Best. FPS. EVER. Period. Just think about it, in N64..... over 50 maps over 30 weapons All guns had 2 functions (my favorites were laptop gun and guided missiles) Actual Bots to multiplayer with. up to 16 fighters (4players+12 Bots) IN ONE MAP.......all other games had 4 maximum. better graphics out of the other FPS games with the expansion pack requirement in the N64 And it DID have better gameplay than GoldenEye because it had Goldeneye's weapons and maps......and more.TheBigBadGRIM
This is my point. This game just simply outdid every other game when it came to effort and quality. It pushed the N64 to its limits and then some. Hell, it's rare even today console games have bots. Perfect Dark even let you customize your own character and it'll give you all of your stats and everything. You could play the entire game coop or counter-coop, or all the challenges, etc.
No game has ever been done like this. It's arguably the largest FPS game ever released. If the N64 had online multiplayer, they probably would've went all the way and made some psuedo-RPG online like Call of Duty 4.
Its a damn good game, but I wouldn't call it the best game ever. Caddy06_88
Then sir, i wouldnt call you my friend
Oh, thats right!! I forgot all about COUNTER-COOP!! It's probably the ONLY game ever to do this, even now in next-gen games. Have one guy play the main character and another guy plays one of the bad guys.TheBigBadGRIM
This was the coolest thing. Too bad none of my friends knew how to play the game so I'd always win.
I'm a HUGE Halo fan, and I still say that Perfect Dark was the best FPS ever created. It invented or perfected soo many things.
Counter Co-op was amazing, the Farsight was cheap :P, The Laptop gun is still one of my favs. It actually had bots, and some decently intelligent ones as well. Soo many weapons and maps.
Now if they had just run a spell checker on the map's names... :P

Agreed.
I totally agree goldeneye is untouchable as far as console FPS's go

Agreed.
You're right. Less options, shorter single player, less weapons, preset weapon configurations, less maps, inconsistent level design, and no voice-acting sure is better. :P
Face it, Rare took Goldeneye, perfected it, and released it as "Perfect Dark". They took their own FPS formula and perfected it their second try.

Have to agree here. There are many other games I have enjoyed more, though Perfect Dark was a great game.

I had much more fun with GoldenEye than Perfect Dark...
[QUOTE="shearMario"]I think goldeneye was bettersniper_99
I agree. In terms of gameplay Perfect Dark was ALOT better. In terms of storyline I'd have to say Goldeneye was way way better
Goldeneye didn't even have a coherent plot. It was based on the movie (and very loosely).
While I certainly wouldn't call it the best game ever, I wouldn't even call it the best shooter ever. However best Nintendo 64 game? Yes, most certainly. A lot of people say that Goldeneye is better but I found that Perfect Dark took everything that made Goldeneye awesome and ran with it. Personally I hated the Nintendo 64 and about 90% of the games released for it but I borrowed a friend's 64 just to play Perfect Dark. I mean come on! . . . . . the laptop gun?! I'm not saying that Goldeneye is bad, it's fantastic, but i'm of the opinion that Perfect Dark is just superior both in terms of single and multiplayer.
Best FPS of its time? No, Half Life and its expansions and mods win that title for me.
Best Console FPS of its time? Definitely, the game was far beyond any console FPS at the time. Tracked profiles, customisable characters, fun maps, loads of weapons, fun modes, and a HUGE amount of customisation.
Perfect was awesome in multiplayer, boring as hell in single player.
Goldeneye was great in multiplater (until Perfect Dark came out and improved upon everything in Goldeneye) but the single player was more enjoyable.
Even so, neither come even close to being what I would call the best game from the legacy days.
It's one of the best games ever made IMO, and I'm glad it's coming to XBLA being fully updated in graphics, online multiplayer up to 8 players, controls, etc.
I still play the game on occasional thanks to Perfect Dark mode in the campaign(changing enemy health, accuracy and damage), option of having cpu quad mates following you and the multiplayer with bots and tons of options.
To me it's better than Goldeneye and Goldeneye was my 1st FPS ever.
