I guess it had to happen sooner or later, but I decided to take it upon myself to start one and to keep it going. Like Phantom_Lee with his Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV thread and DarkCataylst with his Mortal Kombat thread, I'll be able to provide the latest information on the game in this official thread of Marvel Vs Capcom 3, mainly as to what characters will be in the game. Keep in mind that I'm not going to be heavy with any kind of picture-loading, as I've seen some threads accomplish. So take this thread as one of information, just to find out more about Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and what's in store for you.
What systems will it be on?
Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds is currently scheduled to be released on Playstation 3 and XBox 360. No word yet on a Wii or PC version.
A new edition to the MVC3 series has been announced. It is called Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and this new edition is also currently scheduled to be released on Playstaion 3 and XBox 360. Again, no word yet on a Wii or PC release for now.
When will the game be released?
According to a brand-new article on Gamespot, Capcom officially announced the release date - February 15th, 2010, a day after Valentine's Day.
The game will retail for $59.99 standard and $69.99 for the collector's edition, on both systems.
Update: This is JUST A RUMOR, but it's a very strong one. According to an article at eventhubs.com, rumor has it that Capcom is making another edition to the MVC3, adding the Ultimate prefix to the title. They did confirm more plans for MvC3 and will more than likely reveal more details. If confirmed, the game is apparently scheduled to come out later this year, supposed to be $39.99, and will also apparently include more characters, including DLC characters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath. If this is confirmed, I will keep you posted!
Update #2: Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 has been confirmed and will be released in November 2011 for a low MSRP of $39.99.
Update #3: Capcom officially confirmed the release date for Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 - November 15th, 2011. You can find the official news on Eventhubs here.
Update #4: Capcom announced the release date for the PS Vita - February 22, 2012! It will also be a launch title for the PS Vita! You can see the confirmation article here.
Is there a storyline to be concerned about for Marvel Vs Capcom 3?
According to this article (scroll down on page of link to see the information), Doctor Doom, with the aid of Wesker, has assembled a team of villains powerful enough to destroy the worlds of both Marvel and Capcom. As such, it is a battle that will decide "the fate of two worlds", hence the last part of the title "Fate Of Two Worlds." From what I understand, there will be intros and endings for all characters, explaining their reason on why they are involved in this tournament and what happens to them afterwards. You can find those answers within the story mode.
What is the game all about?
Very simple. It's a fighting game that you can either play against the AI (or artificial intelligence) or against a human opponent, either locally or online. You pick three members from either the Capcom or Marvel side and dish out the pain in a multitude of ways that the game allows you to. Anytime during the match, you can swap out one fighter for another, as long as they have health. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is also the first game in the series to include three-dimensional (or 3D, for short) character models as opposed to two-dimensional sprites. The gameplay, however, is restricted to a two-dimensional (or 2D) plane, which allows the player to move their characters either foward, backward, or jump straight up into the air. Whereas Marvel Vs Capcom 2 had a control scheme of four buttons seperated as high and low attacks, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 will use a simplified, three-button control scheme of low, medium, and high attacks. There will also be an "Exchange" button in the game as well.
Exchange button? I've never heard of this! What is that about?
By pressing the Exchange button, you can launch your enemy into the air, switch characters while performing a combo, and slam the opponent into the ground, but only certain characters can utilize the latter technique.
What modes will be included in Marvel Vs Capcom 3?
Story and multiplayer modes are confirmed to be included, although how multiplayer will work as far as lobbies and chat options go are a mystery at the moment. I also would expect training mode to once again make an appearance here. As soon as more information is revealed about all the modes of play, it will be posted here!

Speaking of DLC, is there any that will eventually come out for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3?
I can now say that I have a concrete answer for this. This new DLC is entitled Shadow Mode and Gamespot has spilled the beans on it. You can read the information here and view screenshots of what the mode will look like, but here's the lowdown on it, word from word from the Gamespot staff...
Today, we're revealing Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Shadow Mode, which you can see in the screenshots above. Shadow Mode is downloadable content that will let you face off against a team of AI opponents modeled after the habits and tendencies of Capcom's development staff and, according to Capcom, famous players from the fighting game scene. The first Shadow Mode pack will include teams and AI from three Capcom staff members, including producer Ryota Niitsuma, associate producer Akihito Kadowaki, and a QA tester. Additionally, the first pack is scheduled for release in March with more packs becoming available for download at a later date. If you ever wanted to say you beat the producer of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at his own game, this is your best shot.
Update: The DLC for Jill Valentine and Shuma has been delayed, due to the major earthquake that happened in Japan recently. Capcom Of Japan already made an annoucement. You can see the blurb here. Capcom Of America should be making a similiar statement. When I know more about when the DLC will be available on a new date, it will be posted here!
Update 2: The DLC was only delayed in Japan. Should be available now everywhere else!
Is there any chance of a collector's edition?
As with their latest fighting games, Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, there could be a possible chance of a collector's edition happening in some form. But for now, only a standard edition will be available, which is enough, isn't it? But if there's any official information on it and where it can be pre-ordered, please let me know and I'll have that info posted.
Update: Capcom Of Europe mentioned a special edition being in the works. You can see that little blurb here. It mentions that an art book of sorts will be packaged as part of the special edition bundle. More as it comes, when they announce it!
Update 2: Gamestop has posted more details about the collector's edition. You can find both versions below.
Playstation 3
XBox 360
Pricing for the collector's edition is $69.99. If you decide to pick that one up, this is what you will get:
-Players will be able to download two playable DLC Characters — Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine, four weeks after the titled is launched.
-Steelbook case featuring exclusive art work.
-Comic/Art book- A 12-page prologue comic, written by Marvel writer Frank Tieri, plus campaign art and a curated selection of fan art.
-1-month Subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, providing unlimited online access to Marvel content.
-People who pre-order through GameStop will receive MvC3 console decals created by Fathead. Also, character cards with a move list and descriptions.
Any chance of an official Marvel Vs Capcom arcade stick coming out in time with the game?
Not at the moment, but like with the collector's editions for the two previously stated games above, there's a good chance that Madcatz and Capcom will work together on it at some point. Any information you hear, let me know!
Can we discuss the game here?
Of course you can! This is where you guys come in! Feel free to discuss anything and everything Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds! So have at it!
