I always liked Yoshi's Island better, despite SMW being timeless.
Artstyle,music,and gameplay are better imo.

Wha?It's a tough call- I feel like I can convince myself that the better one is whatever one I'm playing at the time; even though Yoshi's Island definitely represents some of my fave video gaming memories. I like how The New Super Mario Bros (wii) integrates the look and style of Super Mario World with the witch/ boss battles reminiscent of Yoshi's Island. The "push down to make eggs" element would have been an absolutely awesome addition in the few moments that you do encounter Yoshi in my opinion as well.
I disagree. I find Yoshis Island visuals to be a little gimmicky. When an art direction goes towards, "alright, let's make this game look like a coloring book"--or yarn, or whatever it may be, it feels forced--as if the art team ran out of ideas. World looks original and fresh. ...yes I was referring to Epic Yarn--that game looks terrible.Yoshi's Island. SMW might be a little tighter platforming-wise, but Yoshi's Island's visuals are so much more interesting and its level design is more interesting as well.

Yoshi eats SMW, makes an egg and thows it away...
But Yoshi's Story was a huge step back from the wonderful Yoshi's Island on the SNES.
Yoshi's Island is subtitled "Super Mario World 2" after all, whereas Yoshi's Story was just a "2nd rate" spin-off.

Super Mario World was just an iteration of the visuals in Super Mario Bros. 3--not that that is a bad thing, SMB3 being the wonderful looking game that it is.
I like the visuals a lot on Yoshi's Island and the sound design as well--except for Mario crying, of course, which is something you're not supposed to like. I felt like it was more fun overall too, though the floaty jumping kind of diminished the challenge of the platforming.

Hmmm. From my perspective Mario World doesn't resemble Mario 3 all that much. The design of the goombas, for example, is remarkably different.[QUOTE="logicalfrank"][QUOTE="Heirren"] I disagree. And the Koopas walk around on their hind legs, fists balled like a bunch of badasses. I guess it always just felt like a continuation to me. I never really knew Yoshi's Island even existed until I was an adult so there's that too.
