Just finished playing borderlands, mass effect 2 and stalker. Loved all 3 but looking for something new. I want something long and involving. Loved the original fallouts, never played the baldurs gate games.

But these seem like the two best games out there i havent played, any insights would be helpful...

oh, i thought you were talking about a merging of the two games like a nuke dropped on the world in dragon age and all the inhabitants mutated horribly. anyway, i guess i liked fallout 3 more of the 2, but going with dragon age is by no means a wrong choice.

I would likely lean towards FO3 aswell, Not that DA:O is a bad game by any means, but the GOTY edition of FO3 is just too much value for the money to skip by :P

And it is also a great deal "lighter" to play.

It is not like the first 2 games tho, not in tone, and not in execution, which is sad. Neverthe less it is a good game.

Go with DA:O. Fallout 3 is by no means a bad game, but DA:O has a singleplayer campaign that lasts between 50-60 hours and insane replayability. I am not joking. It is even more replayable than ME2. Also, DA:O is a challenging game even on its normal settings. It is also very rewarding, and you can carry your character over to its upcoming expansion, and probably to whatever sequel there will be next year.

FO3 is longer but DAO is long too. FO3 is like a longer, better, darker version of borderline, great gameplay and environment. DAO has a better storyline, dialogue, and some of the best boss battles. Based on the list you mentioned I would suggest FO3. But you want a RPG that is more traditional, no guns, then DAO.

P.S. At some point you should have played both.

Fallout 3 is not longer then DAO unless you just go around and do nothing, and the shooting sucks.

These sorts of questions belong in the GGD Game Recommendation Thread.
