Hello, Fellow Readers

i am 12 years old and i love playing CS:GO "Counter Strike:Global Offensive". i am obsessed about it but i always get the grades i am needed to get. i am getting 80% in my tests at all time and never under. My parents think it is a waste of time. i really wish they know and care about what i want to be when i grow up, they want me to be something i don't want. i want to be something like a software engineer but they want me to become like an architect or a doctor but that is just not my thing.... Whenever i play CSGO they hit me or yell at me for playing... i am now very pissed because i can't leave one of my hobbies i love, i obviously excercise, and i also do my daily prayers. I don't know what else to do. i want to live my own life. Yes Gaming does take up some time but i limit myself of 3-4 hours per day and i never play an hour.... :( i do my chores and everything for them but that isn't enough! They also hate the violence but i turn off the blood and stuff but they still don't care. They think the Terrorist is Muslims which is not true but you know, they always believe that so ye.... .-.

Does your parents let you play games?????

Well the only thing you can do is to keep at it and I mean, keep up with the good grades, your best behaviour, discipline etc etc.

You're only 12, you are about to enter a phase that will bring a LOT of changes to your life and the challenges. Its no joke so understand that your parents are understandable nervous and anxious.

In time, as you grow older, your parents may one day see and think "hey, my son is growing up ok..." then they will trust you more. But its important that you keep up with what you're doing and never NEVER let your gaming hobby take over your life. Its very very easy to cross that line so be careful.

What rollermint said. Just be a good kid. Once puberty hits your parents are going to become even more annoying, so be prepared for that. Your parents sound like the typical ignorant people who have zero hands on experience with videogames and base all their arguments on stereotypes and speculation, but they're your parents, so they can afford to be ignorant and stubborn. You'll just have to put up with it and keep proving to them that videogames have no adverse effect on what your parents think is the proper way for you to live your life.

Some day you will have your own job and money and you can play whatever you want. Until that time you're kind of stuck. I recommend taking some classes in computer/software programming to see if you really like it. Once you get to college age, it gets really expensive to change your mind. Also, your parents shouldn't be hitting you over a game, especially if they're so "anti-violence"; sounds a bit hypocritical if you ask me.

Don't you have to be 13 to even create an account on GS?

Wait, wait, wait.... Your parents HIT you? That's not okay man... I'm not saying call Child Protective Services on them (unless it's really bad), but I would confront them about the physical abuse and use it as leverage saying it's far worse than your "just pretend" video game violence.

You say they hate violence yet they bring in domestic violence into their home by hitting their child (you)? That's just hypocritical. Call them out on that. You will probably catch hell for it, but it's best to confront these sort of things and stand up for yourself.

Bottom line, you can't let them abuse you like that. Not only is it not morally right, it's illegal.

Not sure how much of your comment is taken out-of-context.

However_

I think you're at an age in which being active is very important, sure you can play video games, but is doing little chores enough activity? Simple answer, no.

Don't make gaming a life style. Especially at such a young age, it's unhealthy and will likely make you anti-social.

Focus on your studies and play with friends in the fresh air. And only when you've had a good dish of both, should you consider playing a video game.

That's just my opinion. On a personal note when I was your age I was lucky enough to get one hour a week with a computer game. Made that one hour, that much more enjoyable :)

@RSM-HQ: So, basically, don't play video games, except rarely, and go outside? What fun!

Let him do what he wants.

I completely agree with this guy right here.Confront them about it. It's not right in any way shape or form.

Now, to the OP. As for playing video games OP, I would suggest just to keep at it. Don't give up and finally get it through their heads. I remember when I was about twelve, and I wasn't allowed to play anything other than E and E10+ rated games. No joke. Then I was thirteen and I wasn't allowed to play Mature rated games, but I could play Teen rated. Then I was fourteen, and then I could basically play whatever I wanted. Don't let your parents dictate what you should and shouldn't do. And, no offense, but your parents seem like complete assholes.

Perhaps read what I stated instead of picking one aspect, and respond with sarcasm like an immature person.

The kids 12 years old. It's an important time for someone to find themselves, and you won't do that sinking multiple hours a day in a computer game.

"Let him do what he wants"

. . . Yeah, maybe every minor should do as they like. Cross busy roads, eat chocolate constantly, run away from home /sarcasm.

Never did I force my view on him, but like every reply, is a suggestion. He wouldn't of made a thread if he didn't want an honest answer.

@RSM-HQ: So, playing video games is considered "not finding himself"? BS. If he enjoys video games and technology, then so be it. Who cares? Why does going outside and playing outside have to be "finding yourself"? You're making no sense.

And, this is a matter of responsibly playing video games. He's not stuffing himself full of chocolate, skipping school, doing drugs. He's playing video games in his spare time, so yes, let him do what he wants.

Unfortunately, children under the age of 13 are not permitted on the boards. Locking
