[QUOTE="thedarklinglord"] getting jumped by mutants during the dark of night. Kevlar101
You pointing that out has totally ruined the game for me.

Sorry 'bout that. But it's true! I was actually replaying Borderlands when Rage was delivered, and given the really similar feel to the wastelands of both games, I was really expecting that day/night cycle. And it was really disappointing when it never came. I mean, you have this post-apocalyptic wasteland environment with these freaky mutants running around, and there's no night? WTF?! And it's an id game. These are the same people who used gloom and shadow so well in the original Quake, and who forced you to choose between using a flashlight or your gun in Doom 3. How did they screw this up? Major letdown. Hell, had they really wanted to up the creepy, they could've pushed beyond the dark blue/purple lighting of Borderlands night and gone straight to the almost suffocating pitch black of Left 4 Dead. Just had eerie glowing eyes of the mutants coming at you in that wild, bouncing, loping animal-like movement... Gives me the willies just thinking about it. So much wasted potential...

So, what you are saying is, that this RPG/Shooter called Rage, had the potential to be an RPG/Horror/Shooter?

no, not underrated, I think it is scored close to where it should be. I think the game was about a 7/10. Solid, but I didn't stick around too long after I finished it.

I agree. I can definitely see potential in a day/night cycle for RAGE, with monsters leaping at you, and those twitchy mutants - that would be cool. Alas, it isn't to be. RAGE is a fun, but ultimately forgettable title lofted only by it's admittedly beautiful visuals.

I thought the gameplay was pretty boring, personally. And even if it weren't, the technical issues I experienced on PC were enough to ruin the game.

I have played this game for 5 hours total....... I love it. It could be one of the best RPG/Shooters out there, I really dont see why people hate it so much. the shooting is good, the racing is a blast, I admit, the save system is sh!t, and i love Mutant Bash...... the town setup is cool, the ruined city is cool to look at, and the sounds is great..... what is everyones problem with this game??? Kevlar101

It is decent enough, but it already got pretty good reviews so I wouldnt' say it's "underrated".

Also the game was pretty massively hyped, if anything it fell slightly short of those expectations. I don't think people "hate" the game other than there really isn't anything special about it, and people keep wanting id to make something earth shattering even though have hardly done that since the mid 90's.

No i meant that no dev can implement everythng they want in their game. Id argue the biggest wasted potential in the game industry is the lack of ideas and the destrucion of franchises to appeal to a wider audience by turning them all identical. For the recod i did not think rage was "pretty" just blurry.

I've been playing it a bit as well, roughly the same amount. Honestly I'm surprised it got so much backlash, as a shooter it's damn good - the production values are outright amazing (that being said it took some ini tweaking on the PC to fix up the texture issues). I think people's expectations were a bit much from it, it's not trying to do much other then provide a solid shooter experience, with strong tech to back it up (as ID does). Though I can empathise with people who were dissapointed at seeing the tech being spent on what's fundementally a run and gun shooter, when it could facilitate something even more grand and complex by design (an big RPG etc.). Personally I'm still impressed how the game doesn't drag at all. It's fairly quick to the point, in establishing its world and characters; and low and behold it has some of the best characterisation I've seen in a shooter in a long time. The shooting is downright enjoyable too. Punchy and to the mark, as an id game should be.

I thought it was amazing, and had some of the best-looking environments and graphics to date. The shooting mechanics were great too.
