I think the reason theres a bunch of people who arent good at online games is because their tv has input lag. My brother has a 52 inch sanyo tv and it has a bunch of input lag. My asus 24 inch 2ms monitor has much less input lag than big screen lcd tv's. My monitor also is much smoother. On gears of war 2 when you run on a big screen lcd it makes my eyes dizzy, but not on my monitor.

I did switch the picture from standard to game on my brothers lcd tv and my k/d ratio went way up.Game picture mode must make it faster or something. Before I had it on standard and I was the worse player in the game but when I switched to game I was the best player. So I think there wouldnt be so many bad players if there wasnt input lag and it was smoother. People want bigger tv's rather than a smoother gaming experience though.

I like the smooth and fast gaming experience of a tn panel. Im gonna mass message people on my recent player list and tell them to switch to game mode on their tv and watch their k/d ratios go up.

I have never seen anybody good that plays on a big screen tv. All the good players either have a tube tv which has no input lag or a tn monitor like those hardcore mlg guys. This is coming from what I see in my life. I always thought it was stupid for people to play on small tube tv's but now I see that it makes them play better. I never put two and two together about tube tv's until now. You go to gaming tournaments and you'll see them only playing on tube tv's or tn monitors.

that I can't tell I haven't seen many people playing outside my house or friends so I can't make a statement on the TV subject, I was just thinking of other reasons why people wouldn't bee good for videogames. .

My friend's TV has huge inpuit lag. it was like palying Killzone 2 except it was COD. which makes no sense b/c cod is known for its buttery smooth controls.

he said 'theres no lag!'

i bet him 50 bucks that when he comes over to my place it would be fast as hell responsive.

he didnt accept however. LOL.

My friend plays on this really crappy old 50 inch tv that his parants passed on to him with what appears to be really really low resolution. He is pretty much the best halo player I know and is very good at games in general. I don't think input lag happens, but playing a game on my 21 inch pc monitor is much more comfortable to me than the 60 inch tv

I play on a 47" LG. Used to play on a 46" Vizio. I kick ass pretty well. I'm no tournament player, but I generally end up top player in most shooters I play. No offense, but you're full of it ;)

Yup. This is the reason I suck at online. If you ever play with me, just know it's my TV. 8)

Input lag only effects things with extreme precision, like fighting games, where you can count frames.

I use a computer monitor for some of my console shooters not because of lag problems, but because it's less space for my eyes to concentrate on while I'm playing (I don't have to search 4 feet of space to see a sniper).

Not that I doubt lag is a problem. Trying to play something like Rock Band when the sound output is off is...not easy.

I go between a 32 inch lcd and a 58 inch plasma and each of them give me the same results. I think those who are bad are simply that. Sure, there are cases with input lag, but that's usually because something is set up wrong and can be fixed. I see no reason to go and play on my 36 inch crt for my ps3 (though I still use it for last gen and earlier systems). I don't really go to gaming tournaments as I think they're rather, well useless (sorry if that offends anyone, it's just my opinion). I just sat down for a few rounds of dm on MW2 (oh that makes me sound horrible, so note COD is not my main game for online) and ended up getting between 24 and 30 kills each round, so I don't think I need to go back to a crt for my current gen system.

Basically, people that are bad online are pretty much just not good at a game, so there's no need to make excuses for them.

Input lag is usually caused by "post processing" features of the TV like "auto smoothing" and upscaling and such.

Basically the video game picture gets to the TV, then the TV processes it, then displays it.

The processing causes a small lag.

For normal TV functions like movies, etc, this is no problem, but the problem is when you hook up a console to the TV.

This results in input lag, and you get killed in the split second of post-processing.

You can normally turn off all these functions on the TV.

You want the TV displaying from the console RAW. Not auto-smoothing, or auto-upscaling.

I'm not sure about input lag, but all these people who boast about their 50" Tvs make me lol.
I can play 10 x better with my xbox hooked up to my 20" monitor screen than I can on a 40" + TV.
Larger screens definately reduce effectiveness.

27" monitor is the sweet spot imo, in terms of usability.

Don't blame the TV, its just the player themselves.

I play a lot better on a small screen too. I dont think it has to do with purely someone being a good or bad player. The input lag or whatever can make a person do bad in a game. On games like gears of war 2 input lag can make a big difference.

Yes, input lag on gears is a killer, since fluidity of movement is so key to survival, missing your timing has a very big effect.

Yeah I think you understand. I can even wall bounce on a big screen tv. Its like trying to play rock band with your eyes closed.

OP - or it could be that people are just bad at playing online games :-\
