Thanks, but I don't think that applies to Steam. Steam includes the developer's website link and developers are the ones controlling the price - Valve has said that they asked all publishers and developers if they want to lower the price for the holiday sale and by how much. I also remember that the guy who created Braid changed the Steam price due to fan outcry (from $20 to $15, I believe).

Yeah Steam is probably one of the exceptions since Valve has always been pretty community orientated and they probably understand it's to their advantage to support the developers who will then in turn support their service.

Dam, talk about a heate debate. Upinflames, you are quite opinionated. You say that these main companies like activision & EA have a monopoly on the video game industry. That seems like a resonable claim. The US government has made laws in the past preventing monopoly. Do you think it would help if the government made such laws?

Anyways, I think a few other people should speak their opinions. Who else thinks Pirate Bay should be shutdown or allowed to float.

Now, piracy doesnt just hit the companies. What do you think the video game developers feel?

I wouldn't call it a monopoly, but there's little doubt that the game industry is being held in the grip of a tight-knit group of big publishers. I doubt that the government can do anything about it because there's nothing illegal going on (at least on the surface).

There always be piracy. Pirate bay? Thats pretty unimportant in comparison with many other sources. As long as the game developers can script pirate protection methods, for that long there will be people that can get past them. As games are disks of data, that long they will be copied!
