Don't know if anybody read this yet, but Catherine seems to be doing pretty well so far.

A week after its release, Catherine has already become Atlus' biggest launch title ever. The game has shipped the most units at launch of any Atlus game in the company's history.

"Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations," said Tim Pivnicny, VP of Sales and Marketing at Atlus, in a statement given to IGN. "It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay.

"It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail."

No sales numbers released, but that's great news to hear. Gives me some hope they'll put more games out on the current gen consoles. I haven't come around to picking this game up yet, but I'll get my chance in a few weeks hopefully. Not a fan of puzzle games, but this looks too intriguing to pass up.

Awesome news. I'm stuck in level 6 (I am probably going to bite the bullet and lower the difficulty to easy today) but Catherine is an original, high quality game. Its success supports my theory that reputation matters. The quality and level of variety of the SMT games has been really high and Atlus has established a reputation as a company which takes localizations very seriously. Even for niche games like Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This? (a download only PSP game), the localization is never short of excellent.

Catherine of course isn't a Persona game, but some developers build audiences who follow their games (Valve, Team Ico and thatgamecompany spring to mind) and others built audiences who follow one of their franchises (Miyamoto, Kojima, Cliffy B, Infinity Ward). As you might surmise from the examples, I named, the level of commercial success of a franchise counts for a lot, though of course Valve has made at least a couple (maybe more, I don't pay a ton of attention to them) multi-million sellers.

Just finished the game today and chalked up 17 hours on easy. I picked easy but DAMN was this game brutal. Not really Atlus' best game, but it's my console GOTY so far :)

200,000 well earned first week sales. *Sigh* Still haven't beaten it (or knocked it down to easy) yet.

I completed it this morning. 21 hours on Normal, all gold. The ending I got was perfect... to be honest, I'm not sure I want to see it end any other way. :( I guess I'll just have to wait longer then I expected to play-through it again.

I finished it on Hard with All Golds last night. Was such an awesome feeling to accomplish that. Not many games give me that feeling anymore.
