I recently went down to my local game store and bought Assassins Creed Brotherhood. I loved the game and playing through the story was pretty good. My only complaint about the whole Assassins Creed series is I despise the whole viewing memories through a beefed up DNA analyzer thing. I think it could work better in a different game like a sci fi game but not one like this. The storyline of an Assassin fighting the templars back in the 15th century is way more exciting then saving the world from 2012 by finding pieces of eden. Luckily with Brotherhood you aren't forced to leave the animus and talk to dezmonds gang throughout most of the game. Also with the last 2 games i managed to tolerate the endings because they seriously through me a curveball. Unfortunately Brotherhood doesn't deliver, in fact i was disappointed, there was one exciting thing that somewhat caught me off guard at the end but I won't spoil for any readers. The main point is I honestly think that the series might benefit if Assassins Creed was only about Altair and Ezio, not Dezmond and his companions. I'd really like to know if the story seems somewhat dumb to everyone else or if its just me.

It's really, really silly. That being said, the actual atmosphere of the places you get to visit is really great. The plot just sucks, both in the present and in the past.

What I like about the Assassins Creed games are the expanded story that takes place in the form of Templar Reports and Glyphs, it gives the series room to move, Such as the 'true' story of Famous Historical Figures like Jesus and Hitler possessing Various Pieces of Eden giving an alternate view of Historical Events.

You liked those parts? I thought they were the most laughable. And the puzzles were such a waste of time! I guess this is just where we differ, but the whole conspiracy plot angle doesnt really do anything for me.

I'm not that big of a conspiracy guy. The whole 2 factions at war for all history is kinda cliche, and the modern storyline isn't really any better. Also one thing I disliked about AC2 was the database. You had to read alot of it to understand the plot. I was lost the whole time about why I was killing this guy or that one. The fact that you had to read so much to understand it was kinda lame. Other games use this feature, but pull it off better. For instance, the Resident Evil games. There were documents to read, but weren't neccesary to understanding the plot. Instead, they provided backstory that enhanced the main storyline. So far in ACB I'm getting it pretty well. However, the overarcing story line of the games like the aliens and stuff just doesn't appeal to me. It's deifinitley one of those games I play for gameplay and atmosphere.

I like the parts about Ezios life, like when you are just chilling with his brother or when you are doing stuff to help out his family, I kinda tune out when Drake starts talking,

It's all pretty naff. The historical stuff is boring as hell (Ezio baby-sits everyone and Altair is oblivious to life because he's an emotionless git). I get the feeling Ubisoft just want to show off that they did some historical research. And Desmond's story is so underdeveloped and overshadowed by the tedium of the rest of the games that it feels like there is no point to it. The only redeeming part of the story is Subject 16. The whole idea of part of a man's data being stuck in a machine due to hiding files in the animus is awesome. And I feel there is so much more to Subject 16 than we know, especially after listening back to some of the things he says in AC2

Assassins Creed would be MUCH better without the sci-fi storyline. The storyline about a secretive assasins guild that spans throughout the ages (Biblical-Medieval-Modern Day Times) would be much better IMO.

Please enlighten us then! If the Assassin's Creed series was in your capable series, how would YOU make the plot and everything about the series better?

I think it's one of the best storylines of this gen. It's a wonderful break from the usual post-apocalyptic, space battle, military battle nonsense that most popular titles have. I'm big on stories that have MYSTERY and this is one of the best. It was the only thing I liked about Ass Creed 1 and the only reason I played the sequel.

I agree, I've been very drawn to all of the stories in Assassin's Creed so far. And without spoiling it for anyone, I was surprised about the ending of Brotherhood and it'll keep guessing until AC3 comes along. Assassin's Creed (in my opinion) is one of the better games all together in this generation. The freedom it gives you is amazing and there is so much to do that it'll keep you busy for hours and hours.

I think that after the Mass Effect series, it's the best storyline this gen. Crazy? Yes. Silly? Sure, why not. It still works. It gives the the story multiple layers, setting and charaters. While I didn't like concept of the animus at the first Assassin's Creed, it was put to far better use in AC2 and Brotherhood, thanks to The Truth (probably my favorite part from ACII) and the option to quit and interact with the characters in Brotherhood. Can't wait for AC3.

I believe, Brotherhood did an amazing job on the story line. What I can say about the first game is, that I was extremely disappointed at the ending of the first game. I didn't play games for a week, that's how upset I was :(

I haven't played Brotherhood yet, but the story in this series is awesome. It's up there with Mass Effect in my opinion. However, as much I loved how AC 2's revealed that the universe is in danger with the introduction of Minerva and a secret past/futuristic society, it kinda ruined the mystery for me. I thought the pieces of Eden and their powers were something mystical, not the creation of some long dead gods. Its kinda hard to explain. With that said, I'm looking forward to playing Brotherhood, and impatiently waiting for AC 3 to be released.

I think it's a load of pseudo-intellectual tosh, and the gameplay isn't much better.

I think Assassin's Creed has one of the best plots right now. I loved the ending of AC2, it's cool how it's related to 2012 and other species who lived here. It's a deep story, glad it isn't about just stopping some evil douche of the templars. That would just be boring.

I think the whole alien thing is really contrived. It just doesn't really seem to fit with the whole Assassin thing. Honestly, I would be perfectly content to have just a storyline about Assassins vs Templars. But, I play the games primarily for the gameplay, so, yeah...

Did you honestly think that it would stay in the past forever? The aliens thing I don't think has anything to do with it, but sooner or later, it's gonna catch up to the present and people will have to play as Desmond as he uses his newly-gained Assassin skills to fend off the templars. That's the idea that Ubisoft is going with. Again, the aliens thing? No such thing in my mind - Minerva isn't an alien, as far as I'm concerned, and neither are any of the "gods" in the game.

I'm predicting that AC3 will be all about Desmond finding the temples that can save the world or whatever. I'm probably going to miss the past, cause I enjoy the animus sequences and story much more than the present day story... then again, the animus will probably be worked in somehow, judging by the voices during the credits of Brotherhood.

That's how I see AC3 being played out myself. It's a huge build up for Desmond to finally unleash his newly-acquired skills in a modern city of sorts against the Templars. Maybe some new guns will come into play too - nothing like what we've seen in AC2 and Brotherhood. Of course, I'm also hearing the game heading to a different part of Europe as well. For now, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That'd definitley be interesting, it's just that the game would lose alot of its charm. Ezio gave the last 2 AC games alot of personality (I thought he was still quite charming in Brotherhood), but I really don't care for Desmond's storyline. And, I'm afraid of it becoming a third person shooter, if it involves guns like you said. I just can't see it being as good as AC2 and ACB, but, hey, I've been surprised before.

Just about every videogame that deals with villians in general has to do with ending the world. And you're still wrong - they aren't aliens from another world. Period.

Actually, as far as we know, I don't think the possibility that they are aliens has been ruled out. And the concept is not totally out there. Apparently the Sumerians believed that humanity was a race engineered by beings from another world to work the land...and this really doesn't sound all that different from the role humanity plays in the mythology of AC.

It's been suspected that the next "god" we will meet in the series will be Jupiter (aka Zeus) because Juno, Minerva, and Jupiter form the Capitoline Triad of Rome. Of course, it's possible that if we were to meet another of "Those that came before" it will not be a Roman "god" at all. It might be that the only reason we meet Juno is because we were still dealing with Ezio, whose journey takes place within what would have been the geographical sphere of influence of the Roman pantheon.

See, according to the game lore, figures like Minerva and Juno are overseers/slavemasters of the human population during the age of Those that came before.

(Tangent: They are very much mortal and infact some of them interbred with humans, which is what produced the line of assassin's who are the hybrids of these "gods" and humans. These human/"god" hybrids actually would spell the doom of Those that came before because they were born with an immunity to the effects of the POE's and are the ones that started that ancient war. )

Our mythologies are actually based on this time where humans served as slaves. And the "gods" of these mythologies are nothing more than the names of the very mortal ancient overseers that ran the human populations in a given area. However as time passes, truth becomes hyperbole as mankind struggles to comprehend the advanced technology of Those that came before, wrongly attributing it to magic and godhood rather thantechnological advancement...and then more time passes and hyperbole becomes fairy tale and we remember Jupiter as a guy tossing around lightning bolts when in fact he was nothing more than a foreman of a technologically advanced civilization on what was essentially a jobsite worked by unsophisticated apes.

So, they could be aliens but they are most definitely not gods.

i like it, is original, and anything original is good in my eyes thanks to the lack of imagination these days, everything is a remake, copy or sequel.

the story is good, doesn't matter if you like it or not, most people do. And yes, they are aliens, you'd know that if you actually payed attention to the game, ever since ac 1 they point to that and the fact that you will be playing desmond in modern days
