My collection is full of games i own. I usually keep a drawer with 50 or so of the most recent games i've been playing and i put the rest in the attic or basement.
I go to random people's profiles and check their game collections. I see some people with around 300-500 games and I'm just curious. Do yall REALLY have all those games or what? Do you just put up the games that you've played or like? For those with hundreds of games in their collection lemme ask you this? Why the hell do you spend so much paying for games OR why do you lie about you're collection? Or are you just very spoiled? Oh and I know that you're gonna check out MY profile to look at my collection since I'm on the subject :P I'ts not complete. Im about to just add every game I've played :DXalenite
Not all gamespotters are kids, ya know?
Well, I'm 28, have a full time job, and my game collection is full of stuff that I've accumulated since I started gaming...in 1981. It's pretty easy to accumulate a collection of nearly 600 titles in 26 years. And yes, I have everything I claim to have. Here is an old pic...
It's actually a bit dated. I have another shelving unit about 1/3 full.
Alot of us with that many games are adults who have been collecting since we are kids or perhaps started collecting later in life, but love games and have the means to buy them. I haven't spent serious time with all my games, but most of them I have or have bought with the intention of spending a good chunk of time with. Also, it isn't like I, or other collectors, buy these games all at $40 -$60. In fact, Id say most of my purchases are made at the $20 or under range. I still spenda good chunk of change on them, but I look at other hobbies people I know spend money on, such as golf, and what I spend on games pales in comparison to that. Ultimately, I like the idea that I always have a number of games on hand that I'd love to play, plus usually the amount of money Id get from selling a game doesn't offset the value of owning it for the chance I may pick it up again down the line.
Edit: In the vein of JollyRoger's post, here is a picture of my collection. If you are ever interested in seeing some people who's collections put mine to shame, take a look at the Candid Collector's Union.
My boyfriend has 600+ videogames. He collects them and hasn't played all of them. He's found 51 games, plus a system for a little more than a hundred dollars. He's found great prices for games, especially games under 10 dollars. ayanami_rei
A place with games under 10 dollars? Please share!

nice collection I havent been around long enough to have or to accumulate that much money to buy the games. lol
Damn I feel so broke having less than 100 games... Xalenite
And by the way, a 2+ year old game could easily go for under 10 dollars used. Generally older=less expensive. I saw a copy of Gran Turismo 3 for CAN $3.99.

Well, it all depends on the game. Around my area, Chrono Trigger(SNES cartridge) sells for $60 to 70 in trade-in stores and online I have seen it go around $100 (haven't checked in a long time though).
I think that plenty of collections are padded and some people's lists are a total crock.
"Adjusting" your collection is nothing new here.
I admit that I dropped a couple of bad games from my list to get my connoisseur
badge back.
I also have WOW and the expansion on my list for the same reason although they
were gifts and I have no intention of opening the boxes let alone playing them.
I like to think most people have an honest representation of their stuff.
I don't find it that difficult to believe lots of people have 200 or more games and
that some have massive collections just not the numbers of people that say they
do on here.
It's been a long time since I have had a PC capable of running games.
A year ago I built a high end rig and bought a good Laptop that runs most stuff well.
I don't have that many games yet but it's not too difficult to see how I could easily
have WAY more in just a few years now that my interest has been rekindled.
I look at my 500+ DVD collection and it's not that hard to see it happening.
I think for every one person that honestly has the 500+ games on their list there is at
least one other person that is lying about it. Just my opinion.
If you see a persons collection crosses several generations and systems it's far more
likely to be ligit then one that says they have every single 360 game ever made.
Games just tend to accumulate over a number of years.
Buy one game a week for 10 years, that's 520 games. Or one game every two weeks for 20 years.
A lot of them may also be extremely inexpensive, used game purchases.
I personally feel that you are being rude with your opening post but that's just me.
In any case, yes I own over 100 games and these are games that I bought with my own money. I joined Gamespot right around the time I got my very first job back in high school. So that's when I started making my list of games I own. Those were the days in Gamespot but that's a totally different story. If I added all the games I have owned in my entire life, I could very easily throw in 100 more games to the list.
Atari 2600 - 5+ games
NES - 10+ games
SNES - 40+ games
Game Gear - 5+ games
GB - A little under 10 games
GBC - A little under 10 games
PSOne - 35+ games
Saturn - 40+ games
Old PC - A little under 10 games
Dreamcast - 15+ games

Oh Im sorry I really didnt mean to be rude in any way. I was meant to be sarcastic/funny. I thought people would get it after that emoticon I put. Sorry again mate. No hard feelings?
I'm contemplating whether in the future I want to be a collector, or sell off games to buy new ones. I'm in a weird place at the moment cos I own a video store; I own an Xbox 360, but I technically don't own any games personally cos I take them home from the shop. I expect to be out of the business within the next 12 months, and I guess my means at that time will dictate which path I head down.

Im about to just add every game I've played :DXaleniteI don´t have many games, I could have more but sometimes you simply can hold to your old systems and games. I´ve been playing since the 2600 days and have played every console since, but I have had to let go of them because of moving abroad or for not having space for them. My game collection list the games I currently OWN in the present, not all played or owned during the years, the list could reach the hundreds otherwise, it´s just silly to list stuff that you don´t actually own. And by your own words: your game collection is not really yours, it´s a shared collection with freinds and family member. What´s up with that?!?! Isn´t that lying as well. As a side note, anyone who list mobile phone games as part of their collection is just not right. Bargain bins and second hand games are the best options to increase your game collection.
Started listing my games then realized I couldn't do it. There's games I've even forgotten I ever played, plus I'm always giving promotional copies of games away to family and friends.nopalversion
'Promotional copies'? Whats your profession, nopalversion? Do you write for something VG-based? If so, rad.
Me, I've never been a collector. I only had SMB, Tetris and Nintendo World Soccer for the NES (I rented a lot). Never owned an SNES/PSone/Sega-anything (why should I pay for something I can get at my neighbour's for free?:D) only got into gaming fully during the N64 years. Sold N64 and games to buy a new TV and GC. Got a few GB/GBC/GBA games, but not nearly as many as I'd like. I'm not planning on sellling any of the games I currently own, though (GC/PS2/DS/GBA). So maybe I'll seriously start collecting when I start my new job and earn some green.

how many console have you owned
mine are in double figures but not that many thats just to much
I don't know how many games I own; not as many as some in this thread but I think my games list here is inaccurate as my number is probably closer to 200. I've only bought a few in the last couple years too. I'll just echo what others have said -- if you get older and get a job that pays enough to support the hobby and don't sell/get rid of your games, your collection's going to get pretty large.
A better question for us with all those games is if we've actually finished them all. I know I haven't, and there's a few I haven't loaded up more than once or twice :D

Currently I have around 20 consoles (I'm not sure of the exact count...I obtained Shinobi for the Sega Master System awhile back and don't have the box to play it on). Everything is hooked up except the Atari 7800 (missing some pieces), Channel F (needs to be repaired), and TRS-80 (haven't gotten around to messing with it much yet).
I started collecting in 1999 when the Dreamcast came out and I have around 1,350 games, not counting duplicates etc.. so it is definately possible. Check out this thread though, there are people on this site that have way more than I do. Everyone in this thread has been validated through pictures and questioning:
