Well that effeminate males thing is more of a stereotype of the genre since very few companies do that besides Square-Enix.
I would recromend Odin Sphere since it has an awesome combat system and is quite possibly my favorite game of all-time, however if your not a big fan of difficulty and tactical real-time fighting you will find very little meat on the bones since that is literally all you do in the game.
Get Oblivion. I fink its beta on PC than 360 even tho i hav it on 360. its a reli gd game an reli adictive. an thers tons 2 do.
Hmm, let me comment on the ones I've beaten. I'll bold the ones I'd not reccomend. Oh, and no action RPG's. Those are more action-y than RPG-y.
Paper Mario: A great title, the only flaw is that it doesn't make enough use of the Paper part of the title.
" " TTYD: Damn, this one actually makes use of the Paper.
Phantasy Star: Get out the grid paper, because you'll need maps.
" " II: Not as much mappage, but the gameplay is somewhat improved.
" " III: BO-RING. Enough said on that.
" " IV: Gambit-ing before it was called gambit. And the cutscenes are to DIE for :P.
" " Collection: Compilation, not much to say.
Shining Force: OK distraction, I guess.
" " II: Now this is the real deal. Feels more like a console RPG instead of some sort of arcade RPG.
" ": Sword of Hajya: Shallowness is best left to the portables.
" " CD: Two games in one! You bet your ass it is!
Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby: Pretty damn original.
Fire Emblem: Superb story, and tons of strategy.
" " Dark Dragon & The Sword of Light: It begs for a save system. BEGS.
" " Gaiden: A save system, but it deviates from the original. Still good, though.
" " Mystery of the Emblem: Remake and sequel. Pretty good, I guess.
" " Genealogy of the Holy War: Get it. NOW!!!
" " Sword of Seals: Low point of the series, but that's not saying much.
" " Sacred Stones: Another low point, but again, not much.
" " Path of Radiance: Damn, its like America's GotHW.
Final Fantasy: You'll love naming your entire team after South Park characters :P.
" " II: Buggy battle system, and it almost urges you to abuse it.
" " III: Back on track. Nice job system and even more customization than the original.
" " IV: Epic. Epic and good.
" " V: The job system may turn you off, but it's still good.
" " VI: Best of the old school. Kefka still beats the crap outta Sephiroth.
" " Crystal Chronicles: Good with multiplayer. OK, that's needed for the full experience.
Dragon Warrior: My god, so much needed. Like full view in a dungeon.
" " II: On the right track, but still lacks a lil something.
" " III: Nice job system and a good story.
" " IV: Awesomeness drips from this. Five chapters, broader view of your character's history, innovative battle system, truly amazing.
" " V: Didn't really do much.
" " VI: Imagine if 3 & 4 had a baby. This is the baby. And there's animation. Yay!
" " I & II: Compliation.
" " Monsters: Odd little title, but it's good.
Chrono Trigger: Superb RPG. Best of the best.
Earthbound: Oh god, this is awful. Giant, loosely linked fetch quest.
" Zero: Imagine a downgraded Earthbound. Yes, suckage of that magnitude.
Star Ocean: The Star-Trek comparisons wear thin from Day 1. Nice battle system, though.
Tales of Phantasia: 2D version of Star Ocean, but this came before that, so I'm willing to make an exception :P.
Bahamut Lagoon: So much customization, superb character development. Nice.
Rogue: Boring. But it was made in 1977, so can you blame it? I can :P.
Super Paper Mario: Best Mario RPG to date. TO. DATE.
Lunar Silver Star: Pretty good. If you have Sega CD, get it.
I know its big, but look at the name.
