I think the idea of creating games for old systems is amazing, but the only one I know about is pier solar, (http://www.piersolar.com/)

does anyone know of any others, like for the snes, nes, dreamcast, saturn ?

and does anyone wanna discuss the idea of new games for old systems ?

and if you know of any types of these games list them.

I think it is Illegal. Console owners control what games are allowed to be released on their consoles. When a console maker moves on to the next generation they pretty much stop allowing games to be made on the older consoles. Even if somebody did make a game and tried to sell it to people they would get sued out the ---. Consumers buying hardware and collecting fees from developers is basically the only way console makers make money, so allowing stuff to be released on older systems hurts their bottom line which they would also never allow.

Now personally I believe it SHOULD be allowed. It would lower the cost to make a game allowing more Game developers to exist and make money and BUILD new Game Developing studios that could then move on to the big leagues. Not only do I believe that software should be allowed for older systems I believe the console makers should make Unity Systems that are able to play games from 2-3+ consoles from the previous generation. They could split the profits evenly.

Developers seem to always want to use the latest toys though. The entire field of game developers seem to be single mindedly focused on making the game bigger and badder based on SPECS instead of gameplay and story and content. What you are asking for, oldschool games to be made for oldschool systems, can already be done today. Its called Handhelds. The gameboy and the psp and whatever microsoft "invents" is the chance for oldschool games to be made but I have had every gameboy and the software that gets released for it is almost entirely made from shovelware. Just downright crap based off disney tv and movies or stupid minigames made by people who have no god damn idea what a video game is suppose to be about. Newbie Developers have outlets but I dont see anyone steppig up to the plate.

So even if it was allowed I dont think it would cause a revival of any of the consoles.

There are still some dreamcast games coming out. 1-2 games a year, mostly shoot-'m-ups but I think this will end some day soon.

There was a Mega Drive game released just a couple of years ago called Beggar Prince. It even had retro Mega Drive packaging. I can't give you a direct link to where it can be ordered though as i've never tried myself. A friend of mine has a copy though and its a fairly decent game!

People program games for the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, and Jaguar regularly. In most cases they get permission from the copyright holders, and Atariage.com publishes them. But some, like GORF CIassic, had to be pulled from the market. The old Atari systems have dedicated programming communities, and each of the systems gets a few games every year. Sometimes as many as five or ten. Look at this: http://songbird-productions.com/projects.shtml One man made or is making all of those games on his own.

AtariAge has published some Atari games; there've been Dreamcast shooters released; and Super Fighter Team has been localizing old Genesis/Mega Drive games, the most recent one being Legend of Wukong.
