Not long. Now is the time to take advantage of it, as people looking to expand their PS2 collections now are benefiting from the fact that it outlived the original Xbox and the GameCube by such a long time. Think of how hard it's become to find certain titles for the latter two systems. Myself, I have a stack of PS2 games that I still have to add to, yet know working PS2 at the moment. I'd better get on that one as well.

This!

But seriously, I've already seen signs of it ending, mostly with some rarer games going up in value a lot recently. About 6-months ago you could have bought .hack Quarentine for under $50 if you tried hard enough, now that game is impossible to get, at least online, for less than $70. Also, games like Suikoden V, Zone of the Enders The 2nd Runner, and Yakuza 2 have bgan to rise again. I'd say we're still a few years off from seeing games like Final Fantasy X and Okami start to rise in value, but to answer your question, I think PS2 games, while still reletively cheap, are started to rise in value.

When GameStop stores start running out of back-stock PS2 games. That's when the prices will rise again. Because they won't be so readily available to everyone at a cheap price anymore. GameStops are freaking everywhere, but mom and pop shops and Play-N-Trades aren't.

I wish it would last forever.

Because unfortunately, they're not easy to find.

I was lucky enough to have found a used copy of Ico the other day.

And I feel very, very lucky to have found a copy of Okage Shadow King. It was only $1! :D

I'm still looking for Wild Arms 5, Steambot Chronicles, some of the Shin Megami Tensei games and some of the .hack games.

They aren't easy to find at all.

Okage Shadow King is a gem imo for the price you get. All of it is button smashing but it has a good story. It is actually my favorite game of all time believe it or not.:P PS2 games are still easy for me to find, especially online cheap. Maybe you're searching in the wrong places but where I live I can get a bunch of decent rpgs cheap at gamestop if I look hard enough.

I freaking love Okage. The story is excellent. The game has a great sense of humor.

I've found almost every PS2 game I want. But there are still a few I can't find in stores.

I suppose I'll have to order the few that are left online. I don't like doing that because I don't know if the discs I'll be getting will be in good condition or not.

PS2 games are more common than current-gen games here, and they aren't showing any signs of disappearing.

This.

It really depends on which game it is. Gamestop is good for one thing (I almost never go there anymore though) and that once they decide to stop taking trades on a system and its games they clearance out the lot of what games they have remaining so you can get them for cheap. They also dont follow secondary market price fluctuations like small private used games stores tend to.

Here are some PS2 games that are hard to find I can think of off the top of my head:

*Mana Khemia, Atelier Iris series

*Suikoden 3-5

*Jurassic Park Operations Genesis- used to be 50$+ used, its gone down to 30$ but it's going back up again

*Monster Rancher 4

*Shadow Hearts 1-3

*All of the Shin Megami Tensei series- Nocturne, Devil Summoner 1 and 2, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Persona 3 and 4

*Most of the old ATLUS or NISA or Nippon Ichi games- Disgaea 1 and 2, La Pucelle, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, and Soul Nomad

Granted not all of these are going to net you big bucks online or in trades, but I do know you almost dont see any of these games anymore in used stores. And what is interesting is that most of the top valuable PS2 games are RPGs.

Yes get them while you can. Luckily at my little, local EB Games there are three or four shelves of ps2 games. When I get back to my little crook of earth I'll have to take a look again :)

That's how it is with the original Playstation as well; 80% of every game currently worth over $25 is an RPG. The PS2 will be no different seeing how many of these RPGs which are already pretty uncommon and valuabel will be worth a lot more down the road. As I was saying, there are already some which are starting the crawl toward ridiculously expensive (i.e. Devil Summoner, Suikoden V, .hack Quarentine). Fortunely I have own about 75% of every NTSC PS2 games I could want, and I own about 95% of all the super rare and expensive titles I've been wanting on the PS2. I took advantage of buying these games over the past few years for really cheap and it has definitely paid off.

I've been buying like mad! I've been able to find a lot of games easily in my town. So far, for less then $90 altogether I've bought the following games Jax and Daxter Jax II Jax III God of War I God of War II FF X FF XII Kingdom Hearts Spiderman 2 Hitman 2 Hitman 4 (still looking for Hitman 3) Tony Hawks Underground. It's almost more games then I buy in a year!

Went out shopping yesterday, and in an ENTIRE city I could not find a single copy of SSX Tricky! All I could seem to find was 10 billion copies of Pro Evolution Soccer... Earlier this year, I found a copy of Shadow of the Colossus in a bookshop of all places! Didn't buy it, cos I didn't have a PS2 then! X( I just got a Silver PS2 fat for £10 with 2 matching controllers, memory card, cables, network adaptor and a copy of Soulcalibur III in the drive, so I'm looking to gather more games.

I forgot to say, I'm in Australia, games are generally more expensive over here. New releases are $100. So, my point, instead of spending $100 ima stupid new release, I got 12 games, and good games they are! For under $100

I've been doing the same- buying up all those games I overlooked during the system's prime. If Sony continues with the 2 as they did with the original Playstation, it will indeed be supported right up until the PS4 hits.

I have been considering buying a few of the more expensive ones before the price skyrockets completely (.hack, Shadow Hearts, Dark Cloud 2, etc.) I've also been considering picking up copies of "the guy game" for xbox and ps2 because history tells us that those things are likely to shoot through the roof in price years down the road, I mean Custer's Revenge for the 2600 complete in box goes for about $250.
