting off telling a cliched story of friendship that hits the right marks (what is the point of a story if not to either make a point or make an emotional impact? PZS definately doesn't do the latter...and if it is making a point I am not sure what it is).I read all the optional stuff as I went along and still wasn't really impressed. What I will take away from Panzer Dragoon Saga was the experience of being in that world; a vast dangerous expanse long untouched by human hands. If I didn't really get the story it's a failure on the developer to expound on the key points or relying too heavily on esoteric lore in a game that doesn't particularly encourage digging below the surface. I went in expecting an RPG experience, instead what I got was a world rich in lore but sparse in narrative. Like I said, the Panzer Dragoon games have great stories for their genre, but when made into a full length RPG and compared to its peers in the genre it doesn't stack up. Even if the story is great, the total narrative effect on the player is really muted. So either the story is weak, or the effect the story has on the player is weak. Either way the end result in terms of player engagement and emotional investment is the same.

This **** is sig worthy!
Who hypes the size of the world anyway? Sure on today's standards it is not that big, but why does that matter? It is lovingly crafted and memorable. SO many games today are either linear or massive, repetitive sandbox games. I long for the days of beautifully handcrafted open world adventures that feel unique every step of the way.
Tetris overrated?
Well, I guess you could say that it was hyped so much it completely overshadowed all other puzzle games when it came out, but more likely it's success can be attributed to the genius, ageless idea that still hasn't been topped by any puzzle game (you may argue Lumines did that but it's basically a variant of Tetris itself) and the fact that anyone can play it.

I wouldn't call Tetris overrated, since it is a heavily inspiring game for many puzzlers, but I personally hate it :P. Meteos all the way!

Majora's Mask.
Overrated games:
- Mario Kart 64: mediocre racing game, worst Mario Kart, there are far better racing games on the system yet it keeps getting praised.
- Super Mario 64: maybe I had to play this when it came out to know what all the hype was about, but to be honest I liked the DS version much better.
- Super Mario Kart: damn that's almost unplayable now. Definitely a token of its' time. Still can't decide whether this one or 64 is the worst in the series.
- Starfox 64 / Lylat Wars: Eh, not really a fan of completing games in a sitting. It's an ok shooter, there's nothing else about it.
- Paper Mario series: With the exception of TTYD, which I have not played, the games aren't that great. The art style is good, I'll give them that, but I had more fun with SMRRPG and M&L.
- ALttP: never got into it. I tried again and again, but unlike OoT and MM it never managed to hold my interest for long. (on the other hand, I loved Link's Awakening)
