I had a PS2 for a long time, but never really played Kingdom Hearts until a frined talked me into it. I played and beat the first one, and I was satisfied with it. But now, I face a dilemma. I know enough of the video game production history to know that Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is a remake of Chain of memories for the Game Boy Advance. From what I understand, that game takes place between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. I have the KH2 and Re: CoM both unopened, with a strategy guide to KH2. I would like to play the games in the order of the story, but I wonder if I have something wrong here.

So here's my question: Should I play Kingdom Hearts II and THEN Re: CoM in order to play the games in order of release date from oldest to newest, OR, should I play Re: CoM THEN KH2 in order to play the games chronologically by their story order?

Please correct me if I have the Video game history wrong.

Thanks!

Buy both and play/beat CoM first. I beat the GBA CoM before I played KH II and enjoyed it alot more thanks to that. The fact that you have access to the PS2's version of CoM makes even more of a no-brainer. Have fun!

There's no question that you should play CoM first; what you have is meant to be experienced before KH2 (since the GBA game was released between KH1 and 2 as well as taking place between them).

Just in case you actually need a third opinion, play RE: Chain of Memories first. Just keep in mind: You will get used to the battle system eventually, and it will be fun once you know how to use it well.

I should add that if you also have a DS and an intention of playing that Kingdom Hearts game (358/2 Days), you should play that after CoM, but before KH2 (it takes place between those 2 games).

EDIT: I know that the DS is not a legacy platform, I just added this since it has to do with the chronological order of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Somewhat wrong/incomplete timeline, the game takes place near the end of KH1 and during and after CoM and right before KH2. I'm against playing it before KH2 simply because the game is meant as a revelation onto what went on between the end of CoM and the start of KH2. Playing it before beating KH2 will kill the suspense.
