Just out of curiosity I was wondering what games that get a lot of praise and you just hate them.

Angry Birds. I hate how people treat this game like it revolutionized gaming and how it is in a league of its own. The game is mediocre at its very best and deserves a small fraction of the praise, attention and hype it gets.

It was also a lesson in stealing someone else's idea and making lots of money from it. Crush the Castle
The games i've been frequently disappointed by are:
I stopped short of saying Neverwinter Nights because i've only given that one trial and even though i didn't like it, it was in a period of life where i was far too fussy.
This along with Temple RunAngry Birds. I hate how people treat this game like it revolutionized gaming and how it is in a league of its own. The game is mediocre at its very best and deserves a small fraction of the praise, attention and hype it gets.

how so? I hate skyrim with a passion. I loved morrowind and to an extent oblivion. skyrim is utter garbage. it took out all of the magic, imagination, creativity, and love of the franchise and put in pretty yet unoriginal graphics and lame cinematics. God I hate it.Zelda Alttp is by far the worst of the series.

I don't know if I hate any of the more popular games but the game that I don't understand at all why it has so many fans when it released and now would be
Beyond Good and Evil
There would be a lot of extremely popular games that I'm not a fan of but can see why people like them either now or for their time
Final Fantasy X
All the Bioshock games
The Last of Us
All the God of War games
Skyrim
Fallout 3
Halo 4
Gears of war 2 and 3 (not including the new one because no one seems to really care about it)
Halo Combat Evolved
The game stops being enjoyable after level 5. the levels were way too long for their own good. The level design is of the most blatant copy and paste of any fps game I've ever seen. Â Two of the levels were mirrored with a different background.Â
The copy and copy within copy and paste WITHIN copy and paste drove me nuts from levels 6-9!
The later Halo games...3, 4, reach, are better than Halo 1 and 2.

Halo singleplayer isn't that great.... especially compared to Half-Life or Metroid Prime, the latter of which IS NOT a FPS but often gets compared to Halo probably because they are the crowning jewels of their respective systems. Speaking of which, Half-Life was the crown jewel for the PC by the time Halo and Prime came out.
EVERY CALL OF DUTY after the first 2.
we just recently wasted a couple of hours from our weekend playing MW3 campaign with my friends, cos he found it for 3 euros used. it sucked beyond belief! it's a dictionary example of a generic shooter. what was great about the first 2? the scripted events and nicely produced, immersive war scenarios worked pretty nicely back in those days. today such things are minimum standards, where you start building your shooter.
ok, sure, the online mode is straightforward, basic FPS fun, but nothing special there either.
I don't hate these games but I thought they were highly overrated:
-God of War 1
-Uncharted 2
-New Super Mario Brothers DS
-Shadow of the Colossus (yes, I did say this game)
Ocarina of Time for me because imo the future 3d Zeldas games  had a more improved Lock on system, dungeon design and a better inventory menu.  Plus in Oot, they did not tell you where to go. And some puzzles in the game were impossible to solve without a guide.  Unfornately I played Skyward Sword, WindWaker and Twilight Princeess before Ocarina of Time. So OoT was a downgrade for me.

Don't worrry because I agree.
I think GOW1 is overrated but GOW2 is easily superior.
I know it isn't legacy, but I hate the Assassin's Creed games.Â
Samslayer
I have to agree with this as well. I was bored to tears after probably the 5th assassination mission in the first, and sold the game while it was still somewhat valuable. Im actually not a fan of 95% of Ubisofts catelog and Ive never quite understood why.
Meh. I dunno. Anything the kids are playing. lol
By that, I mean games like Call of Duty, Halo, Uncharted and Gears of War.
The kinds of games that little kids like to play because they think it makes them "cool."
Why are people so easily amused by shiny graphics and repetitive gameplay?
As for legacy series...I never cared for Metroid or Metroidvania.
I loved Castlevania up until Dracula X. But when it became Metroidvania, I lost interest because it tried too hard to be an RPG as well.
And Metroid has always bored me. It's the setting. Call me crazy, I typically don't like sci-fi that much.
Most, if not all, legacy games you hear about as being classics and fondly remembered generally deserve all the love they get, if not more. Everything from Space Invaders to Ocarina of Time.
If I had to choose one, it would be based on personal opinion of the game, not because I don't think it is really important to the medium or because they aren't great games. The first Metal Gear Solid would be my choice. It's a good game for what it is, but I find it to be clunky and hard to look at, even back then.

Yeah, from a gameplay perspective I had a lot of issues with it. Â Glad I'm not the only one :P
And what makes God of War 2 so much better than 1?
Little Inferno. People claiming it as a great game are so wrong in my opinion.CollarcatIt's one of those games where the meaning is more important than the gameplay. Which I hate, because it gives me no incentive to play it past the first point. After I play it once, I go "yeah I get it" and have no reason to go back and experience it again.

More of the good stuff and less of the bad. And no final-boss beat 'em up either.
Prince of Persia 2008
Demon's Souls
I do not hate either of these games
Prince of Persia was way too easy, and the gameplay was nowhere near as good as the trilogy from last generation.Â
I just do not understand why people adore a game just because it is super hard. The level design is pretty good, but without a story driving me, I just do not see the point of grinding for several hours just to be a boss for bragging rights. Not that I need a story for a game to be fun but it is just odd that the Souls games do not really have one.Â

Ok understandable. Â I really wasn't a fan of a lot of the platforming parts in the first and other annoying things like climbing the spike tower at the end of the game.

Yeah that really dragged GOW down a lot for me. They were poorly designed and annoying. The second one pretty much gets rid of most of the bad stuff from the first. Plus I personally think the second one had better boss fights.
I did enjoy SOTC mainly for the last couple colossi and the ending. But that game has glaring flaws. I wouldn't call it overrated if people didn't proclaim it as G.O.A.T.

Indeed. Â I really didn't like the hack 'n slash gameplay as much as other people did too...felt too much like a button masher to me at times. Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden are superior to me IMO. Â
And yeah SotC was definitely one of the most unique games I've played and had some clever battles but I thought it was poorly executed gameplay wise...annoying camera and controls IMO.

Not to mention the horrible framerate on the PS2 version and the empty world. I pretty much only liked the collosi battles and hated looking for them.

Yeah it seemed like the only point of the overworld was to get from point A to point B...
A lot of hate for GoW out there, wow.
I loved the games. Fantastic looking graphics that really pushed hte PS2. A great storyline steeped in Greek Mythology. Brutal action and fantastically impressive finishers for enemies. And speaking of the enemies, some VERY impressive boss battles. Plus the controls were spot on, which is very important for such an action-oriented game. Just an epic, in every since of the word; in my book.
