Is this normal?
I don't mind the jaggies, but everything looks so blocky. I tried out FF12, one of the best looking games on the system and it looked like crap. Widescreen, normal, etc, nothing helped.
Still thinking about getting Jak 3 though :P

most PS2 games run in 480i on a HDTV (with a component cable). only some of the very high-end games towards the end of the system's life do 480p. only shadow of the colossus comes to mind.

I know how to fix this, i had the same prolem but i totally fixed. All you have to do is... while your playing the ps2, you go to the picture setting on yout TV. so you press menu, and under picture go to size, and change it from 16:9 to 4:3. this will put 2 black bars on the sides but it will make the tv the way it was supposed to be played for ps2 which is NOt 16:9 but 4:3. i play MGS3 all the time and it looks great. so just press menu on your tv remote, picture, then size, and switch it from 16:9 to 4:3. OM me if you have any questions.
My Wii was the same way. (And my PS2)
Turning down the sharpness helped a bunch, and component cables are needed. Look for any progressive scan options if possible.
I did this already. Some PS2 games support 16:9 however, but whatever the game resolution was I matched it on my TV. That being said FF12 looked better in 4:3. The game supported 16:9 but the image was much bigger therefore looked more like crap.I know how to fix this, i had the same prolem but i totally fixed. Probably need a component cable or something, interlacing does seem to be the problem, I'll look into it :P
SD signals with a HDTV never mix well. They'll always look like crap on a HDTV.Flame_Blade88Not always. It depends on the the quality of the TV. Some of them display SD better than others and that's a mistake people make when buying and HDTV, they think that the only thing that matters is the HD or 1080p logo on the box.
yeah, you'll generally get the best resolution by playing standard definition games on a standard definition set. but it can be inconvenient swtiching between 2 TVs, unless you have the space.I'd just say use a SDTV, that is what I do with my Wii.
