Hello all. I purchased Lost Planet and upon installing it I got prompted for my CD Key. Upon entering it I received a -Duplicate Key- message. I read through Steams support page. Which by the way is merely a series of context that loops you around to other varies pages of text without really offering sound help at all. I did manage to get to send an email off regarding the issue. The following is some replies to possible prevent my misfortune to others. I for one am boycotting anything associated with Steam due to this.

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello XXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

In order to investigate this issue, we must verify the purchase receipt and your ownership of the CD Key.

Please handwrite your Support Incident Reference No. 9305-CVBM-3209 on the quick reference card or sticker above the CD Key and reply with a digital photo or scan of the CD Key and the receipt for your recent purchase. Please ensure that you submit a full-color image, rather than a photocopy.

If you have any difficulty locating the CD Key on the packaging, please see the following link:
http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

Example scans:

We accept receipts issued within the last 90 days. Receipts from auction sites and used merchandise sellers will not be accepted.

After verifying your proof of ownership we will gladly assist you with this issue.

My return reply as follows.

Ok here in lies the problem. Short of needing a receipt for THIS ISSUE. Why would anyone save receipts for a game? For starters.. stores don't accept returns for games once opened. Two, why would someone save a receipt for a game that was on a discount rack for under 20 dollars anyway.
That said. I no longer have my receipt because it has been at least 6 months since I purchased the game and only recently decided to play it. ( I mainly play MMOs )
As with my original inquiry, I am receiving the duplicate CD Key message upon installing a newly opened version of the game.
I really hope that by the reply I received, that I will not get support or resolution for this issue UNLESS I have my original purchase receipt. If in fact that is the case I do not know the length I will go to flame and deminish STEAMs credibility and lackluster support.

Theirs to me.

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello XXXXXXXXXXXX,

Under the circumstances, the only way we can move the CD Key is for you to go through with the mail-in CD Key reset process and include the $10 USD reset fee.

Please mail the following materials to Steam:

1. The original printed CD Key - no copies, photos or scans of the CD Key will be accepted. Please send only the CD Key. Do not send the game box or game CDs

2. A copy of the CD Key Reset Form (https://support.steampowered.com/downloads/1673-IDGK-4694/form-cd_key_reset.pdf) completely filled out.

3. A money order or bank cashier check made out to Valve Corporation for $10.00 USD (ten dollars in United States funds) to pay the CD Key reset service charge.

Please print out the CD Key Reset Form and complete it. Specify the use of any numbers in the names or email accounts (for instance, "B0B" has the number zero in it - you would need to point this out).

Package and send the requested materials to:

CD Key Reset
Valve Corporation
PO Box 1688
Bellevue, WA 98009
USA

Your CD Key will be sent back to you via US Mail once it has been reset. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for the materials to be mailed back.

Note: You do not need to wait to receive your CD Key from us to make use of the subscription on your Steam account ? you will be sent an e-mail regarding the status of your CD Key reset request when your request is received and processed.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

And finally my return reply.

Sorry, I will not pay more money for a game that should be working as intended with what I already purchased.
Judging by many posts on forums from customers with similar issues, I simply have no choice other than to cut my losses and make sure I don't buy anything else that will support anything associated with Steam.
As was stated in previous emails. This game was newly purchased many months ago and only now have I made the attempt to play it. It makes me upset to see that my money was poorly spent. However, I will cut my losses and consider it a learning experience. I will also do everything I can to make sure others don't fall victim.

Please. Take care when purchasing games More so with games associated with Steam. Why waste your money.

Sorry for the long post but I felt I needed to warn at least one other person.

I don't understand. Lost Planet is a Capcom game that you need to register with Steam in order to play? Well, you're probably best off contacting Capcom at any rate.

I don't see how this is STEAM's fault. Did you read their return policies before buying? Do you honestly expect them to give you a new CD key if you can't prove (via receipt or another secure method) that you did purchase it rightfully?

If you can't prove you bought it, they can't do anything about it. That's the way it is. I always keep my receipts. If nothing else you could have kept it until you've made sure you don't need it any more. And besides, it's a third-party game. If you have a problem, go to Capcom. It's their product, and they should be the ones supporting it and not giving you a duplicate CD key.
