Xenosaga. I think ultimately it's silly, but at least it's more inspired than Suikoden. Suikoden is okay though.

Haven't played Suidoken, but I really liked the story for Xenosaga.

It's funny actually, because they are fairly similar from one aspect. Each series has a fantastic game, a very good game, and a mediocre game. If I had to pick, I'd say Suikoden, but that may only be because I played the first 2 as well. Still going to be my recommendation, but I'd go with whichever is in shorter supply where you are.

Suikoden trilogy?.... There Five games as far as I know.... Six if you include the tactics one, which is kinda a tie in to Suikoden IV. And as for the 3 Suikodens that could be considered a trilogy.... those would be I, II, and III. IV & V take place outside of the timelines of I, II, & III, and on different parts of the same world. They, pretty much, don't reference 1-3, either. At least not to a point that it relates to their own stories.... might be a plug here and there in the dialog of Suikoden V, but not much. Suikoden IV is a prequal to them all, so there's no references of the other Suikodens, in it....

Anyway... with the Xenosaga games, you pretty much have to play all of them in order to get the most out of the series. Although....you could just skip to the last one and read all the cliffnotes provided in that game, too.... and not really miss anything storywise; but it will spoil the previous games; mostly the first one.....

So, to put it simply, Xenosaga's games are directly related to each other, Suikoden isn't.

in my first post i specifiaclly put suikoden (3-5), they are the 3 main suikoden games from the series on the ps2 not counting tactics. i consider suikoden and the xenosaga as the second best rpg group on the ps2. so i was curious which one is good.

ive played the 2 original suikoden games on the ps1 and also xenogears. so i wanted to know if which one should i get first to add to my rpg collection. which of the 2 trilogy is better. i know that suikoden 4 and xenosaga 2 are not that good from what i hear.

If you've played Suikodens 1 and 2, then I'd definitely say Suikoden. Xenosaga isn't as good as the whole Suikoden series, though it's still worthwhile.

Be aware that the Suikoden games are considered collector's items. Good luck getting them at a low price.

Xenosaga 1 and 2 are pretty cheap though Xenosaga 3 is somewhat hard to find.

Regardless... only Suikoden 1 into 2 into 3, have the option of carrying over save data, making them more of a true trilogy out of the series. As does Suikoden IV into Suikoden Tactics (but most would agree that tactics doesn't count.). While III, IV and V have almost nothing to do with each other. Suikoden V has a small reference to Suikoden III and IV, but you'd never notice it unless you were looking for a connection. As for Vicky's role of Suikoden III versus the others, I have no idea what that's all about. Jean acts pretty much the same in all of them, though.

Oh... and did I mention that IV isn't really worth playing? It's just not a fun game....

I consider all the suikoden games to be a big set, because they all connect somehow, except for Tierkreis.

So the only real Trilogy is Xenosaga. Both are amazing series though.

The first two are. 3, 4, and 5 are all easily findable at under $30 each (and I find them all regularly for less than $20).
