I know it come out Friday, but I thought we would have seen some reviews by now. Either way I'm still getting it because I've already paid for it, I'm just curious as to what the critics have to say.

Considering there's nothing on Metacritic at all for the game, I'm assuming reviews are under embargo. I'm wary about when game companies do this. Are they confident in their product?
Gotta be a review embargo. Not necessarily a bad thing, many games have them both good and bad. If I recall correctly, Bethesda tends to have review embargo on their games up until release day. But I'm not really expecting booming reviews for this game anyway.

The only reason I'm getting it on day 1 is that my buddy has one of those Best Buy rewards deals. I'm only paying 40.00 bucks for it! Otherwise, I'd be picking it up used.
yeah there's a review embargo although the tv ads are out in force. bethesda do this a lot, f4 got one and so did wolfenstein the new order iirc and that wasn't too bad so might be worth not jumping to conclusions but yeah it's never breeds confidence. i'm not expecting anything stellar from the game anyway even hough i'd love it to be awesome. gagging for a new good shooter
Bethesda are known for embargo's.
They did it for FO3/ Rage/ FO:NV/ Skyrim/ Dishonored/ TEW/ W:NO/ FO4/ & now D00M.
I don't know why they do it, either as others have stated it's a confidence issue, or they just don't want early leaked information *spoilers*
Yeah, that link is basically what I was going to say. IGN said they weren't going to be receiving their review copies until tomorrow, though they'll be live streaming the game as soon as it is installed. Since they have a big presence in Australia I bet they get theirs up pretty quick.
Played it for a few hours now, it's awesome, have no idea why Bethesda didn't allow pre-release reviews.
Judging from Bethesda's last work Fallout4 and Id software's last work Rage, I don't think they are capable of delivering us a good game by now. According to concept art and screenshots that have been released, it seemed like that the developers from Doom designed in retro-futuristic way, in order to make the game look like Doom3. They've missed the point. They were making the same mistake that Halo had done.Sorry for my poor vocabulary. In brief, I think Doom is gonna to SUCK LIKE HELL.
@doom_guy666: That sounds like Doom will be the exact kinda game I wanted! I'd love to buy it but I got Uncharted 4 tying me up at the moment.
I just found 2 reviews on Doom 4.
NDTV Gadgets360.com gave it a 4/5
XgpGaming gave it a 3.9/5
Couldn't be that bad off, right? I wonder how GameSpot will review it. They were pretty generous to Uncharted 4.
Game is a blast. Obviously not anything groundbreaking but, damn...just fun.
Sometimes a really really good, well-executed vanilla ice cream is better than a good rocky road or mint chip. But it's still just vanilla.
@MarcRecon:
I don't understand either. In my case I nearly finished the game. I'm surprise the reviewer did not finish the game already and made a review.
Well ever since Gamespot was "found guilty" of taking money for positive reviews, I am sure people have been careful of not taking money...but there is no rule saying you can't pay to postpone reviews. Given how much ad revenue DOOM/Bethesda is paying to pretty much every gaming site, I would not be surprised if there was some agreement about not posting reviews for X amount of hours/days after release.
Review embargoes are common enough up until the time of release, what's to stop publishers from asking for a review embargo plus some time after release?
@mrbojangles25: That's basically what Bethesda did - they only sent out copies of the game to reviewers *after* the game launched.
It's very similar to what happened with The Division, too. Publishers have way too much control over the reviews these days.

That still doesn't make a lot of sense to me, since Bethesda games are generally well-received. Sure, there were a lot of people whining "screw Fallout 4, it's dumb and it's not even a real RPG", but the game still sold well and it got a pretty good critical reception.
I could understand if the games were TRASH. But I just fail to see the INCENTIVE for paying reviewers to not review a GOOD game even AFTER the game is available for sale. At that point, the cat's out of the bag. And the early majority opinion seems to be "it's good". So why the hell go so far as to pay actual reviewers to NOT review the game when it's already out and people are saying that it's good? I just don't see the incentive for a game company to make a good game and then pay reviewers to NOT review it even after it's been released and is accessible to everyone. What exactly is the incentive for keeping reviewers from giving your game a good review, even after the launch date has passed and most gamers are saying that the game is good?
@MrGeezer: Meh, people want what they can't have. For every person that sees there is no review and says "Fine! I guess I will just wait them out. **** Those guys!", there are probably two people that say "DAMMIT! I WANT IT NOW! Screw common sense and patience buy buy BUY!"
I got the game today. Its everything I hoped for in Doom reboot. Money well spent.
amen to that
Just finished up my journey to hell (not a spoiler! we all knew where we would go) and it was a blast.
The game just keeps getting better and better.
I'm not finding the glory kills as disruptive as people make them out to be, either; any reduction in pace they might add is greatly offset by the tactical opportunities (and aesthetic appeal of ripping a demon's head in half) afforded by them.
@doom_guy666: I thought the same thing. The review embargo combined with the fact that I had no interest in touching multiplayer pretty much made it a no go for me.
Glad I changed my stance on that one though. I watched some lets plays on friday and my brain caught fire. Single player is amazing. I picked up a copy on that cd key site for 35 bucks and am currently having an absolute blast with it. I haven't touched the multiplayer and I never will, but the single player plays like painkiller wrapped in Doom 3's skin. It's an absolutely sublime run n gun old school fps experience.
@doom_guy666: I'm playing one difficulty higher than default (Hurt me Plenty) on my first playthrough to acclimate myself with the gameplay and upgrades and so far it's providing me with a fair challenge.
The place I got my key from is here. It seems doom went up a couple of bucks since Friday but It's still a steal:

Have you tried the MP?

You got it for about the same price as I did and I feel you on the MP! But to be honest, I think I just suck at Doom's MP! lol
