Playing fallout 3 10 years later. Should I be ashame?

A 10 years old game....

But 2 hours in, I find it quite good....

Should have started with New Vegas, it's actually good as opposed to FO3

Why the frack would you be ashamed of playing an old game?

Shit man I'm working my way through the original Deus Ex right now, a game from 2000, for like the 1034th time. And I don't consider that an "old" game, just a classic.

Old would be playing, idunno...Tie Fighter? The Curse of Monkey Island (un-remastered)? Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn?

As for Fallout 3, that's a great game, you should enjoy it. I'll never forget the first hour: hearing Liam Neeson narrate as I develop my characters attributes; stepping out of the vault and seeing the wasteland for the first time; heading to Megaton, and eventually destroying it with the nuke they worship :D Great game. It's not quite as open as New Vegas (a game I like better), but the story and overall gameplay of Fallout 3 is great.

Im surprised, that, when it comes to NPC, Dialogue options and how the world reacts to your choices better than in Skyrim. Wich is a posterior game and it kinda sucks in that matter, even if some characters tells you nice stories.

Everyone says New Vegas is better, but I acually want a game with less factions and missions. Im already overwhelmed with the amount of things to do I have in other games: Borderlands 2 and Skyrim. So, it's fine to me fall out 3 not being as BIG,

@jord: I hear that, man, I enjoy open world games but I would prefer more random encounters and more focused missions than just a world filled with pointless/lame stuff.

Worlds keep getting bigger and bigger, but the people responsible for mission design and story can't keep up. Ubisoft is incredibly guilty of doing this of late; big, diluted worlds, putting a pond's worth of content into a lake just does not cut it.

I'm thinking of playing through FO3 too... especially since it's XB1 X enhanced & I got a free code for it :)

No shame. I recently replayed a fair chunk of Fallout 3. I was thinking I'd just play a few hours and screw about a bit with a pure melee build, but there's something about those Bethesda games...I got sucked back in and played another 30-ish hours. And I still have Fallout: New Vegas that I've yet to play.

Actually, I've been playing a lot of older games lately. I'm still working through a pretty sizable backlog of stuff from last gen (with at least two dozen other titles I'd buy in a heartbeat if I could get them at a decent price), not to mention an ever-growing library of stuff on PC, some of which is 20+ years old. I really don't feel bad that I'm not playing all the newest releases.

There are very, very few games released these days where I feel it's important to be part of the zeitgeist. Right now, the only game on my radar that I will absolutely play on release is Red Dead Redemption 2. Everything else can wait.

Fallout 3 is great. I loved exploring the Capital Wasteland and discovering all sorts of interesting locations and stories. Nothing wrong with playing older games as long as you're having fun.

I play thru F3 at least once every year. One of my fave RPGs ever. Immersion, atmosphere, locations, its just perfect game really.

Looks might be bit old by now, but if you fiddle with your telly's settings for a bit you can make the game look pretty good.

Definitely worth playing even now. Just remember to install Point Lookout and other DLCs so as to raise level cap, as the cap is very low in the vanilla. Point Lookout is an awesome DLC in its own right, while the others are bit meh. But at least Broken Steel DLC lets you keep playing after you finish the story.

New Vegas is good too, in a different way. I'd say F3 is more whole of them, but NV sure has content to it. Just too bad the actual Casino area is so disappointing. PC prolly has some cool mods to make the casinos less dull.

There are games I wish I could go back and play for a first time. FO3 is one of them. Enjoy!!

Noway man! Enjoy it, it is one of the best rpgs ever made and certainly one of the best examples of a true open world gaming experience.

I've done probably 5 or 6 playthroughs of it... and I've played it within the last year which was my first time with it on the PC. I still really like just exploring in it. It doesn't quite have the amount of content of New Vegas or how much there seems to be in 4, but I just love its setting. I finally started Fallout 4 about a month ago and I'm loving it, not sure if I can quite say I like it more than Fallout 3, but I do consider Fallout 3 to be my favorite game, so that would be saying a lot.

Anyway, doesn't matter how old a game is... if you enjoy it, you enjoy it.

Seriously, you can just play a game without telling anybody.

Why would you be ashamed of playing a 10 year old game? That's not even very old. I still play Atari 2600 games from nearly 40 years ago and I feel no shame about that. In many ways, I feel that these old games are more fun than most modern games.

Agree, I'm more ashamed of playing new games because of how shallow and dumbed down they are compared to the games we use to get.

Thanks God, even if I don't like the wastedlands scenarios, I give this game I try. I'm totally sucked into its world and mechanics.

Maybe it doesn't have so many "dungeons" and cities to explore like Skyrim have, but It's really fun to play as shooter and some mechanics as becoming an addict, radiation, the vaul system (yes!), mutilation effects in your body, and the NPC and dialogues are really great. it feels more like a real RPG to me. I didn't enjoy such an experience since Half-Life 2.

I really waiting to find more cities like Megaton, Maybe I should go through Metro rutes... I want to meet more of this charismatic characters and their stories!

Definitely no shame in playing a 10 year old game. I just recently played Canis Canem Edit to platinum on my PS4; a game from 2006.

I think Fallout 3 is better than Vegas. Aside from the lack of factions(which I hated.) Fallout 3 had the more interesting location. Hell, I'd say it has a better locale than even Fallout 4. Wait till you see Washington monument and the Whitehouse! There are also the subway tunnels that let you get to certain places faster. Fallout 3 was a true joy to explore and it has a pretty interesting story to boot!

The only thing you should be ashamed of is not checking out the 'A Tale of Two Wastelands' mod, which merges FO3 and FONV into one game. It basically pulls all of FO3 into the NV engine and lets you play through both games with the same character.

No, I bought Fallout 4 and sold it 6 months later. Found it boring.

Ashamed of playing a 10 year old game? Hell no. In the last two months I went and beat the 3 original Spyro the Dragon games, three games from my childhood that I'd never beaten, the first of which will be 20 this year.

Sure, playing games years after release you notice that the games are rougher than they originally seemed, but if you still find it to be an enjoyable experience, why care?

I had to leave the current mission I was doing: the robot-man vs Ant-womanizer side quest, wich was quite fun, because of that.

I'm addicted. not to jets or anything...but to this game.

Now, I can officially say I NEVER DIED SO MANY TIMES IN a video game EVER.

people says its easy, and the hardcore one is new vegas. but 10 hours into this game, and I'm always low on amo. and even in my first the side quest mission "blood ties" is a real nightmare. Even more when I did Borderlands 2 session this afternoon, and middle of the campaign in, is a piece of cake. In solo mode.

I hope I will be leveling up soon. Because....

when I played I remember being frugal with ammo. Using melee and/or low power weapons on the easier enemies - way to go.

by the way I highly recommend the dlc for this game!

I loved mass effect 2 aswell - definitely in my top 10.

I really hope the next fallout game remembers the strengths of Fallout 3 because Fallout 4 really didn't live up.

Even the camera options were better in Fallout 3 - you could really zoom out and and get a 3rd person perspective - even being able to spin the camera around to see yourself from a front on angle which helped immersion.

I've been playing games for my whole life. But i only played a few games that i rotated between(i was very poor :( ), now i am playing all of the good old games. Because i have missed so much.

I am currently playing, metal gear series, i played fallout NV and 3 for 1 year ago, oblivion, dark messiah of might and magic, and some of the hitman games(the oldest ones).And i must say, older games are so fucking good, i am addcited to older games more than the newer ones. Just play what the **** you want, don't feel ashamed i don't. ;) I will play so many more too, thats why steam is the best :D

And i will soon buy retro games too, on the very old consoles. :P

Hell, I'm still playing Diablo 2 (2000) with the expansion (2001), still a lot of people playing that.

Oh and Tomb Raider 2 (1998) on the pc.

A million times this. When you play New Vegas you realise you are playing a proper RPG, that rivals that of the classics such as Fallout 1 & 2 & Planescape: Torment.

Its a game that is filled with choices, multiple different endings, reputation and interesting builds. You can play any kind of character you want, which encourages different play throughs.

Fallout 3 was okay, but it basically just made the framework that a good RPG could be created on. I think Bethesda make fantastic worlds, but they just are not skilled enough or brave enough to create a true RPG.

No reason to feel ashamed plus it’s a great game.

Well, I have read opinions about fallout 3 versus New Vegas. It seems both are great games with its owns pros and con.

IIt seems fallout3 has a better world design, more freedom and an overall better story and side missions. New vegas seems to be a better RPG. Since I already put 30 hours in Fallout 3 andI have to stop because I need to sleep....I'm sure I will play New Vegas when I am done with it.

Not since Mass effect 2 and 3, I was so addicted to a game. and as an overall experience, I didn't get so inmersed into a game since Half-Life 1.

I don't know why, But even if Skyrim has a deeper lore, and the world is much more full of content, not only in missions, but in things to explore at every corner, Fallout 3 looks a better RPG to me (radiation, mutilation and vault system, dialogues, memorable NPC). Maybe it's because Skyrim has so much on it, that maybe it's not skyrim hasn't those things, but got overshadowed by the overwhelming size of the rest. what do you think?

I play plenty of games that have long passed and everyone seems to have moved on from.

Heck, this upcoming february will be the first time I play Shadow of The Colossus.

It's impossible to play every good game every year. Where is the shame ?
