I picked R3 up a little earlier in the week, but due to Disgaea 4, I didn't start playing it in earnest until yesterday. The return of the weapon wheel, great weapons (which get more powerful as you use them), well orchestrated enemy encounters, a wide variety of enemies, massive battles, mostly (though not always) competent AI and some superb boss battles translates into the extremely fun (writing from the midway point) campaign and the best game in the series (thus far). What's really cool is that during big battles you will find yourself emptying weapons.

For the record, I enjoyed R1 (the graphics were nowhere near Gears, but I loved the big battles and the weapons) but disliked R2 (the big battles were ruined by AI which keyed on the player and players were limited to two weapons at one time).

There aren't a lot of screenshots which do the insane weapons and gory enemies of R3 justice (they look like hamburger with teeth and eyes before you shoot them...).

I think it's kinda sad how this is one of the PS3's biggest exclusives this year, and no one made a topic for it before now, especially on a board of PS3 fanboys. :P

Seriously though, I got the game on Tuesday and finished it last night. Very good game. Certainly leaner and more efficient than R2's campaign -- in fact, it's the best single-player the series has seen so far, most likely (although #1 is a very close second). I had a few frustrations -- trial and error boss battles and either unclear objectives or obsessive player hand-holding and very little in between-- but overall a fun and enjoyable shooter.

Planning on getting this game as soon as I get the money... Could be awhile.

Sounds and looks great. I enjoyed the second game more then the first although I also didn't care for how the enemy focused so much on the player in R2. I really enjoyed the R3 beta and while I'm disappointed that the 8 player co-op mode isn't in this one I'm still very interested in picking this up soon.

I love how the style reminds me of R1, compared to the big blockbuster feel of R2.

Yeah, I'm still somewhere in the middle, but there are parts where I'm like 'Oh well, I'll just wander through and shoot **** up until I am told I am close to wherever I am suppose to go' :P. Lucky for R3, shooting stuff is really fun. Not only are the weapons great, but there appears to be a full dismemberment system for the enemies. Another nice touch is that some enemies are more indifferent to limbs than others. Some enemies you blow off a limb, they convulse and die, some of them keep coming (some of them try to keep coming, but quickly bleed out). What's also nice is they don't overuse the dismemberment system (every shot or every kill doesn't dismember an enemy).

Last but not least, weapons have kick (I just got rid of Killzone 3 just because recoil is near-nonexistent). Rapidly fire off a clip of rounds from the massively powerful revolver, your gun will be wayyy off target. Getting guns and their feel right is job 1 in first person shooters and R3 absolutely nails it.

Indeed the weapons are badass. They definitely nailed them.Parts of this game are quite brilliant, while others are frustrating and disappointing. I'm playing the game for a second time to see all the weapon upgrades, and it's been pretty cool. I haven't played co-op (because I rented the game and lack an online pass, and also because no one on my friends list has the game), but I'm curious as to how it's handled. Who is the second player? Malikov? He's not with you in many of those sections.

If anyone knows how that works, holler.

I got to try it in London at an early play through last week and it was awesome. My copy has arrived though I haven't the time to play it quite yet. Really looking forward to the co-op mode more than anything though no doubt the multi-player will be a time sink for me again XD

I enjoyed R1 but thought R2 was far superior Carnage just to go against you there :P

Beat Resistance last night on hard (the hard that is available out the gate, not the superhuman difficult that unlocks). The game is extremely well done but there are no surprises (but also no stupid bits). Enough good things cannot be said about the weapons (all of them are well done, but the mutator is a thing of horror and beauty).

Like the original Resistance, I will replay this several times (eventually, this quarter is a little crazy when it comes to games). Beyond the higher difficulty level, there are 'cheats' one can use to make the game harder.
