I suppose its all relative. I personally got Panzer Saga (PAL , complete with boxes , manuals, cardboard box , etc) for £60 , which , while is almost the price of 2 new games, is still very, very cheap , compared to what the game usually goes for. at the same time, its still an overly expensive game, on that I agree.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is like 20 bucks if you import from what i've seen, and it's not like you can't find good deals or opportunities if you check around. Ebay is one of the worst places to look for rare games from my experience, they usually inflate the prices to Hell.

That's what I ended up doing; I bought the japanese version (Azel) for like $10 complete about 2-years ago. I have to use a script to understand some of the parts and menus (I am somewhat proficient in Japanese, but nowhere near fluent), but honestly it's better then dropping $200 to $300 on a NTSC or PAL copy.

And yes, Ebay sellers are typically horrible when it comes to pricing. They try and screw people for as much money as possible, and all it takes is one buyer with more money than brains to ruin it for everyone else. As soon as someone pays $30 for a used copy of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, they all think it's okay to charge $30+ for that game.

The purpose of this thread is to see if anyone else has had a great amount of difficulty collecting for the SNES and Saturn in recent years? The reason I mention these two consoles is that it seems like it's becoming harder and harder to collect for these consoles without taking out a second mortgage, selling your organs, or consulting a loan shark. I typically find most of my games at places like thrift stores or flea markets, however less common SNES and Saturn games have evaded me almost constantly at these places. I've got lucky a few times, but overall, they are the two main consoles I have the most difficulty finding good deals on. I don't even attempt Ebay anymore and video game stores are even more expensive. It's just frustrating because there are so many great games on those consoles, however they are not worth the $50+ pricetag to me. For several, I'd gladly pay $50 even, but those games are the ones that consistently break $100 (ie Earthbound, Hagane, EVO, ect). Please share your own frustrations in collecting for these consoles, or even other consoles that you've had a hard time finding good deals on. Oh, and good resources for finding cheaper prices on these console's games is appreciated.

bultje112

if you don´t think they are worth 50$+ then just burn them. I always get so sick about people complaining about prices.

I love video games, but on a personal level, very few are actually worth $50+. I put into consideration the quality, length, depth, rarity, and various other things when decising how much a game is worth to me. Yes, Panzer Saga is objectively worth $200+, but the most I'd personally pay for it is probably $90 for the NTCS version. Likewise, games like EVO I couldn't spend more than $50 on a used copy, pretty much what it sold for new when it was released. Just my own way of doing things. If you like spending full price for games, good for you for having the money to do so. I have a limited income and bills to worry about so I tend to buy really cheap 90% of the time.

I've ben itching to get a Saturn for so long now, that i've digested a ton about it. Such a brilliant console, and the best 5th gen console to get these days because, not only is it built like a tank (probably the best disk based build, 2nd only to the Gamecube) but a good chunk of its games have remained exclusive and they have aged gracefully because the tight gameplay is still tight and fun, never mind the 2D bliss of games. PS1/N64 games have ben literally ported all over the place, on PSN, collections, VC, etc.

Hell, i've even made a list of cheap (1-5$, max 15$) games, but excellent ones to get:

Galactic Attack, Legend of Oasis, Daytona USA Championship, Virtua Cop 1&2, Sega Rally Championship, Fighters Megamix, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, Astal and obviously a crap load of 2D fighting games. And Elevator Actions Returns & Shinobi Legions (these two are in the 40-50$ price range).

But man, it's crazy how much price difference there is between the japanese and the NA/PAL version of a lot of games. That's why i've refrained from getting a Saturn, until i have enough money saved. I'm willing to spend up to 50-60$ on any game that appeals to me, but no way am i spending more.

getting the Japanese versions of games is sometimes better than the NTSC or PAL ones. especially PAL , given the fact alot of games were not properly converted for PAL , and with alot of the fighting or arcade games, the language is not an issue. although the best thing to get is a Saturn that has region and 60/50hz switches , which is what I have (more or less)

That's a pretty elitist thing for bultje112 to say. Sorry the rest of us don't have money to blow on very expensive non-essential items like you. What an annoyance we must be to you because we have to live on a budget.

no it's not. unless you know japanese you are clueless about the storyline, which is the essence of the game and by reading a script it won't make the impact it has while playing it.

I typically won't buy a new game the day it comes out, thats when the prices are crazy, unless Im really anticipating the game. think of it this way, I recently got Dead Rising 2 on the PS3 , but it was for £1. yes, £1

yeah, I never pay more then 25 euro for a current gen game

but still, I personally value most retro games differently, there's not a whole lot of PS1 or PS2 games that would get me to pay 25 euro

I think the most I paid for a game was £60 for Panzer Saga, but thats unusual , I generally won't pay much for these games , the reason I went for PDS at that price is because I knew that it goes for 120-200 on average.

and there is no current gen game that comes close to the quality of panzer dragoon saga. or do you rate 16th century paintings cheaper then current generation paintings because they are older? makes no sense at all

subjective

not to mention I already stated I'd have bought Panzer Dragoon Saga if I saw it for 60 pounds, making it an exception, not the rule

and even then the 200dollars people ask for it is just highway robbery

not necessarily when you have a family, house , car , etc , to pay. alot of people end up with a minus in the bank , especially in this economy.

Collecting for Saturn is not even funny, it becomes more and more a second Neo Geo. Heck Panzer Dragoon Saga costs about 150 - 200 Euros on german Amazon store, I want this game but it's so expensive, damn.

well , thats also wrong, using 1 game on the Saturn to claim its somehow getting like the Neo Geo is equally stupid. by that logic, the SNES is simply too expensive because Earthbound costs alot.

That's right but most games I want for the system are too expensive. Quake, Duke 3D, Shining Force 3, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga just to name a few.

they are quite cheap , either he didn't look , or his threshold is lower than most. and frankly if the only games he wants for the console are the expensive ones, than yeah , its pretty obvious its going to be expensive. if the only games I wanted for the SNES were Earthbound or Chrono Trigger, its pretty obvious its going to cost alot.

I got it for the Duke Nukem 3D part the port is one of the most unique out there, other than some of the really odd ones, like the Mega Drive port.

while he is being a bit too .....insulting, he has a point. 2 of those games are not expensive (Im seeing a bid on Ebay.com , ending tommorow, which is 2.99 dollars right now, in the UK its even cheaper),while the other ones are some of the most expensive mainstream games on the system. now if thats the games you want, thats fine, but you can't really say that a console that has hundreds of games is expensive because the only 3 games that you want are expensive. even the NES, a notoriously cheap console in the US, has expensive games in its library.

I'm pretty sure it reaches a price above 25 - 40 Euros in the next 5 days which is too expensive for me. I will post the final price then.

then youre limiting yourself big time. I mean , ordering from the UK , or France for instance, is not the same as ordering from the US or Japan , the shipping prices are a fraction of that, and you don't have to deal with customs. the point being though , is that you can find cheap Saturn games quite easily if you look , wheter you want to limit yourself is something else.

C'mon now, that's really a huge exageration. A decent chunk of its excellent exclusives & superior ports are cheap. You can build a respectable collection for a small price.

Ex. Shinning the Holy Ark, one of the best Saturn RPG exclusive is like 35 - 40 bucks, which isn't that much considering its quality and lenght (40 hours). And that's the NA version, the japanese version is like 8 bucks, which is ridiculously cheap.

Better yet, check this and this list for the cheapest brilliant games on the system, and that's most certainly not covering everything.

It's not the system's fault just because you want the most expensive titles.
