I do seems with the advent of the Xbox and Xbox 360 DLC has become the norm. So with Xbox live and later PSN DLC is a way of Nickel and Diming videogame players with extras. But as much as I love playing, I have to remember that videogames are an industry and the publishers have to make money Somehow. So DLC is a good way of "extending the lifespan of a game".

Gaming seemed more "real"? pre-2001. Now games seem more rushed then ever.. But I do remember when games didn't have DLC. Way back in the last century.. Such a long time ago.

Before you go on some ignorant rant do some research. First and foremost, DLC had its origins on the PC, also consoles had earlier experiments in this practice with such devices as the Sega Channel and the Satellaview. There were even experiments with DLC or DLG games in the early Second gen days as well. Also the whole games are rushed these days is a silly notion. Some games remain in development for years, and yes I mean modern games. Another reason you can get quality games as well but in short amount of times are thanks to the fact that games use engines that can carry from other games and be improved. Ah yes let us not forget to that Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is released this year, and five years does not seem like a rushed game does it. Nor does Red Dead Redemption which was announced in 2005, and released last year, Duke Nukem Forever, nearly two decades in development, or let us not Forget Killzone 2 release four years after it was announced. Do some research before boasting such claims.

the only games that seem to get released every year are the Call Of Duty games and the EA sports games, but the yearly sports games were around for over 15 years. the reason why later games take less time is simply because once a developer has an engine built for that particular console , they can use it in more then one game, which takes a fair chunk of work out of the equation. even games like Marvel Vs Capcom 3, which might seem new , actually use a modified version of the engine that ran Resident Evil 5. its no different then the Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1, they all ran on the same engine.

Yep, thats the truth in it all. Its all about engines these days. Yeah yearly sports games have gone around. What I donot understand though is why people complain about things like this, when practices like this have always gone about in the gaming industry? Not you Darkman but others, as you know how the gaming industry works my friend.

Castlevania III, Super Mario Bros. 3, A Link to the Past and Mega Man have plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, and you didn't have to pay any money to get them. Some DLC can be good, but I only buy it if I'm really into the game. I bough the Noble map pack and I plan on buying the Defiant map pack, but I didn't buy the Assassins Creed II DLC. But to each his own.

Most DLC is not extra nooks and crannies. The most trivial DLC are stuff like Horse Armors, unlocking cheats with out earning them,or over priced costumes, nothing to unlock the legit way. Plenty of modern games have tons of nooks and crannies as you say with out being DLC, games like Red Dead Redemption Fallout 3, Dragon Age Origins and many many more.
