From what I've seen it looks really cool but I've never picked it up. Sort of Jade Empire and John Woo mixed together. (Well that's what I've got from looking at it). Anyway I don't know ANYTHING about the first game, will I be totally lost with this and have no idea what's going on? Or is the story good enough that it won't matter?

Ps. OR any other games like it?

Both games are very easy to pick up and play. You are aware of the most important plotpoints as soon as you begin playing Shenmue II.

Additionally, there is a compilation of cutscenes from the original that comes with the Xbox version of the game if I'm not mistaken.

Correct. There is a DVD movie or something of the first game. I have it, but I haven't yet watched it.

i would have to reccomend you play the first one for the experience, not just to know what is going on in the second one.

Yeah, but obtaining a copy and a Dreamcast is much more difficult than obtaining the Xbox copy. :P Though, what you propose would be the ideal.

I've played both and they are awesome games. If you do start from Shenmue II and haven't played the first, you will be filled on immediately on the major plot points from I. Now if they'd just make III
