360 Avatars

We all know about the extremely popular rumor going around that Microsoft is set to unveil its new motion sensor control (Wii-ripoff), supposedly entitled Newton.

Well, there is another rumor going around that Microsoft is set to unveil their take on Mii's this holiday season, which are being called Avatars, and the fact that the link mentions an NDA makes it look pretty legit.

Avatars : With hundreds of clothing options to choose from your 'Avatar' can truly reflect you each and every day!
- Spend a few minutes or a few hours building and outfitting your 'Avatar' to reflect the real you. The choice is yours.
- Your 'Avatar' will represent you as you jump into various arcade and retail games.

- You'll be playing in the games!

- Uses the same game controllers as the original console system (all games use regular console controllers, not your computer keyboard or mouse.)"

-Lips is a music and singing game that includes 30 songs, 2 wireless interactive microphones, the ability to use and sing your own music or downloaded songs from an online service. Designed to have fun with friends, Lips scores you on your singing (pitch, rhythm, and tune) and overall performance.

Wireless mics are interactive, with lights on the shaft of the microphone that pulse to the rhythm of your voice, and motion sensors that allow you to dance, move or swing to score points.

Take songs from a CD or your ipod, and upload them into the game. The game will reduce the vocals so you can sing along and be heard, and score on whether you're in tune. Lyrics can also be added directly into the song to sing along.

yep Microsoft just owned Nintendo. Their avatar things are a lot more, heck, all around better than Nintendo's bag. I doubt that the motion sensing controller will get through if it looks alot like Nintendo's model. Nintendo sued nyko for their wireless nunchuck and the only thing that was the same was the color really. It felt different and looked different and they still sued. So... the motion controller must be in development ( I'm hoping)

The reason Nintendo sued Nyko was because they looked similar and were basicly the same thing, also Nyko didn't put a label that said that was a third part controller.

Anyway I don't care much for avatars, I bought my 360 to game, not to look at avatars of random people, also MS is gonna give us some cheap childish ones and then they are gonna jack up the price of the good ones.

More Forza 3 details.

Forza Motorsport 3 (Forza 3) is a racing simulator that caters to both motorsports fans and automotive life****enthusiasts. Forza 3 will offer the premier racing experience available exclusive for xbox 360.

Forza 3 is an epic game – Due to the number of cars and tracks included in the Forza 3 game, it will be sold as a 2-disc set.

Key features of forza 3 include…

• Highly detailed real-world car and track model (over 400 cars and 100 tracks)
• Near limitless customization option for car tuning and custom artwork
• A variety of online community features
• Highly accurate racing simulation including real world damage
• New race mode (draf, drift, oval, point to point racing, etc)
• Powerful assist system to help new players get into the game quickly

Assume that new cars and tracks would be released on Xbox Live shortly after the launch of Forza 3 and continuing on each month. For example, every month you might see new pack of 10 cars for $4.00 and every 3 months, a real-world race track for $4.99

Assume that a few months after forza 3 was released, a large expansion pack was released with new cars and tracks. You would have the option of either purchasing this expansion pack through Xbox Live or in a retail store. For example, 30 new cars and a new real-world track could be available for $19.99

Imagine that a year after Forza 3 was released, a new update version of the game became available (for example, Forza 3 2010) that not only included all cars and tracks previously released over the past year, but also 30 of the coolest new 2010 cars and a new unreleased real-world track. It would further include the top 20 user-generated car skins and car tuning setup from the fastest track cars. In addition, all professional race cars would revised with their new 2010 liveries (paint schemes). The price of this updated 2010 version of Forza 3 would be $39.99.

Suppose when Forza 3 launches, a special VIP membership program was available that would entitle the buyer to all future Forza 3 downloadable content, access to exclusive on-line race events and prizes, VIP status on Forza auction house and Community boards, extra server space for photos and videos, and free month of Live. This VIP membership would be available for $19.99.

Image that an exclusive Forza 3 limited Collector's Edition was released that included the full version of the game plus membership in a special VIP program that would entitle the buyer to all the future Forza 3 downloadable content, access to exclusive on-line race events and prizes, VIP status on Forza auction house and community boards, extra server space for photots and videos, and a free month of Live. The Collector's Edition would also include exclusive motorsports content not found anywhere else – This could be anything from authentic racing gear (gloves, helments, etc) to specially created automobile manufacture gear (branded jackets, etc) to VIP motorsport event tickets.

Meh...I'm not impressed. The only thing that I hope is that the new Scene It? stuff is DLC since I already own Scene It? LCA.

Wow, I seriously hope that Forza is a massive failure. I don't want to see that VIP bull**** make its way into other games.

I'm just not understanding that Forza 2 discs thing. It says that its two discs because of the amount of cars and tracks right? So what if I want to use a car thats on Disc 2 to drive on a track thats on disc 1? Or vice versa?

I guess it'll use some kinda data cache, but that just seems a little ridiculous for the amount of different combonations possible.

Still - the Avatars look like a nice little addition to waste time with. We'll see how they work out, though reading that "you'll use them in games" portion sounds kinda lame.

When I buy a $60 game I want it to be the full game. I don't like the idea of subscribing to a full price game. I suppose they will have success with it though. People will buy anything. Hell, I bought GT5P, so I'm probably the kind of person they are trying to target with this VIP idea... that doesn't mean that I like it though.

You're right, it probably will be success. In fact, they'll likely only need to sell a handful of memberships to turn a profit.

I wonder how bad will this get? I'm already paying $50 a year for XBL. I'm paying $10 extra for games this gen. More and more ads are being crammed down my throat on Live and in-games. I'm expected to pay for "additional" constumes, maps, and even XBL wallpaper and user icons. And soon, I'll probably have to buy VIP access to fully enjoy games. I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox 720 has a little slit on the side so I can swipe my credit card through to turn the thing on.

I wholeheartedly agree, but I am also staying weary of how legitimate this stuff is, some of it just sounds too silly or ridiculous to really be real. I don't MS is planning to try to take away sales from the market Nintendo firmly has in their grasp, they aren't that stupid I hope, as they have no chance really. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 can't really be set in the Civil War, that seems a little controversial, and do you mean to tell me that some of the heroes and villains are going to be backing the South and slavery...Wow, just wow!

This Avatar thing sounds like it can be pretty cool. Forza 3 sounds awesome except for the VIP thing. That just seems a little much but if I can still get the usual downloadable stuff like more cars and tracks if I pick up the regular edition of the game then I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it. Also I guess it depends how much the Collector's Edition would cost as well. I definately need alot more info on this though. Still kind of makes me uneasy because I think this kind of stuff could get taken too far and you end up with your consumers just being too fractured with what they have or have not. Being on 2 discs because of all the cars and tracks sounds really awesome though and with Forza being my sim-racer of choice this is a definate purchase for me.

HiResDes

Maybe I missed some info in this, but are you sure it is set during the American Civil War?

From what I read is sounds more like it is talking about a Civil War between the Marvel's comic book characters and nothing more.

If GH4 is $179 with drums etc... then sign me up. You'd think MS could come up with something better than "avatars" --- though I'm having trouble coming up with anything better myself. :|

Forza 3 is a love/hate thing right now. I love the fact they aren't afraid of going multiple discs to cram more content into the game but on the other hand I don't like this VIP business. I don't think limiting a large part of the userbase only because they didn't pay as much money as another part is a good idea (the extra server space and VIP status on community boards might be good ideas in the vein of Bungie Pro but special races and events for VIP members is a definite no IMO). Getting all the downloadable content for free if you have a more expensive edition is a great idea though, and one that I wish other games would use (ie. CoD4 and Halo 3).

Can't say much about the rest. Avatars are completely uninteresting to me (I sincerely hope they won't replace gamerpics, no one touches my PA one) and Guitar Hero 4 will have a superb songlist which will force me to buy it even if I'm a Rock Band person. Smashing Pumpkins and The Doors are sure ways to open my wallet.

Yeah, there was a huge comic event a couple summers ago where the whole Marvel comics universe split up when someone tried to make Heroes reveal their secret identities in order to obtain legal permission to continue being heroes. Some signed up, some didn't. There was this small little civil war that happened because of it.....

Are you kidding? :o Civil War (the main story) was one of the greatest events in Marvel comics! I actually went back to reading comics because of that.

Then Spider-Man: One more day happened and I left again......
