I guess it had to happen sooner or later, but I decided to take it upon myself to start one and to keep it going. Like Phantom_Lee with his Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV thread and DarkCataylst with his Mortal Kombat thread, I'll be able to provide the latest information on the game in this official thread of Marvel Vs Capcom 3, mainly as to what characters will be in the game. Keep in mind that I'm not going to be heavy with any kind of picture-loading, as I've seen some threads accomplish. So take this thread as one of information, just to find out more about Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and what's in store for you.

What systems will it be on?

Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds is currently scheduled to be released on Playstation 3 and XBox 360. No word yet on a Wii or PC version.

A new edition to the MVC3 series has been announced. It is called Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and this new edition is also currently scheduled to be released on Playstaion 3 and XBox 360. Again, no word yet on a Wii or PC release for now.

When will the game be released?

According to a brand-new article on Gamespot, Capcom officially announced the release date - February 15th, 2010, a day after Valentine's Day.

The game will retail for $59.99 standard and $69.99 for the collector's edition, on both systems.

Update: This is JUST A RUMOR, but it's a very strong one. According to an article at eventhubs.com, rumor has it that Capcom is making another edition to the MVC3, adding the Ultimate prefix to the title. They did confirm more plans for MvC3 and will more than likely reveal more details. If confirmed, the game is apparently scheduled to come out later this year, supposed to be $39.99, and will also apparently include more characters, including DLC characters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath. If this is confirmed, I will keep you posted!

Update #2: Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 has been confirmed and will be released in November 2011 for a low MSRP of $39.99.

Update #3: Capcom officially confirmed the release date for Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 - November 15th, 2011. You can find the official news on Eventhubs here.

Update #4: Capcom announced the release date for the PS Vita - February 22, 2012! It will also be a launch title for the PS Vita! You can see the confirmation article here.

Is there a storyline to be concerned about for Marvel Vs Capcom 3?

According to this article (scroll down on page of link to see the information), Doctor Doom, with the aid of Wesker, has assembled a team of villains powerful enough to destroy the worlds of both Marvel and Capcom. As such, it is a battle that will decide "the fate of two worlds", hence the last part of the title "Fate Of Two Worlds." From what I understand, there will be intros and endings for all characters, explaining their reason on why they are involved in this tournament and what happens to them afterwards. You can find those answers within the story mode.

What is the game all about?

Very simple. It's a fighting game that you can either play against the AI (or artificial intelligence) or against a human opponent, either locally or online. You pick three members from either the Capcom or Marvel side and dish out the pain in a multitude of ways that the game allows you to. Anytime during the match, you can swap out one fighter for another, as long as they have health. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is also the first game in the series to include three-dimensional (or 3D, for short) character models as opposed to two-dimensional sprites. The gameplay, however, is restricted to a two-dimensional (or 2D) plane, which allows the player to move their characters either foward, backward, or jump straight up into the air. Whereas Marvel Vs Capcom 2 had a control scheme of four buttons seperated as high and low attacks, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 will use a simplified, three-button control scheme of low, medium, and high attacks. There will also be an "Exchange" button in the game as well.

Exchange button? I've never heard of this! What is that about?

By pressing the Exchange button, you can launch your enemy into the air, switch characters while performing a combo, and slam the opponent into the ground, but only certain characters can utilize the latter technique.

What modes will be included in Marvel Vs Capcom 3?

Story and multiplayer modes are confirmed to be included, although how multiplayer will work as far as lobbies and chat options go are a mystery at the moment. I also would expect training mode to once again make an appearance here. As soon as more information is revealed about all the modes of play, it will be posted here!

What characters have been confirmed so far?

Like previous Marvel Vs Capcom games, there are two sides that you can play as. As of right now, the following characters have been confirmed, for both Marvel and Capcom characters.

Marvel:

Captain America
Deadpool
Doctor Doom
Dr. Strange
Dormammu
Hulk
Iron Man
Magneto
M.O.D.O.K
Phoenix
Sentinel
She-Hulk
Spider-Man
Storm
Super-Skrull
Thor
Taskmaster (Unlocked after earning 8,000 points)
Wolverine
X-23

DLC Playable (Marvel)

Shuma Gorath (Will be available to play on Ultimate MVC3)

Capcom:

Amaterasu
Akuma (Unlocked when you earn 2,000 points)
Chris Redfield
Chun-Li
C.Viper
Dante
Felicia
Hsien-Ko
King Arthur
Mike Haggar
Morrigan Aensland
Nemesis
Nathan "Rad" Spencer
Ryu
Trish
Tron Bonne
Viewtiful Joe
Wesker
Zero

DLC Playable (Capcom)

Jill Valentine

So what about Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Meta? Any new fighters we will get to play as in this edition?

YES! Thanks to rragnar, who posted a Character Overview trailer, I can now officially confirm four new fighters, two from each side. There will be up to twelve new fighters available, INCLUDING DLC characters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath. So far, we have...

Marvel:

Hawkeye
Galactus(Playable in a special mode only!)
Ghost Rider
Iron Fist
Nova
Rocket Raccoon
Shuma Gorath

Capcom:

Firebrand
Frank West
Jill Valentine
Phoenix Wright
Strider Hiryu
Vergil

Speaking of DLC, is there any that will eventually come out for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3?

I can now say that I have a concrete answer for this. This new DLC is entitled Shadow Mode and Gamespot has spilled the beans on it. You can read the information here and view screenshots of what the mode will look like, but here's the lowdown on it, word from word from the Gamespot staff...

Today, we're revealing Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Shadow Mode, which you can see in the screenshots above. Shadow Mode is downloadable content that will let you face off against a team of AI opponents modeled after the habits and tendencies of Capcom's development staff and, according to Capcom, famous players from the fighting game scene. The first Shadow Mode pack will include teams and AI from three Capcom staff members, including producer Ryota Niitsuma, associate producer Akihito Kadowaki, and a QA tester. Additionally, the first pack is scheduled for release in March with more packs becoming available for download at a later date. If you ever wanted to say you beat the producer of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at his own game, this is your best shot.

Update: The DLC for Jill Valentine and Shuma has been delayed, due to the major earthquake that happened in Japan recently. Capcom Of Japan already made an annoucement. You can see the blurb here. Capcom Of America should be making a similiar statement. When I know more about when the DLC will be available on a new date, it will be posted here!

Update 2: The DLC was only delayed in Japan. Should be available now everywhere else!

Is there any chance of a collector's edition?

As with their latest fighting games, Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, there could be a possible chance of a collector's edition happening in some form. But for now, only a standard edition will be available, which is enough, isn't it? But if there's any official information on it and where it can be pre-ordered, please let me know and I'll have that info posted.

Update: Capcom Of Europe mentioned a special edition being in the works. You can see that little blurb here. It mentions that an art book of sorts will be packaged as part of the special edition bundle. More as it comes, when they announce it!

Update 2: Gamestop has posted more details about the collector's edition. You can find both versions below.

Playstation 3
XBox 360

Pricing for the collector's edition is $69.99. If you decide to pick that one up, this is what you will get:

-Players will be able to download two playable DLC Characters — Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine, four weeks after the titled is launched.

-Steelbook case featuring exclusive art work.

-Comic/Art book- A 12-page prologue comic, written by Marvel writer Frank Tieri, plus campaign art and a curated selection of fan art.

-1-month Subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, providing unlimited online access to Marvel content.

-People who pre-order through GameStop will receive MvC3 console decals created by Fathead. Also, character cards with a move list and descriptions.

Any chance of an official Marvel Vs Capcom arcade stick coming out in time with the game?

Not at the moment, but like with the collector's editions for the two previously stated games above, there's a good chance that Madcatz and Capcom will work together on it at some point. Any information you hear, let me know!

Can we discuss the game here?

Of course you can! This is where you guys come in! Feel free to discuss anything and everything Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds! So have at it!

I was chuckling big time when I heard the remix for "Take You For A Ride"! I wonder if that will be the music theme for the character select screen! It better be!

Also, as far as the new characters goes, I'm not sure who will be included next. Today, we heard about X-23, the female crossover with the claws. Should be a fun character!

I know it sounds weird, but I highly suspect Storm Eagle as the X series representative here. I have it on good authority that he was one of the Capcom characters they had "on tap" for Tatsunoko vs Capcom to throw in and balance the roster should they have managed to pry away any more Tatsunoko licenses. It makes perfect sense if you think about it.

Anyway, I'm passing on MvC3, but I do hope you guys get the good balanced game that Niitsuma is busting his ass to make. The concept needs to be redeemed after the MvC2 debacle.

It seems that he has the least priority when it comes to Capcom crossover characters regarding Megaman, we may get X this time. And if we do I can see Roll Caskett (aka Legends' Roll) this time considering TvC had Zero from X and then classic roll. Or maybe we will get: (heaven for bid but) Megaman.exe...I hope not but you know Capcom

And it looks like they are doing a good job of it so far, but we won't know that for certain until we play the game ourselves.

That said, I'm only interested in MvC3 on a casual basis, not on a competitive basis, so I hope the game turns out to be a lot of fun in the end!

It was either Seth Killian or Niitsuma himself.

Blade would be awesome to have as part of the Marvel roster. I could definitely see him as part of my team if they create him just right.

Yeah, I could've sworn it was Nitsuma that ruled him out. That doesn't mean that Mega Man is also ruled out too. If they included Tron Bonne, then it's possible that they bring Mega Man back into the fold too!

And as for Marvel...I'm kinda hoping they put Doctor Strange in the game.

I wouldn't necessarily call MvC a good series, but that's just me. I just think it's a series for a good time, but ultimately, I don't like it as much due to how the game meant to be all flash and no substance, as the previous two games already proven to me. Still, it can be fun with friends for a couple of hours or even a whole day or weekend, but...good series? In my opinion, not really. But to each their own!

I want Jedah! I would also like to see Vanessa Z. Schneider, Strider, Havok, Blink, Apocalypse, Archangel (Death version), and B.B. Hood.

I really hope that they don't add anymore mega man characters and I still don't like the inclusion of Viewtiful Joe. :?

Sir Arthur and Nathan "Rad" Spencer confirmed for MVC3

Hi,
We just announced two new characters for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds at New York Comic Con 2010.
Sir Arthur, the brave knight from Ghost 'n Goblins, is charging in with his full arsenal of cIassic goodies. And if that wasn't crazy enough, Nathan "Rad" Spencer is swinging in for some combat action and he's bringing his ever-useful bionic arm with him for a little show and tell. Other Capcom comrades will include Wesker, Tron Bonne, Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Dante, Ryu, Morrigan, Chris Redfield, Felicia, Trish and Chun-Li.

That is cool.

Arthur looks like a lot of fun to play. Definitely a keep away character judging from the vid. I wonder how the armor mechanics work.

Love the banter between Rad Spencer and Iron Man.

Arthur looks like a lot of fun to play. Definitely a keep away character judging from the vid. I wonder how the armor mechanics work.

King9999

Arthur may end up being a great choice for my team. From the looks of that video, he definitely seems like a character that can be played through zoning and up close, both offensively and defensively. Could work very well to my advantage!

Here's some more new information I found on Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 over at Eventhubs. Link is here if you wish to read it yourself.

Capcom staff members, Ryota Niitsuma and Seth Killian, dished some interesting Marvel vs. Capcom 3 details at New York Comic-Con 2010.

This post offers a recap of their statements about topics ranging from the upcoming Fight Club to balance details for the game. There's a lot of information packed into this one post, so it's been separated into sections to make it easier to digest.

Keep in mind that Niitsuma's commentary was given through a translator, so it's possible some things got lost in the conversion process.

Gameplay info and modes
• Tag ins are much faster than they were in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and are now overhead attacks (must be blocked high). You can't really combo after connecting with a tag in, but there may be some exceptions to this.

• As previously mentioned, tag ins are still performed by holding one of the Assist buttons.

• There will be a Trials (Challenges) mode in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, similar to the one that was in Super Street Fighter 4. While SSF4's trials were very difficult, MvC3's will be geared towards getting players familiar with the characters and preparing them to play against other people.

• The game no longer shows the amount of damage done in combos. The team wanted to keep MvC3 more like MvC2, and when they had the damage numbers in there, it just didn't feel right, so they took them out.

• The developers have expanded the ability to combo after throwing your opponent. This isn't overly easy to do, but it's more common now than it was before.

• Some of the cast members do not have levels 3 Supers right now, but they all have three different Supers. It's still being decided if everyone will get a Level 3 or not.

• There will be taunts in the game, every character has one so far. These are performed by pressing the Select button.

• Complete button configuration is available, like in every Capcom fighting game, so you can layout your buttons however you want. One of the defaults you can select is an MvC2-**** layout.

• The MvC3 character balancing process is handled by the Battle Director, primarily, but he also consults with Niitsuma-san and Capcom USA staff, including Seth Killian, to get input on balancing the game.

Characters and misc. details
• Some of the character models have been improved since you first saw them in-game. Characters like Dante and Deadpool were fairly far along when they were shown, but others have received numerous touch ups.

• Niitsuma said he doesn't like to deconfirm characters because he doesn't want to say that a character won't be in the game when they may end up being in there after all. Also, deconfirming characters could lead to knowing the roster through a process of elimination.

• Capcom never had plans to add in any Monster Hunter characters to MvC3. Marvel had some characters that were off the table from the very start, but this is a contract thing and Niitsuma couldn't elaborate on it.

• The original proposal from Capcom was to have Stan Lee in the game, but Marvel is handling that side of things, so Niitsuma wasn't sure if he'd show up.

Simple Mode
• Seth Killian very much emphasized that Simple Mode won't give an advantage to expert players. Balance was definitely a concern when they were creating this, so Capcom has designed it so that it cannot be abused by people who know what they're doing.

• An example Seth gave is that Dante has around 40 special moves, in Simple Mode he has access to 4 of them. Simple Mode only has one Super per character as well.

• Simple Mode will be available online. You might be able to block people who are using it though, but this hasn't been decided yet.

• One of the reasons Simple Mode was added to the game is that some fighters were difficult to play, so they added in a mode so even new players could jump in and try these characters out.

Future plans and next MvC3 Fight Club
• Capcom will have the next Fight Club at a location they've never hosted one at before. Seth is 90% sure that Wesker, Tron Bonne, Spider-man and X-23 will be playable there. This event will happen on October 28, 2010.

• Once the console versions of MvC3 are complete, they'll consider doing a arcade port of the game. Again, they're only going to consider it — it may not happen.

• They're looking into making a Collector's Edition for both the USA and Japan.

• A demo is still up in the air at this point.

X-Factor System
• Seth warned that the X-Factor system has been one of those things that is constantly changing, so keep in mind a lot of this stuff could be different by the time the game is released.

• When you activate X-Factor, the game takes into account how much life you have with your remaining player(s). It's more powerful if you use it when all of your other characters are dead, as the less life you have the longer it lasts.

• Also, X-Factor gradually restores your Red (regenerable) portion of life.

• It cannot be activated while you're getting hit, which is unlike the Mega Crash system in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

• You can Cancel your own move with X-Factor, it returns you to a neutral state where you can pull off combos that wouldn't otherwise be possible. An example used was Canceling Iron Man's Proton Cannon Hyper and then going into another Proton Cannon Hyper.

• X-Factor works the same for all of the characters — there are no unique properties depending on who you activate it with.

Music and voices

• The 'Take You For a Ride' song is officially back.

• As previously mentioned, the dialogue the characters speak will change depending on the situation and which teammates you choose.

• Marvel characters will only have English voice actors, but users can select between Japanese and English voices for the Capcom fighters.

• An external team outside of Capcom is creating the music for this game. This team used to work on Capcom games, but is now their own outlet. The person in charge of X-23's song didn't work for Capcom, but was asked to do work for SSF4.

Dante is broken..........

The X-factor moves in this game are supposed to be stupid easy to use. I hate to say it but I think we have yet another fighting game getting dumbed down.

Firstly, there's not a shred of evidence to suggest this game is being "dumbed down" at all. Like SF4, there is a push to make this game broadly accessible while maintaining a deeper level of play for the hardcore.

Secondly, calling a character broken in a fighting game that is still heavily entrenched in development is nonsensical. Right now, in current form, I'm willing to bet there are a number of things broken and a number of characters radically unbalanced, which is entirely understandable given that we won't see this game released for another six months. Issues like balance and overpowered characters are elements that are addressed and tweaked consistently throughout development so calling Dante "broken" is disingenuous. You can't refer to an element in the game as broken when the entire project is still very much in pieces.

Also, when you allude to other fighting games being simplified, what are you specifically referring to? SFIV and SSFIV are anything but casually gimped, Tekken 6 and SCIV are likewise very much in the same vein as their predecessors and VF5 retains as steep a learning curve as the previous iterations. Even newer entries into the genre, like Blaze Blue, are actually incredibly deep and nuanced fighters.

As far as this genre goes, I'm really not seeing a casual-related decline. If anything, MvC3 looks to be far better balanced than MvC2.
