I have an old Windows 2000 computer and I'm thinking about getting a new FPS for it. (I already own Doom, Half Life, and all Half Life expansions) So I've come up with these two, but I'm having trouble deciding. I like the old, old school charm of Dark Forces. (Nice sprite art and poor quality music has a nice charm) But I don't know if Quake II is the better quality game overall. Please note that I'm judging these based on single player only.

Quake III Arena, and also Halo CE. No joke. Halo CE: I recommened it highly if you want to play an amazing online shooter.

I don't have online, and my computer can't run those. Which one out of the two I suggested should I buy?

Quake II. Star Wars Dark Forces was a little too short; but if you want a short game, then buy it. Both are pretty good, just that Quake II is better.

"Dark Forces" was so cool... I think it depends on if you want a story to go along with your shooting... Quake games are notoriously lite on story because they're designed with multiplayer in mind, it was made in response to all of the MP games like "DOOM" and the like, but tailored specifically to it. The quake story didn't really get started (past silly reasons for tournaments after tournaments) until just a few years ago.

And viva the solo player experience... it's a dying art.

definitely Quake II

not much of a story, but for a 1997 game, the AI, level design and graphics are incredible. a must-play classic FPS in every sense.

still, Dark Forces is a great game. but of those two I'd choose Quake II

I already decided what I'm going to buy. I ordered both off Amazon.
