PlayStation 2 172K
PlayStation 3 127K
PSP 116K
Xbox 360 175K

So why is it in the "legacy" section?

I can't get a straight answer from anyone at Gamespot.

It's quite funny that it is still outselling the PS3, but it is in legacy because of the age of the system, and because if it had its own seperate forum (as it used to have) then other consoles of the same generation would want them. It was moved into legacy quite a while ago.

Simple, it's technically not a current generation console. And the whole purpose of this board is to talk about console from previous generations, hence why it's included here. Eventually the same will happen to the current generation consoles at some point I imagine.

And while I understand that games are still being made for it, that doesn't change the fact that it's a console from the previous generation of consoles.

Yeah - except no one is buying the XBOX or the Gamecube - so that doesn't really apply. Games are still being made for the PS2, it's outselling the PS3, and developers are probably going to take notice. The DS is old too, but I see it's not in here.

ps2 is in the legacy section bec. ps3 is the latest model. the old model has to retire or step aside for the newer one. sony is slowly retiring the ps2 to focus more on the ps3. the only thing thats keeping the ps2 alive are:

ps3 is expensive, ps2 is still making (little) profit for sony, and there is still 1 or 2 years left for the ps2 imo.

Ps3 can't wait much longer they got to make a price cut. Even if its only $50.

Yeah I totally agree. If anything this will make Sony more comfortable knowing that they already have a solid revenue besides the Ps3. Means they can take their time and not take dangerous ventures.

well wii is a gc 1.5 (some times you gotta fix whats broken lol) so i guess that is one reason the other is because sony , ,always supported their console just as much nintendo did gb back when , ,

but ya it is suprising and also a bad sign for ps3 because of obvious reasons ,

kudos to sony for supporting ps2 if they had stopped i dont think it would help any ,

sure you got psp but we know whats happened there

there is the 3rd reason-psp , , games on wii and psp are easy to do on ps2 then 360 ps3 , , or modernday pc

its good that sony does support the ps2 , because quite frankly the games are ton cheaper on ps2 wii psp ds then they are on ps3 360 at least some 360 games have came down ,

Yea it's a pity the PS2 seems to being pushed to sidelinesby Sony.I just recently rebought a "Fat" PS2 and several games including Killzone and Battlefield 2.Now I've just bought a network adapter complete with the network access disc and was sad to find that even though i was able to set up my PS2 for online, that "Central station" must now be closed as i just can't get on there.

You can still play Battlefield 2 online which is still great and seems to get plenty of people on there. Also managed to log onto Killzone online and download an update for online play, but was dissapointing to find no one else in any of the available online matches.

I feel sorry for anyone now bidding up to £40 on ebay for a network adapter thinking they'll get some great PS2 online gaming, cos basically theres next to none.I was lucky and only paid a small ammount for a new adapter and disc. Also it's a great pity that the PS2 didn't get more online games, cos it's still a great console.

I think it's kind of arbitrary what generation it's from. If the PS2 is popular enough to be selling more than the PS3, it should have it's own message board.
