not surprising. honestly it was one of the year's bigger disappointments for me.
my personal pick would have been super mario galaxy 2. imo it's the pinnacle of 3d mario platforming and 3d platforming in general.
other games i enjoyed this year include gt5, heavy rain, gow3, halo reach, bayonetta, castlevania los
i haven't gotten the chance to play sc2, mass effect 2, super meat boy, or battlefield bc2
In my eyes way better than gta 4..Like some said many games this year hit the mark..There was me2, alan wake was great, many others i can think of..Red dead had the whole picture..Played it beat it and couldnt put the game down..Alan wake was the other game i couldnt put down this year also..

According to Eurogamer's Digital Foundary, the PS3 version wasn't even on the cards when the game was first designed.
"The Face-Off highlighted the resolution, performance and anti-aliasing differences, while the cutbacks in environmental foliage also seemed to go down like a cup of cold sick with the enthusiasts. I learned subsequent to the feature from an extremely reliable insider source that RDR's world was actually designed before a PS3 version was even on the slate, suggesting that memory allocation was a challenge."

It's unfortunate that this far into a hardware cycle we are still seeing this type of thing. Bayonetta was also much worse than the XB360 version (apparently even after the patch) meaning that PS3 owners got shafted on two of the best games of 2010.
I own both consoles but even I cringe at the lunacy of the gulf that often separates the respective versions of PS3 and XB360 multiplatform games. We know the PS3 isn't technically weaker in terms of hardware and at this point these shoddy ports are becoming inexcusable.
Developers: Take the time to do it right.
I played and beat RDR on PS3 and it was one of the more visually pleasing games of the year. Maybe because it was the first game I played on my new tv but it was pretty sharp looking and ran fine (although not as sharp as the 360 version). Bayonetta on the other hand....rdr was a great game that was horribly marred with glitches...unfortunately...i got bored with it...not to say it wasnt a good story or a good bunch of gameplay mechanics...i just usually get bored with rockstar games...
Merry Christmas and congrats to Red Dead becoming game of the year.
-waits for people to get off his 360 to play Red Dead Redemption for Double Exp-
The sad thing is I didn't even know it was released until a week after when my friend was like, "Dude you have to get it!" Sadly I never picked it up.
RDR getting GOTY from Gamespot? Hmmmm.....maybe I should give this game a try. I have never thought of trying it out, although there was this work buddy of mine that told me I should try it out.
Barely any PC games. Guess we know where that system is headiiiiiing. :lol:passerineUsing Gamespot to gauge the PC is like using OXM to gauge the Ps3... Anyways I haven't cared less about Gamespot's opinion in a long time and this isn't going to change anything.

You know, RDR is a good game and all, but REALLY? Another Rockstar game voted as GOTY when it isn't even close to perfection? A lot of these videogame writing sites continue to make the mistake of calling games like GTA perfect when those games are plagued with all sorts of problems, such as bugs and glitches that weren't even fixed. I'm disappointed by their choice. Really!

I personally prefer open world games like Assassin's Creed and inFamous because those games still feel a lot more focused. Their main mission structure also doesn't feel like it was phoned in.
I also really dont know why Rockstar continues to have extremely lengthy (hence boring) campaigns in their games. The world they create is massive already with tons of s*** to do. There is no need to make you play extremely boring missions just to see the end of the story.
I don't mind open-world games as long it gets me to stay focused on keep on playing the game more. Games like Assassin's Creed bring me back because it just isn't hard to follow. With a game like Red Dead Redemption, there is just WAY TOO MUCH to do in it and since that world is so big, it's really hard to stay focused on the single-player campaign, because there's so many things you can do to stay distracted. That was one of the biggest problems I had with RDR - just a bit too much to do. If they had scaled it down to something like AC, in the sense of where it stayed focused and had minimal distractions, I would have enjoyed RDR.
I didn't mind GTA's campaigns when I went through them the first time, but when things like driving or collision issues pop up, you can't help but be irritated by some of it. Not to mention the missions that are ridiculous sometimes - for example, in RDR, I remember having to take down a group of bandits before finding my target and it would be a half hour to an hour's worth of a chase by horse before I finally took him down with my lasso. I was thinking "Why the f--- did they go to such long measures to do this against gamers?" Just because a videogame has excellent production values or great music or top-notch voice acting...if the gameplay isn't fun or enjoyable, then it is NOT a game worthy of my time. RDR had some good moments, but it just wasn't a fun experience for me. I would have preferred to call something else like Vanquish a fun game - it was stellar!
It was a very good game, but after the first play through it was just boring. I put maybe another 2 hours into it after i beat to get a few achievments and play with friends, but compared to Mass Effect 2 it doesnt even come close to fun and replayibility.
RDR shares the same problem as GTAIV: Boring side missions/random things to do. I will never fully complete RDR because it is too boring, same with GTAIV. Their both good games, but it seems when it comes to Rockstar, reviewers ignore other review basics and praises their games. I'd much rather they focus more on a few things than adding in a bunch of boring things to do that I try a few times, then stop. Although, both GTAIV and RDR have really good stories and characters, but just not great.

So long as stuff like collectathons aren't forced upon me, their existence doesn't bother me. I think searching out of the way crevices for random stuff is boring, but I know guys who enjoy it. Ienjoy some of the other side missions in the GTAs (gang warefare in San Andreas and playing cop in any of the GTAs).
Nothing against RDR, but the game did render this years awards rather... boring and predictable.SteveTabernacle

[QUOTE="Gamespot"]It's hard to argue with a game as accomplished as Red Dead Redemption. This is a game with a lot of things going for it--a complete package that offers excellent gameplay, stirring music, memorable characters expertly given life with superb voice acting, and an enthralling story taken from the pages of cIassic Western films. Red Dead Redemption is GameSpot's 2010 Game of the Year.S0lidSnake
The Nominees were:
I must say i am very impressed with their final ten list. Some pretty good games in there.
Have no opinion on Red Dead since I barely played the story.
Discuss. :)
Well deserved.
Didn't play RDR, simply am not a fan of Rockstar games. Even without that though I would find it tough to pick a clear winner...

True, they're not forced upon you. But they are really boring, and giving a game points because it has a lot to do doesn't justify anything. Instead, they should make the main story longer and focus on a few seperate things to make it more fun. Please Log In to post.
