Should I get the Sequals to games and get the whole series or should I buy the latest one? Example. I got Jak 3 and I was wondering if i should get Jak 2 and 1. Oh Yeah this is PS2

Get all the games and play them in order. Excellent series. Jak 2 being the most comedic game I've ever played.

Well, in the case of the Jak series, 2 & 3 are radically different than the first one. If you want to be technical; they're all different enough to warrant a purchase.

Jak & Daxter was a pure platformer.

Jak 2 was a mix of the previous Jak and GTA.

Jak 3 was similar to Jak 2 but also put emphasis on driving missions.

This pretty much applies to all game series... well ok, not EA titles or anything else that's realeased on the annual, but stuff like Jak, Ratchet & Clank, Ace Combat, God of War, etc, I'd definitely recommend playing a series as a whole. The only problem with playing the most recent title first is the spoilage factor. Like watching the Final Fantasy VII movie without playing the game prior(being my case)... kinda messes with your gaming experience a bit. haha

Most games try and cater for people who haven't played prior titles in the series. Even MGS4 gave a free digital encyclopedia for you to download on your PS3.

Yeah i would say that it is better overall to play the series as a whole. There are a few exceptions such as final fantasy (im playing those all out of order)

I played MGS4 without playing any prior metal gear game based purely on thy hype that MGS4 created and im extreemly lucky i did. MGS4 was one of the best games i ever played and while not playing the games before it made it a tad confusing it didnt stop it from making it a fantastic game. The day i finished it i went out and bought the essentials collection and will soon play through the first three. So wether you play the most recent installment first, youll want to play the whole series eventually.

I enjoyed Jak 3 & 1, but I hated 2. I would recommend the first 4 Ratchet & Clank games. Same for the Sly series.
