If someone was curious about the pokemon games and wanted to try one out, what would be his best bet? I've never ever played any kind of pokemon game. I watched the show sometimes when it was on. Should i start at the beginning games back on the GB and GBA or what? Is there a kind of anthology that has them all together? Or maybe are they on Wiiware channel? Any advice is appreciated.

I would start from the first one and work my way up. That's just what I would do. I don't think you'll be regreting it though if you start playing a newer one. It's all good

Is FireRed and LeafGreen good replacements for the first one since it's a remake?

YES. get FireRed/Leaf Green. but, honestly, since they're stand alone, I'd suggest Silver/Gold. Theyre THE pokemon games. They have alot of pokemon to choose from without being overwhelming, AND they have what is in essence TWO storyline quests. You could get HeartGold/SoulSilver, but i really dont like the presentation of the newer ones as much. So, to conclude, if you want to play just one, get one from the Silver/Gold/Crystal generation. but...if you want more than one, do this: 1)Play Fire Red or Leaf Green. 2) then play Gold or Silver because it takes place like 5 or 10 years after the events or RBY/FR/LG, so you could get a sense of continuity and its a neat experience. As a side note, Diamond and Pearl are really neat because of their use of wi-fi, you can trade pokemon and battle online and thats AWESOME. Also, Sapphire and Ruby are the weakest, so id say only play them after you've played the others and if you just reallly love the series. I've played them all more or less, at least one from each generation, so feel free to ask me any questions.

I'd start with the GBA ones, as they offer the best blend of lots of activities , good graphics, compelling play and not TOO much crappy pokemon no one cares about anymore. Gold and Silver are actually the best games, but the GBA pokemon games have cool things like contests and such that Gold/Silver doesn't have. Otherwise you can go for a remake of Gold/Silver and that'll push it over the top.

Don't start with the first one, they look like crap.

Get Pearl or something for DS.
