Hotel Dusk, LA Noire, Sam and Max... etc. I think this genre should be expanded upon. LA Noire is one of the reasons I picked up a PS3 and Hotel Dusk is my favorite DS game to date... anyone else love the noir/detective genre?

I know you didn't mention it, but I really hope you've played the Phoenix Wright games on the DS. If not, DO IT. NOW.

I'm playing Art of Murder now and I'm loving it. Can't wait for Still Life 2 :)

I totally agree - the noir/detective theme is perfect for adventure games, and there really should be more of them.

^^ Would anyone recommend Still Life or Post Mortem? I'm currently out of adventure games and was considering buying one of these...

I've only played Justice for all, as I couldn't find the original until recently. I enjoyed it, but it didn't really win me over like Hotel Dusk did. That was definitely my GOTY for the DS.

I'll look into the games you two mentioned (adrian and plane), has anyone tried the new Sherlock Holmes game? That looked interesting, too. I'd like to see more noir/detective than just straight up mystery, but I'm desperate :P

You are right they need more detective, noir, and mystery games. I reccomend Indigo Prophecy but that the only game I can think of. And yeah LA noire looks sweet but its been in development forever hope it comes out ):

I totally agree.

Something that's been distracting me from school... a lot... is a game idea I've had. Something like a combination between an action game and Phoenix Wright. You go out, search crime scenes, bust bad guys to get info, and work things like Phoenix Wright, but with action.

Also, unlike phoenix wright, it wouldnt be totally linear, so you could do even crazy stuff, you'd lose the case but hey, it happens.

I'd also love to see some noir detectifve games in the vein of the maltese falcon. Gumshoe games, so to speak, some your classic adventure, others even action games. That would be so awesome....

Staryoshi87

I've just played through the two newest Holmes games.

The puzzles are challenging but usually quite logical - they're the best features of the games.
Unfortunately, the plots of the games are fairly dull, and neither have any mysteries...you find out what the games are about at the start, and there isn't much plot development beyond that.

They aren't bad adventure games, but there are many better games out there.

Here's what I see on the horizon for games of a detective nature (spoiler: obscure titles are in the mix :)):

Shadow of Aten - X360/PC- TBA 2008
Insecticide - DS/PC - Feb 26
LA Noire - PS3 - TBA 2008
Sam and Max Season 2 - PC - TBA 2008
A Stroke of Fate - PC - Q1 2008
The Hardy Boys and The Tower Treasure - PC - Q4 2008 (lol? =/)
Operation Checkmate - PC - Q1 2008
Any others I left out? - Most of them are straight up detective-adventure... but a few of them could be worth a go :)

Free game I just found: Fate by Numbers - http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/fatebynumbers/index.html?tag=result;title;2

Still Life is definitly worth recommending. Post Morten is more acquired taste, so try Still Life first

Mata Hari should also be out this year, although that's more of a spy-thriller.

Best case scenario Fall/Winter 2008. I hope they can squeeze it in there somehow.

I can recommend Still Life, it's a very solid game, nothing really stands out about it, but it's definitely worth playing if you're an adventure fan who likes the game's concept. Especially now that Microids has announced the sequel.

I would recommend Westwood's Blade Runner game. Way too linear, but immensely atmospheric. Still Life is decent as well.
