Gears 3. Petty much improved on everything from the second one while adding a lot of other stuff. First game in awhile where I felt I got my money's worth for $60.
Man, Deus Ex bored me to death. I apprecaite what it was trying to do, but i just couldn't get into it. I've bought the game on PC and plan to play it agian, but on the first few hours on the PS3 were boring as f***. Still, I see why others might like it.
Batman AC would be my GOTY. Not the game I was expecting and nothing mind blowing or the second coming like some people have made it out to be, but like Deus Ex it's hard to deny what it tried to do. It also sucked me in like Mass Effect 2 and AC2 last year, and I played it non-stop for three weeks straight. Cant say that about any other game this year.
Motorstorm Apocalypse and LBP2 were the only games that blew me away, but both were barely 4-5 hours long. A very close second and third.
Nice write up, I forgot about disgaea 4 and added it to my honorable mentions it was a lot of fun. I think you and I are probably the only people around to like the series so much. Probably because we understand the value of ...... SARDINES!! :P @solid: different tastes for different people. Deus Ex is not the type of game for everyone and I can certainly respect that. You know mine already, but I'll always take the opportunity to offer a link to my blog writing!

Gotta give it to Saint's Row. I can't believe it either, but nothing else last year came close to making me enjoy myself as much as Saint's Row did.
Bastion. No other game I played this year came together as perfectly as Bastion did. It was one of those few instances where for once no part felt ignored even slightly. All top-notch through and through. Incredible game.

Read my Blog! Both of you! I think you'd both be pleased!
It is fortified with the AWESOME power of SARDINES!
Portal 2. No game has this much quality on it's 8 hours single player length and 8 hour multiplayer length.
I pick quality, over quantity and in this regard nothing touches it.
Second would be Top spin 4. Best tennis game of all time.
Third: Shogun 2 total war (tie) witcher 2.

Man, I really need to play Disgaea one of these days. I'm clearly missing out on something amazing if all this talk about sardine power is any indication.
Great write-ups, by the way. Totally agree with you on Ghost Trick. Missile was the best. Without a doubt one of the best new characters of the year.

You're my NEW BEST CANINE FRIEND!! :P
Deus Ex: HR for me, with honorable mentions to Dead Space 2, Skyward Sword, Dark Souls, Arkham City, and Infamous 2.
Deus Ex just clicks for me. It offers the type of world and gives me the options I want in a game. I just started a Pacifist playthrough, and it makes you feel like such a bad ass. The boss fights are terrible, but I think it speaks volumes about the rest of the game with how easily I can forgive those segments.
Although reading threads like these makes me realize I really need to start Saints Row 3. I have it sitting there but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Deus EX for me. Probably the game i enjoyed the most this year.
It reminds me very much of MGS & Mass Effect in a way. The hub world, then going to actual levels, dialogue options from ME. The theme/story, having boss battles, stealth from MGS. One of the most unqiue games i've played in a while.

It was nothing like MGS for me. Boss though.

Yeah, well... you said I should. So I did. That's what "best canine friends" are for, right?
I'd have to say Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception is my 2011 GOTY followed by Deus Ex Human Revolution, InFamous 2 and Batman Arkham City. Gears Of War 3 and Skyrim just didn't cut it for me. I have yet to play Zelda Skyward Sword but I am looking forward to doing so soon.
I still need to get that, I've been watching it for a long time but never got down to just purchasing it. Definitely will get it sometime early this year.Bastion. My GOTY has to go to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Maybe I'm a bit bias because I'm a Nintendo fan, but after Twilight Princess I was hoping for something new and different from the Zelda series and I feel that Skyward Sword delivered that to a tee.
Though it was a hard pick, Batman: Arkham City was awesome, it's the best game that actually makes you feel like you are Batman. Portal 2 was amazing as well, with great dialogue and awesome puzzles to solve. I'm currently playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it's honestly becoming one of my favourite games ever, I've never played the other two so I've never really played a game quite like it. I still need to finish Assassin's Creed: Revelations and I haven't bought Skyrim yet -- but based on what I have played, Skyward Sword was my favourite among a ton of quality experiences.
Three games really floored me this year. Deus Ex, Skyrim and Dark Souls. Id give honorable mentions to Mortal Kombat, Disgaea 4, and Dead Space 2. Pretty much everything else felt "off" or fell short for me in some way or another. Maybe i'm tired of so many samey games, maybe i'm a grumpy old drunk but after a lot of hmming and haaing ill cast my vote to Deus Ex. Not since Splinter Cell Conviction did I feel like such a complete badass playing a game, every section gripping stealth action or detailed roleplaying within a rich story and environment. I just love the game to pieces even despite the fact that it has probably the worst boss battles ever. What game wowed you the most?GodModeEnabled
Heeeeeey!
You're playing Saints Row the Third!!
< 3
:D
It's a tie between Saints Row: The Third and AC Revelations for me. Not yet on Skyrim, since I haven't played it as much (though I still own my copy).
And yes, Saints Row: The Third DOES rule. I got all 1000 points for it, in terms of achievements, in fact. :)

The Witcher 2.
Skyrim, Saints Row: The Third, Gears of War 3 and Dead Space 2 are the rest of my top 5.
I haven't decided yet, So I'll just say it's a tie between Infamous 2, Uncharted 3 and Skyrim. Then again, I only played some 7 games that released this year, so I don't have much to pick from.

Isn't it? I love that game to death. Go anywhere you want, do anything you want. Less serious than GTA and a hell of a lot more fun than GTA for me, IMO. GTA has some great aspects to it too, don't get me wrong, but it's one of the more overhyped, overrated series to date.
That being said, I also need to include Arkham City into my three-way tie for GOTY. City was just AMAZING!
Three games really floored me this year. Deus Ex, Skyrim and Dark Souls.GodModeEnabledHaven't played Dark Souls but Deus Ex and Skyrim are my choices as well. If I had to choose one it would be Skyrim, but Deus Ex deserves to be up there since it was such a positive surprise. Skyrim was the first Bethesda game that never crashed or bugged out a quest on me, and had the best leveling system in one of their games since, well, forever. The dungeons felt engaging and interesting, the writing was better than usual for them (not that it says much but...), and they captured the Morrowind atmosphere that they lost with Oblivion. It's too bad about the PS3 version but I won't let that take away from my own personal experience.
A toss-up between Uncharted 3 and Bastion. I feel like Uncharted was basically just as good as Uncharted 2, but it was still great.
Bastion was just plain well made. I think you would be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't like it. It's very well put together.
[QUOTE="ChikaraShref"]saints row 3. no question about it. had so much FUN with that game. can't use that word very often anymore...Metamania

do you have it on steam? No. I'm not a PC gamer at all. I prefer my games on console, so I own a 360 version of SR3. :)
