I'm so pissed at myself. I had a copy of Mega Man Legends 2 on my eBay watch list, complete. I forgot about it, because real-life stuff like work got in the way, and the auction ended and it sold, for $46.00. I just sold Radiant Historia for $48.65. Would have been perfect if I hadn't forgotten. :x

Heirren

Thats not worth being upset over. What's worth being upset over is when your game arrives in nothing but a yellow envelop, looking like a dog went at it for 40 minutes. I can't believe the packaging this seller used. Unbelievable. Going to leave my first, harsh, negative feedback.

Oh yeah, that's happened a few times to me over the years. There are some shady (or stupid if not) people on eBay.

I once had a guy on a trading site that sent me an NES game with half the label torn, a post-it not that was stuck to it (it wasn't coming off, I shudder to think what was holding it in place) and never mentioned either. Thing was, I was a noob there, and he was a longtime member with a gold-star rating and stuff. So I knew I'd just get screwed being a noob and ruin my account rep, so I bit the bullet and didn't report it, but let him know what I thought personally in a message. And he just said "I go by if it works or not." I was pretty upset. I'm not normally big on games being in perfect condition or anything, but that was something that should be mentioned, and I do want the cartridge label to at least be intact.

This has happened to me more times than I can count over the years. And ironically whenever it does happen, the auction always ends for way below what it typically sells for. I think the most recent example was me missing Jurassic Park Operation Genesis and it sold for like $30 less than what it typically goes for :/

I'm curious...how big are all your 'backlogs' /unfinished games? Are you one of those poeple that are bothered by it or see it as an endless catalog to browse from, and if you're not in the mood for any, you buy something new?

For me my backlog is over 120, and I didn't notice until I wrote it all down mainly because I was always fixated on games that were 'perfect 10s' to me

My backlog is easily over 500 games long. I simply buy games way faster than I can finish them.

I have over 10 games I started and am currently playing but haven't finished, and then I have over 40 games I have but haven't played yet, and a huge list of games I want to have/play.

I haven't counted. Before i decided i wanted to collect PS2 games rather than just have the best titles i had about 70 games. Now i've got 180 and have only tried a small number of the newer additions. I hadn't beaten all the first 70 either, quite a few i started and didn't finish. I've also got loads of PC games i picked up cheap and haven't touched.

I like the idea that as time passes i plod through games and then have something 'new' to play that i haven't already been through.

My local GAME store is selling used PS2 slim's for £15. I don't really need another one, but a classic console for the price of a CD?!

I might ask just to have a look at their stock. If there are any in particularly good condition... ;)

What good games are on there other than Warioland? I could probably convince myself to buy one if there were a few. I wish they'd just release them on the eStore for 3DS but Nintendo kind of pretends the Virtual Boy never existed, such is the extent of their shame.

Good games don't mean squat when the system gives you eye-strain and headaches. And how many good games could there possibly be when there's like 20 something games in the entire library?

The analogue direction control in Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) is retarded.

Not only does it change its mind what up/down/left/right means for your character as the camera angle changes by 1 degree, but in the red-yellow-green-blue game incident function, it's often difficult seeing the colours against the background.

I realise i tolerate idiot-functions less than most here, but i just don't understand how games full of good ideas can trip up on the parts that require human input.

It seems that games with interesting stories (that are not RPG's) fall into 1 of 2 categories: Either they have stupid controls and/or a poorly thought-out interaction method. Or they suffer from something that i call "Dreamfall Syndrome", where all the player is doing is guiding the character to the next cut-scene with nothing happening on the way.

The console has jumped up in price, more recently. I remember when Toysrus had them on clearance for $19.99. I bought mine off eBay in 2003 for around the same price with 3 games. Mario Tennis, Mario Clash, 3D Tetris, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, Warioland, Panic Bomber, Vertical Force, Pinball, Baseball--to be honest everything I've played on the console I thought was enjoyable. Some are better than others; Teleroboxer is legitimately a great game IMO. Obviously there's complaints of eye-strain, but in reality it works in the same fashion as most stereoscopic 3d. In fact, I'd argue that it is less straining than active shutter, as you don't have something rapidly blinking in front of your eye. The other positive ill mention, which you'll like to here, is the sound. It sounds like a very crisp 8bit console. The overall experience of the console is very dreamy--it is sort of bizarre. If you have friends that share an effinity for games, or grew up with games, it's also just kind of nice to have(conversation, etc). Lastly, one of the complaints was the battery sucking of the console, which nowadays is gone due to cheap rechargeable batteries.

I've said "%$&£ you" to this game this evening more than any other i can recall. The controls are flipping awful, and i've reached a point where the game doesn't tell me what to press and so i fail the scene everytime. That 8/10 score is slipping away faster than a KY'ed ferret.

Just a warning..there's one part in the game where you're SUPPOSED to fail the "Simon Says" sections, if you get all right you always get a game over. Just

I was winning an auction on Mega Man Legends 2!!! I had it for $40. There was like an hour left on it, and the freaking guy changed it last minute to a "Buy It Now" for $69.99!!!

WTF?! I'm so let down! I didn't even know they could do that!

While playing Snatcher I saw Konami (through Gillian) remarked on the games/violence discussion back in 1994. This is an excerpt of the main character Gillian discussing Lethal Enforcers in Snatcher:

"It [Lethal Enforcers] caused quite a stir in the 1990s when 2 senators from the United States started a two-man crusade against video game violence. Those same two senators were later voted out of office in a humiliating landslide when their constituents decided that they wanted representatives who would do something about real violence on the streets. It's amazing how perople can use a simple video game as an excuse for all of society's problems. It's always easier to point the figure [finger?] at the other guy than it is to point it at yourself. Human nature hasn't changed at all since then, huh?"

Indeed it hasn't it seems. I believe Indigo Prophecy made a quip against the debate as well in the form of a computer article.

@Emerald Warrior

Wait so you bid on the item and then they somehow converted the auction to a BIN? When a person bids on an auction they shouldn't be able to change the structure of the auction afterwards, let alone have a BIN option (that disappears once a bid is involved unless a reserve has not been met to my knowledge).

I don't think that is allowed. Bids are a form of contract on both ends.

That's what I thought, they set timeframes for when things can be altered and if a bid's on an item then typically there's not much you can change afterwards.

With a flimsy and over-sensitive thumbstick that is prone to breaking. And the controller itself is quite awkward to hold. One of my least-favorite controllers.

See that sounds more like a personal problem. Also, I recall you defending Halo2 controls against someone. I believe you stated something along the lines of the person not being good at the game or sucking at the controls(correct me if I'm wrong).

Yep. Not a thing wrong with the Halo 2 controls. But I don't see how one has to do with the other.

"Flimsy" and "prone to breaking" are far from personal problems, though. It's a well-known and documented issue with the controller.

Yet many people had no issue with it. I will say that the controller will wear if it's abused. I just don't see how you call it too sensitive. I prefer the stick over the psx dualshock, for sure. And growing up back then most people around me agreed.

Controller comfort has a lot to do with your own hands as well. I find the X360 controllers crippling and the PS2/PS1 controllers far more comfortable. While i've read that there are lots of people who think the exact opposite.

It's pointless blaming the controllers when your hands don't fit it. Someone's do.

In using eBay more frequently as of late, would anybody else be interested in an eBay sticky thread of sorts? Essentially what gave me the idea were some rather negative experiences in such a short span of time. Some worse than others--poor packaging to broken item--I was thinking people could contribute, if they chose, to share their experiences and what sellers they went with.

That might be helpful, I use ebay an awful lot, myself.

How much did you pay? You can get those handheld poker games at the Dollar Tree.

I think it was only the equivalent of about $4. The catalyst was probably the PC ones i've played which are far more simplistic and fun to fill-in 20mins.

There's also quite a bit of in-game advertising in it. "The next card-cam is brought to you by Wrigleys"

I want more games with the depth and storytelling of a good JRPG, but with the addicting real-time gamplay of a good action-RPG.

It's not legacy quite yet, but Pandora's Tower comes out next month on the Wii. It supposedly is an awesome action RPG with a good JRPG story.

Cool. I'll check it out. I already picked up Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, which fits the bill perfectly. But I haven't played it yet because I was busy with other games (Breath of Fire II, Skyrim Dragonborn Expansion, and Chrono Trigger).

Sounds like the problem I'm having :p

I bought Metal Gear Rising on Tuesday when it came out and have only played about an hour of it because I'm still in the middle of playing Lunar Silver Star Story and God of War.

How does Revengeance seem? I'm sort of sitting on a copy because I seem to be so enticed with adventure games and Sega CD outings lately.

So far it is a very, very good game. My only gripe with it so far is that in the more action packed sequences the game feels too ditached from the player, making it feel like your watching a movie rather than playing a game. However the combat it perhaps one of the best I've ever played in an action game. I highly recommend getting it.

More like opening it. :P I resumed Heavy Rain recently so it's been distracting. I mean once a pinky's gone you have to be in it to the end y'know.

To some extent Burnout Revenge has ruined me. Currently playing Burnout 3 and finding it very difficult not being able to check traffic. I keep forgetting then being surprised when i crash.

It's not a criticism of either game, it's just easier to go from 3 to 4 than from 4 to 3!

Most games made for Windows 95, and not MS-DOS, will still run on newer PCs. Unreal Tournament, Quake 2 and 3, and Deus Ex were made for Windows 95 but they run on newer Windows versions. If you want to emulate Windows 95 you can use a virtual machine like Microsoft Virtual PC or Virtualbox, which you can install Windows onto. You can find saved OS images with it preinstalled, but I do not know if they are legal, so just use a Windows 95 disk and make an image of it, which is legal.
