i am a ps3 owner and enjoy fps and games like GoW. i work with idiots at work so i enjoy going home and killing stuff as a destresser. problem is i have a 4 year old and my wife is having a problem with him seeing the violence and blood/gore. i am debating on getting a Wii so that he and i can play some kid friendly games or possible sell my ps3 for a360 w/kinects so he can play games.so here is my question. does anyone with small kids know of any ps3 games that are light on the gore kind of like uncharted or batman or should i seriously think about the Wii for him and i to play when he is around or would i get better bang for my buck by switching to 360 w/kinects. thanx in advance for any advise.

Little Planet 1 and 2 are two excellent games that I think your child will love. I think the majority of PS3 games are more suited to the adults than kids though...but I could be wrong. Sorry that I am not of much help!

Little Big Planet 1 and 2,3D Dot Game Heroes, probably some good games to get on the PSN or PS1 games to download, Katomari Forever, Ratchet and Clank, and The Sly Collection. Have you thought of trying computer games? You can always find some good, free flash games or any older games.

did not think about the sly collection or ratchet. does LBP have to grow on you cuz i tryed the demo and had a hard time really seeing the point of the game. i agree and think ps3 was geared towards adults. i had a 360 a while back and could have sworn there was an option to turn down the gore but maybe i am mistaken. thnx for the advise and i still welcome more

Each PS3 game has a 'Parental Level' setting or something like that. If you don't want him to touch your games (Say, maybe GoW is like a Level 9 or something), just lower the maximum level in the Settings. On the note of games, there are quite a few kid oriented games like (the aforementioned) LBP 1 & 2, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Collection, and most of the Move games. There are also a few kid-friendly PSN games, too.

I don't like Little Big Planet from what I played so I don't know if it grows on you. The 360 doesn't have an ability to turn down blood, that would be an option in the games.

its not him playing my games. it mainly just my wife freaking out cuz he said "i kill the bad guys" which i really dont have a problem with but when we play he always wants me to be a monster/bad guy and he wants to kill me. like i said i dont have a problem with it but in order to keep peace in the house and still be able to play games when he is around i have to tone the gore/violence down. plus it would be fun for me to be able to play a game with him on rainy days or at night. and as i typed this i just thought of the mega man games.with the price drop of the Wii coming and his bday coming i am seriously thinking of gettin him a Wii and that could add a family game night in the house. all good suggestions, thanks

A Wii or getting things for the PC would probably be the best option. With the Wii you could get the Megaman and Mega Man X Collections. I was playing those games when I was about his age 4-6, with a little Duke Nukem 2D and 3D, Wolfenstein 3D, and Mario with it.

My daughter is 4 and my son is 2. I don't play any objectionable games at all until after the kids go to bed. No guns, blood, language, or anything else. I just see that as part of being a dad. My wife understands why I want to play violent games, but she herself doesn't like them. I play them in another room at night after spending time with her. Truthfully, I play the Wii a lot now. My daughter can play some things on Wii Sports resort and loves it. She also loves watching me play Donkey Kong and Mario, and those games are still a lot of fun for me. I play Dora and Princess games with her as well. It may not be what we want to play, but they're still fun, and the kids get exposure to gaming until they are old enough to play "grown-up" games. Kinect had some fun things for my daughter, too. She loved the Kinectimals demo as well as Kinect Adventures, which we played together. My advice is to get a Wii. They're cheap, and they have lots of games for kids. I'd really recommend against playing other types of games in front of your kid, though. You'd be amazed at what a four year old finds scary.

I'm not an adult, (teen actually) but I'd say if you still want to play gory games, try it on a night when you don't have to go to work the next morning, and he's in bed asleep.

Yeah, the Wii seems like your best bet from what you're coming from.

Get him into fighting games like Super Street Fighter IV. He'll be a fighting game pro by the time he's in his early teens. :D

I'd also recommend the Wii. Lot's of family friendly games there. But I'd also like to say that there's no real reason to brand the PS3 as an adult console. There are enough games that may not be aimed at children but are violence free. Personally, I grew up with racing games: Lot's of action, no violence. Pretty ideal for young boys and the PS3 has a good collection of them.

Batman?! Isn't that the game with a bunch of psychotic looking clowns and stuff?

I think the Wii is a good solution with Kirby, Donkey Kong etc...

However, for PS3 perhaps some kind of jrpg. I was gonna mention a few other obvious games but someone else already did. Maybe Eternal Sonata, or Disgaea? :D

I don't think you are going to get your FPS fix with the games usually available on the Wii. There are non violent games on the PS3 like sports and racing games, Little Big Planet, Eyepet, Ghostbusters, etc. I think your best bet is stick with the PS3 and get those, or find him something to play with while you play like Legos.

LittleBigPlanet 1&2. My little 11-year old brother plays it all the time and he never gets bored. If you wanna invest in another console dont sell your PS3 to get a 360, because the 360 doesent have better kid-friendly titles, get a Wii. I would recommend just buying LBP2 though.

In addition to LBP, Ratchet&Clank, and Sly, there are all the Lego games (star wars, batman, indy jones, harry potter, Pirates of the Caribbean), Deblob 2, Mini Ninjas, Maijin and the Forsaken Kingdom, almost all the Move games are family oriented, there's also the music games (Singstar, Guitar Hero, DDR, etc), the trivia games (Buzz, You don't Know Jack), sports and racing games, lots of games based on kid's movies, and there are lots of psn games that are 2d scrollers, etc type games like you find on the Wii.

I definitely don't think the Wii is the only option for people with kids. I personally would rather just have the kid get used to the better tech in the other consoles, but it's a personal choice. As a side note, I know some small kids have problems holding the wiimote – you can buy a special smaller kid-sized wiimote that is better for really young kids. If you really want a Wii due to nostalgia, you might want to hold off a little bit as they are about to release their HD Wii any time now. So you should either wait for the new machine or wait for the price drops on the old Wii (definitely don't pay full price for the Wii, there are lots of sales going on now in anticipation of the future price drop so make sure you get a good deal if $$$ matters to you).

Edited to add: oops can't forget about Katamari since its in my avatar. I know there are other kid friendly games I'm forgetting, you just got to look and you can find plenty of family enteretainment on the PS3.You don't have to feel forced to get a Wii just because you have kids.

Good question I had the same dilemma about 5 years ago or so. My oldest was 7 my youngest son was 3 and my daughter was 2 and was I didnt want then getting any influence from some of these games. I stopped playing the "bad" games in front of then and played games that were more suitable for US (more or less my oldest and I). Of course Wii is awesome for kids as my kids play it now but they also have a PS3 now too (thanks in part to my brother) but alot goes into parenting as well and teaching the difference between "video games" and "reality". PS3 I would say is geared more towards adults but there are suitable games for kids as well. As previously mentioned all the Lego games are great. My kids loves those. Also not sure how "sports related" you are but my kids love Madden/FIFA/NBA2K/MLB The Show as well. I never could get into LBP but Ratchet it pretty cool, also dont forget Sonic and my oldest (12yrs now) really loves Civilization Revolution now too. As not sure you want to invest but Guitar Hero/Rockbands are also good as well for kids. (You may want to watch some of the songs though...) But they have country track packs, LOTS of music on there and playing drums/guitars, or singing is always fun for kids if they know the songs.... Hope this helped a little.....
