Wrong forum for this game? I dunno

On topic: Star Fox 64 (or Lylat Wars) was awesome. I used to play Lylat Wars all the time.

Indeed. You'd think that Nintendo would one day get with it and just release a REAL sequel. Guess what Nintendo? We want our Starfox in the air. We want it on rails. And we want multiple different pathways through it. Screw the casual game market. Get on it........now!

If Nintendo softens the game for the masses as they did for Mario Kart, Wii are screwed. But seriously, I think they may do something similar to Command on DS. As for StarFox64, I felt it was very short and easy when compared to the original, and the music wasn't as good since Koji Kondo did not composed it. StarFox is not in Nintendo's list of priorities, otherwise they would not keep outsourcing the game to other developer as they did with Namco, Rare and Q-Games.

I do take a small issue with the claim of Star Fox Adventures as an example of Nintendo outsourcing the franchise. Technically true, yes. However, I think Rare got a lot of undue criticism about the game with respect to the Star Fox universe. A lot of people don't realize that Star Fox Adventures was simply an action adventure game they were working on called Dinosuar Planet and Nintendo forced them to shoehorn in a Star Fox theme in order to give the game more appeal.

It was never meant to be considered a Star Fox game by developers and I always thought it was unfair how people criticized Rare for making a Star Fox game that was so deviated from the true fundamentals of the series. Just throwing that out there.

But yes, Nintendo really needs to stop toying around with the franchise if they care at all about it because the more they do so, the more tarnished and weakened its reputation/appeal gets. Like you said, I guess they really don't care too much about it.

Yes, I'm all too aware of what happened there and certainly, I don't think that Rare was too happy either to have to change the original vision of the game they had in mind. Imagine the level of frustration that had to cause to the people who envisioned the game as an original IP. Also, I believe that SF has lost priority within Nintendo because it harkens back to a style of game that has always been cosidered the territory of the hardcore player; the space shooter. As a side note, remember that StarFox has been used as an "experiment" franchise to introduce new hardware innovations within the Nintendo crowd. The original was the vehicle to introduce the FX chip and SF64 included the first Rumble Pack for the N64. But after that there was no new innovations to put into the Gamecube sequels. I wonder if the Wii version (if it is relased) will have a.... *shudders* ... snap on Arwing for the Wiimote :? Oh brother!

When was starfox hardcore? You can beat it and see the ending credits/boss in 30 minutes. Its got replay value in the form of a high score challenge (which is about as casual as you get) to open up a few new stages. But thats like 2 hours for 100% completion. How is that hardcore? I know its retro/legacy and it is indeed a fun game that i'd love to see a sequel to, but how is it hardcore?

That may be your opinion, but not everyone's. To say "Screw the casual market" is offensive.

I, for one, found SFA to be a very enjoyable game. The graphics and sound were nice and I found the gameplay to be a lot of fun. I wouldn't mind seeing a next-gen StarFox game that implemented innovative styles of combat on land and air. As long as the game offers decent voice-acting this time, multiple paths and at least 20 hours of gameplay value.

Yeah, lol. Slippy is a loser. I don't know how he gets to pilot an aircraft. He's always getting shot down. I'd rather have a team 3 than a team of 4 with Slippy. You could easily get all the medals if you didn't have to worry about saving his butt.

Is having Q Games make a game considered outsourcing, given that key members there worked at Argonaut and thus played a large part of making Star Fox and Star Fox 2? Command was actually something of a new vision of Star Fox 2.
