Ever played a game and the story line seems really flawed? If so list it here and explain what you don't get. We can then either agree with you, or try and explain it to you.

I am going to get the ball rolling with one of the biggest games, one that everyone knows, Gears of war. I got the special edition so it explains a little more, but I still don't understand some of the basics.

So there was a massive civil war, over oil or something, both sides have been really really weakened from the years and years of fighting, then, when they are at thier weakest the locust emerge E-day!!!!

Ok, so where the hell did they come from? Some underground village? I mean what did they eat? What were they doing down there in the first place, where did they get the guns and ammo from? It makes no sense to me at all?

Gears of War. Worst plot holes I've ever seen in a game. The game never really addressed how that bomb came on the train (or the Beserker for that matter. How did she get on a fast moving train)? The game never really addressed how Fenix's father plays into the story. Why was Marcus in prison? I know most of the plot holes will be answered in future installments, but a little clarification never hurt anything.

Sometimes its a good thing, it makes you think a bit and you can come ot your own conclusions.

I just think don't get how a much of hunaniod locusts can live under ground unseen for maybe hundreds of years and constuct thier own guns and stuff

MGS2...all talk, almost no sense.Te 3rd even played before the first, because the plot was so idiotic and full of issues that they couldn´t find a way to finish it.Well MGS 4 is about to come but I don´t have that many good hopes for it.

FFVII...the whole plot isn´t bad but full of logical issues...some people still talk until today about what really happend.

And my Favourite:Vagrant Story...there is almost no other then this one who is full of stuff that is only half-explained or just there and nobody knows why.Even the ending made only sense with a LOT of fantasy.

Gears of War is at least said to have 3 parts ,so at least you can hope it will be explained.

It's best not to think about it. If you start playing Gears of War expecting a story, you're going to be dissappointed.

The demo was awesome, but the full game is much more linear, and your actions hardly have any consequences at all.
Also, about 2/3rds of the way through, the plot totally falls apart. Badly.

I wouldn't recommend it, personally, but many people did like it.

*Edit*
Back on topic, nobody can honestly say that they understood all of Killer7 without the aid of that plot analysis - even then, a lot of that is just speculation.

well are you not contradicting yourself. mgs2 was confussing. even though it actually wasnt it explained everything in there. gears of war didnt explain anything, it didnt even bother with pretty much anything. why do you mention that gears of war is going to come in mutiple parts, so its okay that it made no sense. but mgs is coming in mutiple parts, so why is that not okay that it never made sense to you.

Hmm, yes, I always had trouble understanding MGS. Zelda Wind Waker was rather lacking in that area as well.

How old are you people? Are a part of this world? MGS2 storyline happens in every country... it's simply about a government trying to do things wrong and few people get in the way to stop their plans was that so hard to understand? I suggest you read newspapers... headlines at least.

Confusing= I didn't understand. Even though the story of mgs2 was the reason the game was so big in the first place and it's soemthing we can relate our lives to in everyway.

Storyline that doesn't make sense...almost every jrpg I've played made no sense to me.

I believe Marcus was in jail for disobeying an order from his military superiors. There was mention of that but it was a small line somewhere. They definitely didn't elaborate or make it a focus point.

Abad way to say I haven't played the game or understood a word in it is to say it sucked.

MGS2 storyline is the best in videogames history. It had many allusions and refrences to reality in a unique setting to not make it too close to the real thing or else it would be boring like moh games. This is called genius.

Calling MGS2 "genius" is like calling Tool and Radiohead "smart music". It's ham-fisted pretentious drivel, and Kojima is a hack.

Now, when you ignore the fact that MGS has always tried too hard to be taken seriously, and view it in a more cornball fashion, it does lighten the load a bit.

It's like Hideo's trying to be Tarantino or something.

You insulted my friend's favourite music! That's it I'm calling for backup! And don't insult Kojima he makes his games with love and he's a game designer before a writer so it was good enough for him to come up with a story like mgs2. Don't critisize a story by saying ham-fisted and pretentious becausethat tells me you just want to bash it. Simply tell me why you didn't like it...

Yes, well, like I did ninja edit above, I do believe that Kojima see's things a bit more light heartedly than someone like Clancy. At least the spin he's putting on things involves fat guys who shoot bees and dancing bisexual vampires instead of said terrormongering, since I probably couldn't think of a better word than that.

Even if Clancy ends up being more coherent at the end of the day, which I suppose is the point here.

What's so bad about trying to be tarantino? there's Robert Rodriguz who's even better than Tarantino now! And I think you mixed between Max Payne and Metal gear buddy. MGScinematics and storyis furthest thing from being like tarantino movie's wannabe.

Right on. Everything was going great, but the last third of the game feels like it was written by Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I can also add Killer7's"storyline"- a convoluted, pretentious, self-indulgent--and worst of all, boring--mess.

To the guy who insulted Radiohead, Tarantino, and Tool - you're officially on my black list.

Boo! Boo I say!

I personally think that Kojima is an outstanding script writer; a lot of what he says throughout the MGS series hits home really hard I think.

But each to his own I guess. If it's not your cup of tea, so be it. :P

Metal Gear Solid 2 comes to mind...

Mind you, I don't have a problem with Kojima's attempt to make the MGS series serious and morally insightful and whatnot; in fact, I loved MGS1 because of that. It's just that MGS2 was so ridiculous and out-there...

Ocarina of Time.

At the end of the game after you beat Ganon, Zelda sends you back in time before Ganondorf gains entry into the Sacred Realm, so that you can have your childhood back.

So why didn't Zelda just do that in the beginning? Wouldn't doing that cancel out the whole Ganon-ruled future?

I don't really see how it's possible to not call Tool smart music. They've got more humor and cultular references than most and their lyrics are about as deep and multilayered as they get. If the only way to have witty lyrics without being labelled "pretentious" is to be like Rammstein there's something wrong.

Same can be said about Radiohead btw.

I agree with most of you, definitely Metal Gear Solid 2.
at the end when they were like 'all that matters is what you pass on to your children.' that really made me mad, because it made absolutely no freaking sense
Brief synopsis: A group called the patriots controls everything. But in the end its exposed they've been dead since like the 1700's, but someone is stilll vying to control everything because Arsenal Gear was created to control the flow of information throughout the US.

I think it's something like Ganon's existence in the world was removed, so that it would have taken out everything he would have done. But I could be wrong about that. It's been a while since I've played it.

Though I love the games, Ecco the Dolphin has a very, very messed up plot. The first one was a little out there, what witha time-traveling, space alien fighting dolphin being the main character. Then in later installments we figure out dolphins are like super-advanced and are tasked with keeping Earth safe from intergalactic threats.

MGS2 - by the time I got towards the end of it, I justed wanted it to be over so I could trade it in on something good.

I have no desire whatsoever to play anything from that guy (Kojima) again.
Why is my favorite MGS slammed by everyone,Sure Raiden was bad but that doesnt make one of the worst games ever,IMO its story was the best in the series and the gameplay was good.syztem

You actually rate Tarantino as a director and yet you slate Kojima. Interesting.

Halo 2's plot was absolutely non-sensical. Perhaps it was just extremely poorly told, but I couldn't tell you the overarching plot to that game if my life had depended on it.

From what I've heard, though, Killer 7 has the most non-sensical plot of any game. I think Suda is one of those guys who thinks he's awesome but really he's a no-talent ***clown. Given how hard Killer 7 was panned in the gameplay department (as well as story-telling), you have to wonder why anybody gives a damn that No More Heroes is coming out...which looks even more ridiculous.

Half Life 2 is pretty high on that list. I mean, how dense are the resistance members if they are honestly surprised by a Combine attack when the last group of baddies Gordon dispatched were less than 100 feetaway from the rebel base?

And what does Gordon actually do in this story? Nothing. It's kind of sad when Breen tells you that you are causing more harm than good and I AGREE with him. But does Gordon do anything out of the story line? Hell no, Gordon smash!

I'd also throw what i've seen of Bioshock up there. Because you know, when in an abandoned, underwater city with mutants, the first thing you should do is inject random needles into your wrist.

Kojima has a team that is extraordinarily technically proficient, but a good scriptwriter he is not. I believe he stated at one point he initially wanted to become a filmmaker.....thank god that didn't come to fruition.

Anyways, would someone like to enlighten all of us confused MGS2 players as to the intricacies of that game, or provide a link that does?

The "LaLeLuLeLo"??

WTF?

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in the US): What made the lead writer turn to heavy hallucinogenic drugs 2/3rds of the way through the game?

I loved the demo and never got round to playing teh full game in the end - is it worth playing?

When i first bought and played the game i thought i was jiped but the truth is as i got in the game it's quite great. Your given choices and a great story to boot. You Might as while try the game. And for games that didn't make sense would have to be FF7 But i still think it's one of the best stories though.

I second Indigo Prophecy. Don't be fooled by the demo like me, the story is good for the first half, but it eventually turns into the stupidest, most nonsensical story I've ever seen.

*rofl* Kojima and Tarantino are really pretty similar...both can make a good show but if it comes to make storys...at least ZoE and MGS 1 worked out...Tarantino,well,none of his Movies

To those who think MGS2 had any connection to reality:No there aren´t Vampires or people that can´t be hit.The Nukes existed not only in MGS and they existed looong before the Movies about them.If you live in a small grey room like Raiden does you just don´t live, that´s all.Even James Bond is more realistic.
